The beer was awful, the menu uninspiring and overall it was a miserable experience. But..we heard it had been recently taken over and lots of work had been done to the kitchen, so we decided to give it another chance. We were so glad we did! Despite being very busy, we were greeted warmly and with a smiles. The food was excellent, freshly made & cooked on the premises and at a very reasonable price. The beer is superbly kept and the overall atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We will definately be going again, and have no hesitation in recommending this. Its a beautiful pub, and with the new owners, will soon become the place to go. Superb!!

The White Hart is a basic establishment serving superb Adnams ales. Service is fast and friendly. This pub has a hidden positive. Having a large area at the side and back they allow you to sit there with your Aldeburgh Fish and Chips (frying next door) on a minor condition that you buy a pint or two. Who wouldn't anyway? Covid restrictions are in place at the moment but that doesn't stop the marvellous service. A nice hour or two.

We had just missed the lunch service but were made to feel extraordinarily welcome by Nick, the landlord, and were in no way treated like outsiders because it is very much a classic chocolate box village local and we'd come eighty miles from Cambridge to this sleepy Suffolk village. We were even given bar snacks on the house to make up (somewhat) for our disappointment at just missing lunch. But because we were treated so nicely this really was no problem at all. There is plenty of parking, both next to the pub and a bit further up the hill and as you come down the bank your first view of the pub also provides a wonderful vista of the Deben estuary. Since there are moorings along this stretch of the river, the pub is a favourite haunt of boatsmen and the pub has a charming, un pretentious air about it. Food is good (with decent Suffolk portions) and the service is friendly and timely. It is a really nice pub to hole up in on a winters night, or on a sunny afternoon in summer - although it can get very busy on bank holidays. THe only downside is that, due to it being a bit remote, you will need to bring along a designated driver. I will admit to being a little biased, since I held my wedding reception there - and everyone commented on the excellence of the venue.

But then something happened which is an absolute no-go. I had a fishcake as main and when I have taken the first bite it was so unbelievable hot that I have burnt my tongue, it was so terrible. Even now, almost 24 hours later, it still hurts. I can't drink a coffee without pain. I guess that a very inexperienced person in the kitchen heated the cake too long in a microwave. It's the only explanation for this extrem temperature, I never experienced this before (and I hope will never again).  This is the reason why there should be a ban for microwaves in kitchens. An US American would have sued them for damages. Nevertheless I rate three stars because it is a lovely inn and I hope they read it and will change something that this will never happen again.
