We visited on a weekend and it wasn't crowded at all, which made getting through the ticketing area quick and easy--no lines. The staff, however, wasn't overly friendly or very interactive. The theater itself was just okay. The chairs weren't very comfortable and didn't recline, which was a bit disappointing compared to newer theaters. On the plus side, the popcorn and soda were good, and the movie played without any technical issues. The biggest downside was the bathroom--it was in rough shape, with non-working hand dryers, stall doors that didn't lock, and overall cleanliness issues. It's an okay place to watch a movie, but it's no longer the impressive, upscale location I once remember it being. read more

Studio 28 has changed ... not bad upgrades either. I didn't like the challenge at the kiosk. One was not working then I had issues with card reader on another .. so human interaction it was! Got there a little after 25 mins from movie start as we know previews are truly too long. Got to order in the lounge area on my side , drink and chicken fingers/fries please. My food was delivered to my seat but the bartender handed me my drink right after I placed my order. Movie... already started.. didn't miss much and it wasn't crowded in the suite. Comfy reclining chair and tray with an assistant butt, which by the way didn't work for me. Anywho.. I loved the movie experience however I had to get a refund on the food... It is what it is for a run down movie theater. It's not always clean, it's certainly never fully staffed, many things have moved towards automation. Popcorn is usually cold. Deliver to seat meals are... equivalent to like a chilis or Applebees. We do have an A list membership, so for 20$ a month, we get to watch four movies a week for free. It's a huge theatre. We prefer the seats at the Legends, but they don't offer food. The food is above average for movie theatre food and pretty well-priced. The theatre itself is massive. Get the chicken tenders. They're very good, hot, and fresh. We loved that we could order food and pre-pay for our tickets. When we got in, all we had to do was go to our seats, and our food came within 15 minutes of scanning our ticket. read more

We visited AMC Theatres 28 on May 22 for the 6:26 p.m. Lilo & Stitch live-action fan event--and honestly, I wish we had gone somewhere else. We arrived over an hour early to make the most of the event and were able to get the Stitch combo (popcorn, topper, and headband), which was one of the few positives. But the rest of the experience was disappointing. There was no signage or direction on where to pick up the fan event bracelets, and staff didn't seem to know either. When I tried to purchase the Stitch combo that was being promoted at the concession stand, I was told to go check out somewhere else--even though it was being displayed right in front of us. The whole process felt unorganized. The most frustrating part was the interaction with a concession worker. A girl at the popcorn station was extremely rude when my husband politely asked for a fresh tub. She was already pre-filling large popcorns but said, "I'm too busy," in a dismissive tone. When he calmly told her her response was unprofessional, she laughed at him. Completely unacceptable. He had to go find the shift manager himself near the registers, and thankfully she was kind and helped him directly. That level of service should've been there from the start. We were also really disappointed to find that the exclusive Stitch sipper vessels were sold out before our fan event showing even began. They were gone after the earlier 3:30 p.m. showtime, and some families walked out with multiple. There were no limits in place, which makes no sense for a "fan event." It felt really unfair to those of us attending later showings. Inside Auditorium 16, we were in seats H10-H12. Seat H11 was in terrible shape--sticky with spilled drink residue and peeling, cracked leather. It clearly hadn't been cleaned. The recliners also don't fully extend like they do at B&B Theatres, which we usually prefer for that reason alone. We had also pre-ordered food. I got the chicken nachos, and they were barely edible--hardly any chicken, and overloaded with jalapeños. I wouldn't order them again. To top it off, this wasn't an isolated issue. About a month ago, I had a nearly identical encounter with the same concession worker when I asked for a tray or a bag. She rudely told me to take whatever was left, which was just drink carriers. She clearly doesn't belong in a customer-facing role. We spent over $150 that evening, and honestly, it felt like a waste. Between the poor customer service, lack of event planning, and dirty theater conditions, we left frustrated and disappointed. Two stars only because we did get the Stitch combo and the shift manager was helpful--but we'll be returning to B&B Theatres moving forward. read more

I've lived in Olathe for 17 years and have always loved going to this theater. It has always been my favorite. I've also tried all the various theaters including the dine-in theaters and IMAX. Recently, I went to Warfare and I was sadly disappointed by many things: The water fountains didn't work and had nasty gunk in them. The bathrooms had tile falling off and faucets that didn't work. There was plumbing that was also coming out of the walls improperly. There was only one person handling tickets and refunds, so there was a completely unnecessary line. Finally, there was bird droppings literally all over the entire inside court area. The whole facility just felt like it needed some serious upgrading and repair. My son and I are going to Mission Impossible today and we specifically decided not to go to this theater. I'm bummed at how badly my favorite theater has declined. read more

