Growing up as a kid, one of my favorite pastimes was going to the dump with my father. I loved being able to help him unload the trash from our 1964 Chevy Pickup truck. My father has past on now and every time I go to the dump makes me think of him and the great memories I will always cherish. I made two trips to the Pleasanton Transfer Station this week to haul cardboard and miscellaneous household trash. I love the convenience of having the dump right here in town and not having to drive very far. My co-pilot Lola loves trips to the Pleasanton Transfer Station for two reasons. One, she gets a dog biscuit from the attendant at the check-In station and two, she loves the pungent smells of fresh garbage! Pleasanton residents are asked to show their ID, otherwise you will pay a higher non-resident fee. The structure here is very organized from the line going in all the way to the indoor and outdoor dump stations. There are always associates directly traffic for safety purposes. read more

If i could leave zero stars, I would. I've lived in Pleasanton for 3 years now and the trash bill almost ALWAYS arrives in our mailbox late. I check our mail daily. The trash bill will be invoiced for say October 1st, however, we never actually receive it in the mail until either the day before it's due or the day it's due. In which I always have to go out of my way to the post office to get it post marked or drop it off at the Pleasanton Trash Office so it's not late. If I do end up going directly to the trash office to drop my bill after hours, you can tell other people are annoyed with them by how viciously they throw their bills into the drop box slot: most don't even make it into the drop box bin but on the floor in the office. Sending the trash bill out to customers last minute is a huge scam for the city to be able to tack late fees to line their pockets with extra cash on people who pay try to pay their bills on time. Inconsistent in the price for dumping. One day I went to haul out truckload of construction debris from a job-site and got charged $180. Next day with less construction debris and a different person attended us, older gentleman with brown cowboy hat and glasses was trying to charge us $450! What??? Are you out of your mind? I told him to go and fly a kite! I made a u turn and went to Tracy waste management and paid $140. Huge difference! Something should be done about the inconsistency of Pleasanton waste management facility! This has happened to us in a numerous occasion. read more

So I never write reviews, and I get that this is a trash pick up service. But whoever the lady I spoke to on the phone was, she must really hate her job or something because she was unbelievably rude. Through mid-explanation of our conversation she interrupted me, and through coming up with her own conclusion she missed the point completely. After that. I felt like I was the one driving the conversation, while she basically did nothing to guide it. There was a good 15-20 seconds of silence before she actually said something helpful. I go here fairly often dumping junk when I need to. There are two guys that I see working at the cashier stand. The one with the glasses and mustache over charges constantly. Last week I went with a mattress set and he charged me 90 dollars when i've been there in the past and they always charge me nothing for mattresses. It is as if he is trying to punish me for going there fairly often by upping his prices every time he sees me; and i'm not even a commercial customer. read more

Terrible customer service! I dread having to call their office to ask a question. Every time I call (which is maybe every other year!) I'm spoken to as if I'm interrupting something or I'm treated like a moron. I called the other day to ask about the three times per year bulk waste pick up. The first woman I spoke with put me on hold as I was attempting to ask how to schedule the pick up. The next woman I spoke with then said she didn't know what I was asking about. I then asked if there was someone else who might know how to schedule the pick up. She replies, "I'm not sure and the office that handles that is three buildings away." Seriously?! I finally spoke with someone who then begrudgingly scheduled the pick up for three weeks from now. Wow, thanks so much! read more

I like garbage? No...I like that they'll take my garbage with no questions asked beyond 'Hi, how is your day going', 'It's a beautiful day isn't it?'. Yes yes there is the obligatory question abut residency and forbidden items like flammables or toxic materials. But everyone is helpful and polite getting me in and out as quickly as possible which I appreciate because it is dirty and stinky there. I did have one issue when I visited yesterday. There was a guy out washing down his truck...well his tires and truck frame. In the middle of a drought. I vowed that if he was still there wasting water that I would stop and say something. He was gone though which is good as the water was no longer running. I really hope that they catch this water and recycle that too! read more

