Atlantic special so delicious
Katie E.

Delicious! Very friendly service. Gave me plenty of time to look over menu. My Diet Coke came in a very large beer mug which was awesome. The chips and salsa were great! My meal was delicious and highly recommend the beans! The only thing that was just ok were the tortillas but that's ok the overall experience and the food were excellent. If I'm ever in the area again I will stop in again.

Plaza Azteca is a must visit when I return to my hometown. The food is always delicious and the servers friendly and prompt. Excellent margaritas are a plus! They are usually busy which is a testament to their quality food. Highly recommend!

THIS RESTAURANT IS WHY WE SEARCH OUT MOM & POP PLACES. We are headed across the country on our way back to Arizona. We searched for a small town that would be safe to stay overnight, one with low Covid numbers. We landed in Atlantic, Iowa. Among the miles and miles of corn fields is this awesome Mexican restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Plaza Azteca is doing everything right. We had the Carne Asada and the Azteca favorite #47. The homemade tortillas top it all off. Everything was excellent. It was so good we couldn't stop eating and ultimately had to roll out to the car. The food and service were excellent. The people in this quaint small town have a real gem in this restaurant. If you find yourself driving through IOWA, stop in Atlantic and check this restaurant out. It is worth the trip.

Plaza azteca has great salads and margaritas the salad comes with spinach ,beets ,tomatoes, red onions, seasonal fruit strawberries blueberries dry toasted almonds balsamic vinegar and fresh cheese. The margarita was wild berry made from scratch!

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. We had a larger group of us meet there for dinner…read morelast night for a late friends birthday after visiting his grave, and the owner and wonder staff made us feel so at home! We started off with house made shoestring onion rings, mozz sticks and fried pickles, all fantastic. All of our food was out super timely, never had to want for a refill on our drinks and they even brought us out some of the homemade oatmeal pie and cinnamon ice cream dessert, let me tell you.. If you go to Spencer's and dont get that dessert, you are missing out. The oatmeal pie was crispy, gooey and warm, the cinnamon ice cream was heavenly on top. They sell the pies to go, yes I definitely got one. We will be making Spencer's a regular stop when we go to visit our friend, Spencer! #partylikepote

I don't send orders back because they will over cook it. The steak didn't have much flavor. Service was poor. I sat at the bar and was ready for my check. The waitress walked by twice and turned her back to me so I couldn't ask her for my check. Thank god I don't come to Creston much because there's not many choices for dinner. It wasn't busy, there were only 6 tables with customers. I'll eat at Taco John's before I come back here. And I don't particularly care for Taco John's.

Absolutely the best smoked chicken I've ever had! The owner/chef uses a meat smoker on site, so…read morethere is no artificial smoke flavor here! I ordered smoked chicken tacos, and they came as hard-shell tacos with chunks of the chicken, lettuce and tomato, and shredded cheese. The chef put the barbecue sauce on the side, which was good since it was too spicy for my taste. My tacos came with a side salad, and the lettuce tasted freshly chopped. The fries my husband ordered with his meal were so piping hot we had to wait a minute to eat them (a good thing -- we knew they were fresh!). We were intrigued by the location, and the fact that it's a very small, mom-and pop operation (not a chain). Clearmont is a community of about 170 people in a rural area. The restaurant looks like a small house on the outside, and has a homey feel on the inside. The interior isn't that big -- maybe about 6 or 8 tables total - so there is a cozy feel to it. It's like being in a relative's living room while they're cooking for you. Having REAL smoked chicken - again, the best I've ever had -and freshly prepared food accompanied by genuine, friendly service from the chef and waiter totally made the drive worth it. I'd definitely recommend this place.