I'm a amc plus member, but hadn't been to the movies for a few months until Saturday eve. The concession stand was only partially open. No ice in the soda machine and not a friendly smile in the place. Then the bathrooms. Several toilets were out of order as were the faucets and soap dispensers. And the hand dryers. No paper towels available either. 3D movie. Couldn't tell which glasses were actually clean- they had been sprayed. But not dried so they were a bit smudged and gross. I know people haven't been going to the movies as often, I'll probably give AMC another try at a different theater, but if the next one is as bad, they'll be losing this plus member. This theater has gone downhill very fast. Restrooms don't have working soap dispensers, all faucets except one are not working. I went to two different bathrooms and same story. We will never do a fork and screen movie again. The waiters are distracting. Sounds of others eating is disgusting and distracting. The added lighting for menus is distracting. The lighting is enough to be distracting but not quite enough to see the actual food, eww. The fork and screen concept is a horrible idea. People go to the theater to get away from all of these distractions. Sure, there are things in life that should be combined for convenience, but dinner and a movie is NOT among those things. I can understand wanting to try this novelty for a first time, but after experiencing it I'm surprised anyone would choose to do it a second time. This AMC location used to be one of the best in the area, but the last few times we've attended it's gone down overall. Not only do we have to pay special attention to avoid movies in the F&S theater (if only playing in F&S movies are not available as far as we are concerned), but also the overall appearance/cleanliness/upkeep of the entire place has gone downhill. read more

I saw Dune PT 2 in the Dolby Cinema (16) and it was a solid experience. Unfortunately, there were some very noticeable screen defects in the upper portion of the screen that took away from the immersion that I had hoped to experience by choosing this theater over my local theater. There were some vertical lines that were very distracting in the brighter scenes, and what looked like a dent (maybe basketball sized) further to the right near the top of the screen. The audio was great though. The overall theater experience was decent otherwise. I might visit again but I will avoid the Dolby Cinema (16) and maybe check out the IMAX next time. read more

9/3/22 AMC really went downhill. I remembered the theaters being well kept and taken care of, but that was prior to the pandemic. I know movie theaters struggled after the pandemic, but I went February 18th 2022 and AMC was not in this rough of shape. This AMC 28 had plenty of workers when I was there this visit. Every area had trash overflowing onto the floor from the bins. The restrooms were the worst part by far, completely trashed with litter. There was not a single stall that was clean, several of them were locked because they had diarrhea in the toilets. I didn't see any female workers, so maybe there was no one to clean the restrooms. I wouldn't recommend going on a weekend because it was very overcrowded or at nighttime because it was sketchy. It felt very unsafe and I will not be going back any time soon. read more

One of the first movie theaters in the Kansas City area to convert to a dine-in format, the largest number of screens in the Johnson County area, and a staple for movie goers in Olathe since forever (especially since the closing of the Great Mall). With IMAX, Dine-in, a full bar, snacks and everything you expect from a theater, it's a go to choice. However, some things are missing that make the movie experience somewhat diminished for me. Not all the seating is updated to the more comfortable recliners that most theaters are adopting. I found myself in the IMAX theater a couple times over the last month surprised that I could not lean back into an immersive experience that I've grown used to from B&B, for instance. And I for one am super disappointed that, in this day and age, the selection of food is still so completely focused on carbs and sugar. I get that people eat that stuff up like they are programmed to consume it, and my opinion may not be popular. However, I and most folks I go out to movies with are looking for healthy foods even at traditional carb loading destinations like a movie theater. Take a hint and use your kitchen to make up some better choices. read more

It's been a bit since I posted my original review, so I thought I'd write an quick update. The motion picture experience has changed over the years and this AMC has tried to keep up. While its efforts look to have been done in good faith, some of it has come off a little clunky. Here's what I mean: The ticketing experience has switched online. That's fine and mostly convenient, but it's a bit of a hassle if you decide to go at the last minute or if you don't want to pay convenience fees. During a recent visit, my friends and I spontaneously thought we'd just walk up and get tickets to an evening flick. Unfortunately only one ticket window was open and even though there wasn't a large number of people in line, it still took about ten minutes to get our tickets. Yes, I admit, we could have bought them through the app. At the same time, I wish the theater had an extra window or two open to help with walk ups. I will note that there was a machine next to the box office where you could self buy tickets, but it was out of order. Staying on subject with online ticket sales, most of the theaters have switched from general admission to reserved seating. I'm a big fan because it's always nice to pick your seats. It's also nice to see what's been sold and then decide whether to buy seats or look at another showing. The concession area has been renovated from a counter where an employee takes your order to a cafeteria-style ala carte area where you grab your snacks to go and then pay at a cash register. I get it. Shopping habits have changed, customers like to browse at their own speed, etc.... It's a good idea on paper however I did have some issues. First, even through the concession inventory is monitored, some of it will sit for a while and lose its freshness. Then, when you're ready to check out, there's a normal check out line and an AMC Awards check out line, but they share cash registers. So, I got in line to pay, but then had to wait while AMC Awards members basically cut in front of me. Everything worked out in the end, but this is something that probably should be revisited. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, once I was in the theater, I enjoyed my visit. State of the art screens and sound. Comfortable seats with easy sight lines. I could do without some of the pre-show commercials, but I understand their purpose. If AMC can smooth out some of its pre-show functions then it could be on to something. Currently though, as of this writing, it's just okay. read more

