We really like this place. The food is always good and the people are very nice. It's an easy place to go any night for a great meal!

Staff is always friendly but I feel like the food is not as it has been in the past. While my husband is still a big fan of the Pollo a la Crema, I've gotten several variations of the pick your own dishes and have been left wanting. The flavors just do not seem to be blending together. I've gotten enchiladas, Chile Relleno, etc. and they taste as if all the ingredients are cooked separately and put together on the plate. Today I place a to-go order of 3 dinner dishes. Which I always get with 3 or more sides of spicy salsa. Never got charge for it before. Today I got charge 8 dollars for 3 2oz side of salsas. When I try to call them and ask about why I got charge for it, they told me that the plates don't come with side of salsas, just the chips. I know sometimes you got to charge when people ask for too much. Or maybe they should had told us about the charge before hand. Little things like this can make or break a deal. I really enjoyed this place, I normally go to El Cerro Grande but my friend and I decided to give this place a try since it is right across the street. It was very clean and well decorated and the staff I came into contact with were all very nice. I was really impressed with how large their menu was, I got a fajita quesadilla and I want to return to try their "cheese steak". They have options that other Mexican places don't offer. My quesadilla was very good and automatically came with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream & guacamole on the side. My friend's burrito was HUGE and she said it was amazing. Everything seemed reasonably priced and their salsa was very good. All in all, it was a good experience and we said we would return to try more things on the menu. I highly recommend giving this place a try. It wasn't very busy or loud which was also nice. read more

Wilmington has quite a variety of Mexican / Latin restaurants throughout town (throw in a food truck or 2) and Plaza Mariachi is one that seems to hide under the radar. My family and I have dined here on a few occasions but I haven't taken the time to write a review until today. Really not sure why. Regardless...Plaza Mariachi isn't going to be the best Mexican food you'll remember in life, they still deliver tasty dishes and are consistent each and every time. FOOD: Carne Con Hongos & Margarita Pitcher: The house margarita pitcher was ordered and served on the rocks, with 2 salted glasses. For a margarita, it wasn't top shelf nor will you find award-winning tequila inside, but it wasn't bad. It quenched our thirst, complimented our meal and took some edge off...nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. Carne con Hongos was a Plaza Mariachi Menu Special that allows you to choose between chicken or steak. It is basically a smaller steak fajita portion, without peppers and adds mushrooms. The flavors and carmelization of the veggies was a direct reflection of fajitas. The steak was tender, served very hot, seasoned right and there was an abundance of it. Refried beans and rice were served as the sides. Both, were up to par with competing restaurants. Each time we have eaten at PM, the food has always been very good and consistent. Nothing fancy or gourmet...but still very good Mexican food. SCORE: 4 STARS!! SERVICE: Entering the restaurant pre-5 p.m., we were instantly greeted and seated at a booth, near no one else. There were a few patrons dining inside but were distantly spaced from other diners. The entire staff were properly masked and enforced social distancing from customers and each other. Our server (not sure if her name was introduced) was prompt, quick to refill waters and was kind throughout. Although her personality seemed to be more mild and meek during interactions, she was pleasant to have served us. Service wasn't extraordinary but it met expectations. SCORE: 4 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: If you're looking for good Mexican / Latin food, compared to your go-to place, Plaza Mariachi is a nice alternative to dine quickly, enjoy a good drink and fill your stomach with nicely prepared food. Not to kick a dead horse here but once again, it isn't the most memorable Latin food you'll taste in life, but you'll still enjoy what you order. This place is usually awesome, and today the food was still delicious, but we got over charged for the daily drink special that we were told about when seated. Today was the first time I tried their tamale which was the perfect soft texture with both chicken inside and beef/sauce on top. My favorite dish the Chile Relleno did not disappoint.. I'm all about the mole sauce! Don't get me wrong they usually do a good job here. The staff is always super nice here, and today we made it in right before the busy weekday lunch rush. We didn't realize the drinks weren't discounted on our ticket like we were told until after swiping the card. We went up to the front register and asked about the discrepancy but weren't offered a refund for the difference. I guess it was only a couple dollars but still the polite guy at the register didn't know how to make it right. Deeeelicious little find in Wilmington! We were actually on our way to another restaurant when we spotted this little place tucked in a strip mall. Adorable interior and sparkling clean we were promptly seated in a booth. My boyfriend and I started off with the Ceviche that was served on a flat hard tortilla. We quickly demolished the seafood done to perfection in juice chock full of cilantro before splitting the fajitas for two. HUGE portion of skirt steak, peppers, and onions served with sides of beans and all the fixins'. Points for havin' Cholula on the table. Don't think I didn't notice that. Add 2 drinks and a soda, and a taco and our bill still was only $45. PM is not only satisfying for the tummy but the wallet as well. We definitely will be back repeatedly. It was by sheer accident that we decided to pop in to the Plaza Mariachi, conveniently located near Staples. Nearly lunchtime and in the pouring rain, we spotted this delightful Mexican restaurant and said, what the heck! So glad we did! A tastefully decorated, clean interior with low-key Mexican music playing, we were immediately seated by a friendly staff member, given menus and settled in to a booth. After the prerequisite chips and salsa were delivered, we poured over the menu's multiple options and lunch special. I went for the Arrachera burrito (restaurant specialty--excuse the spelling!) and hubby had the #11 lunch special (2 enchiladas, 1 taco). Portion sizes were surprisingly normal and not stomach hurtingly huge. My plate had beans (not black beans but authentic), the chicken in the burrito was tender and tasted as if it was grilled over flame, the "salad" was a small collection of chopped veggies and served more as a condiment--I think called Pico (also very fresh and delicious). Patrons came in either to be seated or to pickup orders. We didn't order Margaritas (but probably should have given the nasty weather!) but will save it for next time. read more

