This theatre has come a long way! I remember when I first moved to Lawrence in 2013 and back then…read morethe seats did not recline and the concession stand was limited. Now they have better recliners than most AMC's and the snacks are fully stocked! Sorry I forgot to take a picture): I bought my tickets online and I was so glad I did because there is no "ticket person" in the front anymore. Not sure if that's a thing of the past or just because we were coming to see one of the last movies of the night? We were able to walk past the concession stand straight to the lobby attendant. We were directed to the theatre showing our movie and found our seats quickly. In all honesty, I'm not a "movie person". I will always prefer to buy it at home whenever possible because I am one of those "wait, what just happened...I need to rewind" type LOL. Now whenever I come here I bring a big blanket because it's always super cold, then I end up falling asleep because the chairs are too comfortable. NOT THIS TIME! Not sure if I was really excited to see Zootopia 2 or if it was just that good, but I was completely invested and probably only blinked a few times; as I did want to miss a thing. The seating area was clean, the screen was huge and only interrupted once for camcording without a flash which I really appreciate. The only issue I have which may not be able to be fixed is how bright the lights were during the previews and the previews lasting 25-30 mins?! Like I said I don't go to the movies often and I usually arrive as the previews are ending, but previews should only last 10-15 minutes maximum. There are only 4 locations left in Kansas and 2 of them are in Wichita and the other is Topeka. There isn't one in the Kansas City area as the closest location would be St. Joseph! Regal Cinemas are diamonds in the rough and bring back the nostalgia of going to the movies in the early 2000's. In a world filled with AMC and B&B, if I get to choose I am going with REGAL(:

The staff, however, wasn't overly friendly or very interactive. The theater itself was just okay. The chairs weren't very comfortable and didn't recline, which was a bit disappointing compared to newer theaters. On the plus side, the popcorn and soda were good, and the movie played without any technical issues. The biggest downside was the bathroom--it was in rough shape, with non-working hand dryers, stall doors that didn't lock, and overall cleanliness issues. It's an okay place to watch a movie, but it's no longer the impressive, upscale location I once remember it being.

One was not working then I had issues with card reader on another .. so human interaction it was! Got there a little after 25 mins from movie start as we know previews are truly too long. Got to order in the lounge area on my side , drink and chicken fingers/fries please. My food was delivered to my seat but the bartender handed me my drink right after I placed my order. Movie... already started.. didn't miss much and it wasn't crowded in the suite. Comfy reclining chair and tray with an assistant butt, which by the way didn't work for me. Anywho.. I loved the movie experience however I had to get a refund on the food... I can't eat overcooked entrees.

An older couple that just ooze that small town/country hospitality that makes you want to come out every weekend for the featured movies. They always have current movies and the biggest summer hits. One of the most notable things about this drive in is how clean and well kept it is. It would be a real shame to see this one go the way that so many others across the country have. The speakers are loud and clear. The restrooms are exceptionally clean and well maintained with what appears to be newer fixtures. The lot is pothole free. You can just tell the owners take pride in the business. The concession area has a small, but typical movie theater menu and the prices are right in line with other theaters if not actually less expensive. (A large bucket of popcorn and large drink will cost you less than $10.) The cost of the movie is the best in the area at only $7 for adults, $1 for children 3-11, and children under 3 are free. You really can't beat the cost for a family night of entertainment. This drive in is at risk of closing due to the requirement and cost to upgrade equipment to digital and this may be their last season open. Make sure you visit and support what is a dying business across the nation. Stop by their FB group to see the various fundraising events that the fans of the theater have started in an effort to help save the drive in. https://www.facebook.com/groups/123342647687916/members/

We connected with Michael about hosting a movie night for our volunteers and staff at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, and he immediately responded to our request and scheduled a time for a site visit. From our first interaction, he was friendly, genuine, on time, and communicative without fail. He has immense knowledge about his industry & equipment and has an impressive arsenal of processes in place so that his team is ready for anything. We had to postpone our first date due to weather, and Michael was in communication with us the whole time we were working to reschedule. We even had a hiccup with our planned site the night of our rescheduled event, and he and his team pivoted their entire set-up process like it was nothing. As a person in the events industry, I cannot say enough about their unwaveringly calm demeanor and creative problem solving. The night of the event, they arrived with plenty of time to set up the screen, sound system, lights, and popcorn machine. Everything was set up on time and looked organized. The screen was bright and displayed the picture beautifully, and the sound system was top notch. Michael and his team worked tirelessly to make our event seamless so that our staff could enjoy the event as well, and they thought of every little thing. They were prepared for anything & the pinnacle of professionalism, and I cannot wait to work with them again!