WOW. This place is a theater maze. It should come with a GPS. I spent more time navigating the concession area than I did in the movie itself. It is a great theater just a bit overwhelming. Normally this is not my theater of choice. However, I got a free movie pass for this theater so that is how I ended up here. I had not been here since it got pimped up and, boy, did it get the star treatment. The concessions are DIY and the popcorn is already put into bags and containers so you just grab and go. No problem but it did make me wonder how long it had been sitting out. You put on your own butter and stuff like that. It has a freestyle beverage station and I love those. Basically you get or make your concessions and then check out. I happened to be here on a very busy night which surprised me because it was a Wednesday. What gives with that, right? There tons of kids running around and it made it difficult to navigate and get to your station. I managed to get out of the concession station without harming any adults or children or, better yet, myself. It was quite the zoo. Thankfully, whenever I had questions, there was someone on staff to help me. The actual theater was smallish. Very small and packed. I am not sure what happened but the acoustics were bad in the theater I was attending. The sound just seemed a bit muffled. It was pleasant enough and the seats were comfy. You did not feel squished into a seat even with a packed house. The staff seemed very nice and helpful. Once I navigated the concession area successfully, I gained some confidence. Ha. The parking was plentiful and I had no problem getting a parking place. It was a nice venue and I would not mind coming back again. This time I am taking my GPS, though. read more

This is the absolute WORST amc I've ever seen. Upon entering the theater there is only TWO ticket takers so you spend a good amount of time waiting to get in. The concessions are impossible and very chaotic. The soda machines were out of ice and the straws were located on the opposite side of the soda machine meaning you have to cross 3-4 lines of ppl just to get a straw. Secondly the registers aren't set up that easily allows people to Flow through ! The floor was completely disgusting and covered in crumbs. Lastly the seats aren't the reclining seats and they are uncomfortable- will NOT be returning to this terrible AMC ever again! read more

I drove all the way out to this theater from Lawrence to enjoy the Dolby Cinema for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and they have the volume turned down so low you get NOTHING out of it. I'll just watch at home on my own system, it will be better. This used to be an awesome experience, now it's worse than what I have at home. Never doing this again. My guess is the theater cheaped out on sound proofing the walls and can't have the volume very loud or they'll cause issues with the theater next door. Turning their mistake into ours. read more

I've always enjoyed the AMC in Olathe, and it's been a while since I've been to a movie (due to all the COVID related restrictions). I'm very aware of the challenges with supply chain and keep seeing impacts of lack of staff, but it really hit home when I went to a movie over the weekend. We went to see the Matrix in a dine-in theatre. There were no servers, so we had to order at concession. When we got there, there were basically no food options other than candy or popcorn. They were out of pizza, nachos, pretzels, etc. When we collected some food and checked out, the counter was broken in several places and in desperate need of either replacing or painting. The theatre itself was okay, but the chairs could use some maintenance, there were no trash cans directly in the theatre, and the bathroom was dirty and out of towels. I think it's going to be a while before we go back. I'll just rent online and watch from my home. Hopefully things start to improve soon. read more

First time here for a limited showing. It was extremely dead, but crawling with staff. Since I'd never been here I didn't know if ordering drinks and snacks were different than other AMCs and no one was at the food registers. Since there were some workers around I asked a middle aged blonde woman with dark rimmed glasses what to do to get drinks. She looked at me like I was bothering and annoying her, was exceptionally rude while telling me to just get a drink, theyre right there. I wasn't sure if you had to order them separately since its a dine-in, my first visit, and there hadn't been anyone at the register til I was done getting my drink. She was the first worker I saw past the guy who scanned my tickets. I've genuinely never been spoken to like that by anyone over a small, easy question-- better yet someone you'd think would have customer service training. After I paid, I looked back and all she was doing was talking to other workers. The seats weren't very comfortable, the least comfortable I've been in at an AMC and I dont usually go to the remodeled ones, you also can't lift up the arm rests. Came to watch movie with family for Christmas and movie cut out towards the end when the movie was getting good. Staff said they aware but 30 minutes of waiting led to nothing being done. Understand that it's a Christmas staff and things happen but "magic of the movies" was killed. They were kind enough to refund us ticket but frustrating overall for a movie my family had been looking forward to for a long time. read more