I go there so often that the staff just smiles and shake their heads when they see me. The staff is friendly and attentive. My drink is never empty. Food is quick, delicious, and reasonably priced. They generally have really great specials going on ($4.99 lunch specials and $2 margaritas/$1.50 beer). I love this place. The tortillas are store bought the steak was over cooked and cut way to thick it only comes with a slice of avocado!!! What happened to the AUTHENTIC TACO?? No onion , no cilantro, no lime... Yeah they give you some Pico de Gallo, but not the same ;0( My son did eat all his taco, but how can you go wrong with a flour tortilla and some poor seasoned ground beef for an 8 year old. My husband had the carnitas (deep fried pork). This dish only tastes best when fresh from the (caso) . This tasted stale , almost no flavor and not fresh.. Again w/ store bought tortillas.... The only reason for the 3rd star was the service. Our waiter was great, polite and friendly. The food was just OK, not great, but fills the spot if you're hankerin' for some Mexican. I enjoyed the house salsa. The margarita is perhaps the worst version of a margarita I've ever encountered in my life. My wife refused to drink it. First off, it was green, which made us leery in the first place and it tasted like it was made with sour mix rather than the typical ingredients of a margarita. My son had a virgin mango-rita which was fine, but if you want a standard 'rita, look elsewhere. Their Mexican beer selection however is pretty darn good. Went here for lunch alone, the staff was pleasant greeted me right when i walked in the door, my server was great my drink was always full and the food taste good, meat was a little chewy for beef. the only thing i didnt like was that I was Sat right next to where they scraped the plates and it was a little warm inside the restaurant. Plaza Mariachi was a refreshing experience. For too long has El Cerro Grande had a hold on this town's Mexican fare. Unassuming store front, but don't let it fool you. Beautiful decor inside, very clean, new everything. The waitstaff was very clean and attentive as well. Food was good, about the same as El Cerro, but cheaper, and bigger portions. Great specials, Monday all day $1.99 margarita's, and sorry, but you just don't beat that. Definitely will be back, everything was very good. read more