It can be a bit pricey, but it's worth it as a family thing to do from time to time IMO. This theater used to feel like the premium option, complete with comfortable seats and clean for the most part. The tough part is multiple times we've been here, there's been a large police presence due to huge groups of kids taking over and messing with everybody. It's a weird feeling to get caught in that when you've got a three year old with you cosplaying as Moana, and have to explain it's time to get out quick at the end. Another time they had to evacuate a theater and adjacent Target because of a massive fight and potential shooter. Fun times, but also just "times" in America. But for the theater, they have a gigantic bucket of popcorn for around $10 that comes with free refills (good deal to split among family). The bathrooms are nice and clean, the theaters remains comfortable, and all in all it's an alright place to see a movie. I just find myself driving a little further to see them at other theaters more often than this one these days.

My wife and I had visited just a couple of times before things shutdown and were worried how they would make it through. Before last night we had seen two films in both the Grand Screen theatre and one of the "regular" theatres. In both rooms the seats are incredible with power recline and leg rests. As a special treat for our anniversary last night, my wife and I decided to try the MX4D experience (seats with motion and special effects like wind, etc.) for the new Bond movie. It was a riot! I'm not saying I would like to see every film in that format, but for that type of action film it was perfect. When we arrived last night I ran into a good friend who wasn't even there to see a movie. Apparently on Friday nights they are using their big bar and reception area for free live music performances by local artists! This beautiful old building is surrounded by scaffolding so you can't really see its architecture, but I didn't see any renovation happening outside or inside, where the walls are covered with gorgeous murals, other detailed artistic painting, and intricate hanging light fixtures. The old-but-comfortable theater-style balcony seats are covered with red velvety fabric. It's a visual feast. However, renovation inside is massively needed, especially for safety concerns. When the lights were turned out for the films it was almost pitch black, with no modern-day dim "safety lighting"...not even enough to navigate if you needed to. And right in front of each balcony seats there's flooring maybe 1' deep for your feet to rest on (not enough), which then drops precipitiously almost another 1' to the next level of floor that you need to reach to walk in or out of the row! While this creates a clear view of the stage for every row of seating, it's very dangerous. To get into the row you need to step down to the lower section to walk across but there's nothing to hold onto except the arm of the seat on the end, and I needed the help of the willing hand of the kind person seated there to feel safe. The stairs to the balcony could accommodate 3 to 4 people across, but you have to be on the outer edge to have a hand railing. One woman tripped at the top of the stairs to the balcony and slammed very hard into the backs of our seats, and her popcorn rained down everywhere, including on us. I don't remember how wide the space is between that last step and the seats, but it seems there wasn't enough, or much demarcation visible between the last step and the floor. We were all rattled by the impact, the noise, and the popcorn, but she was able to get up with help and get to her seat. I'm do remember thinking it would be easy to fall there, and I was glad I wasn't the one who did! The main level has no fixed seats, just very uncomfortable-looking wooden chairs set up in rows. That didn't seem like a good time during a 3-hour film festival! There were two pretty decent bathrooms available on the that floor, and I was told there was one on the balcony level, but I couldn't see it. However, I wouldn't have even tried to navigate from the dangerous seating set-up in the dark to get to any bathroom! The only open concession area was on the main level, in a small dark niche, and unlike modern theaters, there was no food, just beverages (including cocktails), candy and popcorn. The high prices on those were the most modern thing in the building! The eight or so short films in the festival were all human-interest stories of one or more persons and their interactions with and adventures in nature. All were inspiring and interesting, all had some scenic nature and landscape views, and I think all included water elements. But none were quite what I expected, as I had learned about the "Wild & Scenic Film Festival" at a viewing of the stunning panoramic "Wings Over Water" on the Extreme Screen in Union Station in KC a few nights before. Wild and scenic nature at its finest! This fundraiser for nature and environmental causes was well put-together and organized by volunteers, and I think very successful, because as far as I could see, the theater was packed, and many people had attended it for years! Water One was the main sponsor, joined by many other generous partners. Raffle tickets were sold for one lucky person to win a large kayak, and everyone received a free ticket for a prize raffle with a plethora of good items, including several wooden bird and bat houses, nature-and-on-the-water clothing items, quality t-shirts and water bottles, and many more worthy prizes winners could choose from. I was one of many lucky free ticket holders, and very happy with my surprise gift bag containing a soft "There is no lemonade without water" t-shirt, a WaterOne recycled plastic bottle that claimed it "kept 1,085 plastic bottles out of the environment," and a small zippered clip-on pouch full of First Aid essentials!
