I have many fond memories of this terrific, ancient pub over the years. It is actually in Snape, not Saxmundham - about five miles difference. So don't be fooled by the post code. The inn is 15th century and retains so many of the old features such as cut-outs in the wall to display the wattle and daub construction of the walls. The flagstone floors are lovely as well. The Admans ale is the best in Britain, hands down, although I do not recall whether this is a "tied" house.
I remember, a few decades ago, watching the marriage of Charles and Diana on the telly in the bar and getting plastered with the locals.
This place is as traditional as it gets. The last time I was there I saw no fruit machines and I doubt any have appeared since then.
A Suffolk treasure beyond measure. read more