Not really worth writing a Yelp review for a garbage service since you don't have a choice in Pleasanton but worth mentioning they have the worst customer service, both with their drivers and the office which you cannot contact live. The driver broke open our can last week as he was shaking the hell out of it with his truck and spilled garbage in the street. I tried to get him to clean it up and he just drove away. I cleaned it up and emailed the office and called them twice letting them know the can was cracked and needed replacement, didn't even bother going into the driver breaking it. Still no replacement almost a week later and no return contact. Meanwhile we are putting trash into a can that can't hold it and will spill out again if they try to empty it. The only choice for trash pickup in the area. Operates like a true monopoly - charges lots of money, and delivers absolutely terrible service. The prices here are extremely inconsistent. I filled up my truck with tree trimmings and was charged $38. I went home, filled up the same truck with trimmings from the same tree, went back an hour later and the same guy charged me $56. It's like he charges whatever he feels like charging and there's nothing you can do to dispute it. read more

Pretty cheap for a Pleasanton resident. Currently $9.00 per cubic yard. Like everyone else, I pretty much only care about getting the garbage there and leaving. It gets a 5/5 stars for that, but what garbage place can't do that? They are just letting you in and you are doing the heavy lifting. They get a 2/5 for the lousy customer service. The guy at the front gate was a jerk to say the least. I came in with a U-Hual, he asks if it is all full, and I tell him it is. He asks me if he opens it up, will stuff fall out, and I tell him possibly. With attitude, he asks me, "Why would you do something like that?" How do you even respond to that? Several reasons that I'm sure he really doesn't care about, just get me through the gate please (i.e. cheaper, not making multiple trips, etc). He went and said several other snide remarks I didn't care for either. I honestly thought he was joking, but when he didn't smile or chuckle, my friends and I were flabbergasted. Up until this week, ​my experience​ with the Pleasanton​ Garbage Service (PGS) has been 5+ stars. However, this week I had a 20 Cubic Yard roll-off 'dumpster​' delivered on Monday. The scheduled​ pick-up was scheduled for Wednesday​, I had completely​ filled the container by Monday PM and so I asked PGS to pick up the container of Tuesday and deliver another and that container would be picked up on Friday. All went well until Wednesday​ afternoon​ when my HOA notified me of several complaints​ from my neighbors​ about​ the placement of the container. I call PGS to get the dumpster removed and although their voice recording at their telephone number says they are open until 5:00 PM when I called at 4:45 they were​ gone. I left a voice message. In this voice message, ​I indicated that my HOA had complained about the placement of the container and asked that they remove the unit as soon as possible​​. At 2:00 PM on Thursday when I called to check o the pick up the woman on the phone told me I was all set for pick on Friday. When​ I asked why they are not picked it up today, they told me it was not on the schedule. I questioned, if they had listened​ to my voice message, all she said was "well we were closed​ then." The point of this review​ is that you should not trust the PGS voice messaging​ system alway speak to a live person. read more

Ok, so it is a little funny that we're reviewing a Garbage service but it's not only a local place to take your dump, it's also the company that picks up my garbage once a week and although I don't have any complaints about that, I do have a couple about their customer service. For 3+ months I have been requesting smaller cans and every time I call the unfriendly customer service rep for the residential service tells me that I'm on a list and they're working down the list. This morning I asked if I could get and ETA, if I could find out where I stood on this list and if since I don't need the larger capacity cans if I could be charged at the rate of the smaller cans and the answer to all my questions was no. Unfriendly customer service!!!* *The non-residential customer service reps are always laughing and very friendly. read more

Now they give 3 bulky pickups a year to the residents and they pickup heavy items from home. This is really nice service