Before you read the novel below, I will summarize within the first couple sentences…read more We had heard about this small hole-in-the wall place and read rave reviews prior to reserving our table for a birthday celebration about a week in advance. We reserved for 4pm on a Sunday. 2 stars instead of 1 because 2 out of the 5 steaks ordered were cooked as ordered and were delicious. When we arrived it was to our surprise it was empty..no one else waiting/seated at the restaurant. It appeared to have one employee working, who happened to be the owner it turns out. We were seated and asked for drink orders and brought cans of pop, and told that Dr. pepper would have gone bad before it could get used so they didn't carry it. No big deal. Ordered a full spread of appetizers, didn't receive one item, asked about it and it was made and brought out. No big deal. Drinks were empty almost the entire time despite being the only table in the place and we were hardly checked on. Everyone ordered Rib Eye steaks except kids and one person ordered sirloin. We were told he was out of 10oz, so had to "upgrade" to a 12oz. All steaks were supposed to be medium rare. We were still the only people at the restaurant at this point...40 minutes later. The kids' items came out first, smart move. Then came my 12 oz steak which was burnt on edges, about 1/2" thick, and Well Done. Then, out came the 16oz rib eye and it was 3/4-1" thick, juicy and cooked to medium rare. As ordered. Then came my husbands steak, a 14oz cooked medium well and also about 1/2" thick the lobster tail was probably a 2oz tail and served meat side down on a leaf of lettuce...cold in the center. Then came the other 14oz that was about 3/4" thick, juicy and undercooked. Then came the birthday girl's 16oz and it was about 1/2" thick and well done. At this point, it was no longer a maybe because the 12oz was smaller it was over cooked, but a do they even know how to cook a steak? When I addressed the issue, I was told " Well, I cook on the plus side of what people order because some people say one temperature and mean another." I said "well, medium rare to me means warm red center. " He left and came back stating "I only have one steak left, so...." Just walked away. No apology, no explanation other than what was said. A table of 3 showed up about 5:30 and his attention went to them. We are business owners and know staff/supply shortages are real, we get it. BUT there is absolutely no excuse for the lack of service/explanation especially when charging over $20/$30 from a so called Wagyu bloodline that was over/under cooked 4/5 steaks. All he had to have said was, "hey, we are short staffed I am by myself, bare with me. I'm sorry it wasn't cooked to your liking, can I throw it back on or get you another/something else in its place?" But when you dismiss a complaint, offer no explanation, don't care to strike up a conversation with customers or even thank them for coming in there's a bigger issue. Especially when you shut down your Facebook page's option to leave a review after a message was sent directly to you regarding the service received is ignored. Something tells me maybe this wasn't the first time, maybe it wasn't an "off" night. Either way, reviews can still be left on other platforms and will be. We are not typically hard to please, be friendly, keep glasses filled up, bring us what we order and you receive a very generous tip and review. This was not the case here and people have a right to know what could happen during their visit especially since it seems any negative review is reported or replied to with a snarky come back.

We shared hush puppies, a fresh and flavorful salad, and a variety of oysters--everything was delicious. My husband ordered a coffee-flavored beer and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was, and I enjoyed a perfectly made lemon drop. Such a great spot to relax and refuel. We'll definitely stop by again next time we're in Omaha!

Plank has, unfortunately, announced they will be closing at the end of 2025, and while I did enjoy…read moresome of their food offerings, I can't say I'm super surprised. They definitely have/had some pretty high prices compared to other eateries in the area. I'm not sure if that is caused by cost of goods or location or what, but I think that did come into play when a lot of economic hardship is happening all over. Like I mentioned above, I DID like their food, but it definitely had to be a special occasion type of thing, due to the high prices. When we did go, I LOVED the Maryland Crab Dip. It reminded me of my favorite crab dip in the world, at the SweetWater Brewing Company in Atlanta. We also had the Green Bean Almandine that was on special last time we went and that was pretty good, but you have to be a green bean fan, for sure. I decided to try the sushi as my main dish last time, and had the Everything Crunch Maki, which consisted of cooked salmon, jalapeño, and cream cheese. It was pretty good, and had a little hint of spice to it from the jalapeño, which cut the heavy cream aspect. My husband had the Grilled Atlantic Salmon for his entree, and gave me a few bites. It was cooked well and the mushroom risotto below it was very flavorful and filling. The cute nautical ambiance and excellent service were always appreciated, so no complaints there either. I think if they had been in a different area with less expensive rent and cost of goods, I may have visited more often.