The older gentleman who works there is very nice and always gives our dog a biscuit, which she promptly buries somewhere in the truck cab. She usually likes treats, but I think going there sends her into an olfactory overload frenzy and she can't concentrate long enough to eat a biscuit. The rates are reasonable and we can get rid of lots of stuff efficiently, instead of parsing it out into the weekly garbage pickup. I like that we can recycle landscaping materials. I wish the signs were a little better, like why does one go into the shed area rather than just the open pits? Still, it's a pretty good deal, especially when you are remodeling a home and have lots of crap. read more

Stacy, who answers the phone for residential inquires, is the absolute worst. She's incredibly, rude, short and always nasty. I've had to call several times for missed service and each time she has displayed the ugliest attitude. During a random conversation, my Mom told me how awful Stacy was when she called about transferring her service to her new home, so I know it's not just me. I get it, it's garbage, it's not a hotel or a department store and I understand that we as Pleasanton residents don't get the luxury of taking our garbage business elsewhere. However, that is no excuse for the subpar customer service Stacy consistently gives. In addition, if I pay my bill I expect my garbage to be picked up. Having the truck miss us on 3 different occasions in the last 4 months, thereby forcing me to call and have to deal with the unprofessional Stacy, is ridiculous. read more

Horrible service - Actually NO SERVICE at all... For the last 2 weeks their truck has bypassed my house neglecting to pick up my blue recycling bin. I called multiple times during official business hours and either get a voice mail box that goes nowhere or a rude lady who says she will radio the truck to come back to make a pick up but never does. The dump site is great, they always give me a great price for dumping a truckload...Now the Residential Garbage pick up....HORRIBLE...the few times I've had to call them (driver dropping trash everywhere, leaving bins in middle of street, and to pay my bill) the girl working there (her name is Sandy) has been so unbelievably rude! She sounds like she absolutely hates her job and just downright hates taking to people...like its such an inconvenience to talk to you...uhh THATS YOUR JOB! What a waste. They have changed their business paper recycling service. The guy used to come to the door and grab the can then return it empty. Starting Apr 18th we are supposed to put our can out for a 5 am pickup on Mondays. How does that make sense. No one is at work at 5 am so we would need to leave our can out over the weekend. The can has a slot to put in the paper and does not latch. See the problem? It can blow open or over - yep. It can be full of rain water - yep. People can go through your paper waste - yep. Seems like a bad change. We have told them to come pick up their can and we will not be participating in recycling paper. Bad for the environment. What a waste. read more

I am reading all of these comments about poor customer service-- I have to say I have had a different experience when I visit this place with a truckload of crap (that being said... I am a younger chick with a dog..). It is disappointing to hear that you have had rude remarks made and bad attitudes. When I visit "the Dump", I always pull up to the window and as long as I am nice to them and say hello, they return the smile, check out the load in the back of my pickup, and return with a dog biscuit for my big red dog. For some reason my dog promptly delivers this biscuit to her "secret hiding spot for dump biscuits" (under the passenger seat)-- and we are off. Don't ask me why my dog doesn't like their biscuits.... ??!!??? Anyhow, I only gave them four stars because sometimes when it is busy it is sort of hectic to figure out where to go with whatever crap you have. Not everything is always labeled correctly. I'd never like to leave any negative comments but here I need to make an exception. PGS is absolutely a 'garbage' service company. I'm a property manager of a medical office building. Couple of my tenants had complained to me about their poor service quality more than couple of times each. Despite my repeated calls regarding their lack of service, they insisted that they had serviced & demanded extra charges for an extra pickup. I had no choice but to place a request for the extra service. Is there any alternative for commercial service? I guess not & that's why they can get away with their poor quality of service. read more

A review for Garbage? Well now, hold on there a moment. This is not just a dump. They have a waste transfer station where you can back your truck, or car or whatever to a big pit. Then, simply dump your stuff on the ground. They take care of the rest. It's a great way to get rid of a bunch of bulky junk. Additionally, this place has a recycling center so you can score some dough for your old soda cans and glass bottles. The place is pretty efficient and cheap. If you live in P-town, you even get a discount.... lucky dogs. read more
