Beautiful campground... very friendly and professional service ... peaceful and relaxing campground ...many activities and shopping within a 30 minute radius

This is one of Wisconsin's best kept secrets. I've been coming to this campground for the last 20 years. This is truly a family friendly campground. Just south of town, nestled between a cemetery and a golf course along the banks of the Rock River, is the Playful Goose Campground. The amenities include 165 acres of seasonal tent and RV sites as well as permanent parkland sites. The main building which is the office and serves as a bait and tackle shop also features an indoor swimming pool and a game room with pool tables and arcade machines. There is an on site laundry and coin operated showers. The grounds are fairly well kept. The gravel road that enters the campground can get a little rough, but I saw them grading it yesterday. There is a play ground for the kiddos and goats and chickens in a mini corral. I'm not sure if this is a petting zoo. You can bird watch along the banks of the river. Geese, heron, and egrets nest along the banks and are a regular sight. Fishing is good here also. I saw a man pull a northern pike out while I was grilling dinner. They have several boats and canoes for rent as well as golf carts to get around the campground with. What keeps this place from a 5 star rating is that like the owner, it's showing it's age. There was a mini golf course and shuffle board at one time. Both have not been kept up and are no longer functional. Every car this guy owned from 1955 is somewhere on the campground as well as a storage lot with old campers and RVs that are no longer useable. The bath/shower rooms are clean but not spotless. If you can overlook those eye sores you have truly discovered a hidden gem. They run a special, 7 days of camping and you get a free day. They also give you a $2.00 coupon for Leroy Meats (see the review) upon check in. If you're looking for a nice campground in the Midwest, this is about the best.

I usually book state park campsites and this was my first time booking a privately owned campsite. I'd call this campground "vintage " - as in hadn't been updated, or cleaned, since the early 80s - at best. While our campsite by the river was scenic it was overly priced ($27/night per tent) and the "amenities didn't real outweigh the cost. You pay extra for: wood (which you are required to buy onsite), showers (they cost quarters to run), kayaks/paddle boats, and more. I wouldn't call the place clean or well kept by any means (at least keep the mold and hair cleaned up in the ladies showers). Next time I'm sticking to state & national parks.

Wood $27 for this

The people here are amazing, super kind and helpful, and the campground is one of my favorites in the state. Will be coming back!

Staff is incredibly rude and unprofessional. Screamed at our group over a simple misunderstanding. Will not return.

Extreamly overpriced. They charge by the tent not the site. The staff could best be discribed as rude

We had a group of 26 and 7 people fell. Also saw numerous other people fall. Staff was not very welcoming. Kids and adults loved the blow-up's in the pond. Many barking dogs all day and night!

We rented two of the cabins and the amount of space inside was perfect for this family of 4! Each kid got their own loft, we had a bed with wonderful space. The number of things to do while there was perfect for the ADHD kids and the ability to sit and watch them do ALL THE THINGS was perfect for this tired momma! We played mini-golf at 6:45 am, horseshoes at 6:54 am, and playground at 7 am to just start all over again (multiple times)! Definitely plan your drinking schedule with the fact that the bathroom is not in the cabin but still close! We had s'mores on the fire pit and two nights of BBQ! We even swam in the lake and the kids LOVED the inflatables (even the 40-year-old fat dudes got out there). The owners were incredible and friendly. Really can see that they care and have built a wonderful community. We will be back!

Perfect for a camper that enjoys staying in camp and…read moredoesn't need a lot of amenities. **Boy Scouts may be available to deliver wood, but there's also wood sold nearby. Noting here, there's not much by way of hiking paths, mud lake is not swimmable, and they don't offer recycling collection. -There is a great bike trail onsite -Mud Lake (also onsite) seems to be great for fishing and tooling around in a small boat -It's quiet and campers seem to be respectful of one another. -The old Savannah Oak trees are beautiful and offer just enough shade to many (but not all) of the campsites. -This campground is not maintained on a daily basis, so the grass was a little overgrown and the pit toilets could have been slightly cleaner. There are also no garbage cans in the pits, but a dumpster in the parking lot. This campground is made for a more rustic camper, as it has less amenities than your typical state park campground. Noting here, these are all walk-in sites with the exception of the group site. There are pit toilets and a well for water, but no other facilities.

Perfect for when you want to get outside for a night or two but don't want to drive hours and hours…read moreto get away from it all! Only about 30 minutes from Madison this campground offers a pretty tranquil camping experience given it's location and especially given that it's a State campground. No RV's allowed and you have to trek in all your gear 50-100 yards from the parking lot. Not a huge deal, but apparently inconvenient enough that a lot of people take a pass (fiiiine by me!). I think it's great not having any cars rumble past your campsite at night. All I heard was a rooster and a cow (this isn't exactly the wilderness, people, more like farmland). Set in a grove of old stately oak trees, each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. Some are definitely on the sunny side, so feel free to call up the ranger to make sure you end up where you want to. There are bathrooms (well, porto-potties) and well water near the parking lot. You will not be finding any firewood on your own, you'll need to buy it from somewhere local. The gas station sells bundles for $5 but an even better deal is the boy scout troop who sells daily at the campsite. Their number is posted upon your entry so just give them a call to find out what time they're coming by. The campground was only partially full when I was there one August weekend and the ranger said that it usually only fills up (or close to it) on holiday weekends or when there is an event at some nearby concert venue. BOTTOM LINE: I hesitated to even write this review because I don't want this secret jewel to become overrun. Good stuff!!

This is the most perfect campground we have ever stayed at in our lives…read more Think Dirty Dancing and the Kellerman Resort but in the middle of beautifully green and lush Wisconsin. The owners have put so many very thoughtful touches and it is crystal clear that they are looking to help your family build a lifetime of wonderful memories here. So many amenities I hardly know where to begin... The road into their expansive property is perfect and looks brand new. You pass by the 3 beach volleyball courts, the horseshoe pits, you pass by the stocked fishing pond, the heated pool, pavilion, fully stocked store and main office complete with snack bar including pizza, ice and firewood. Don't forget to check out the massive inground trampoline or all of the various inflatable water toys/attraction (slides, bounce house, merry go round, etc). Canoe, paddleboards, and kayaks available. They even have golf carts available for rental. Clean bathrooms and showers (coin operated showers), multiple dump stations, 300 rv sites with 30amp hook up's with water. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring and plenty of room to offer pull through service. A few cabins are available for rent but I imagine those book out quite some time in advance. Laundry facilities and WiFi. Now, let's be realistic people. This campground is hundreds of acres out in the middle of nowhere. You're not going to be streaming ANYTHING. But then again, you're not out at a family campground to be surfing. There's no cell reception on any carrier so everyone is jamming their measly 3bps WiFi system. You're just going to be able to squeak out the occasional text or email. Just enough to check in on those you love and vice versa. If you need something more than get yourself a WeBoost or similar product and stop complaining. This place is immaculately maintained and it is clear to see why so many people come back year after year. If we lived in Wisconsin our family would book this place long-term for the whole season. It's that good. A special thanks to Taylor who made the after hours check in and set up a breeze and who's great attitude was such a pleasure to see at various times during our stay.

The employees all resemble carnival employees and they all live there in their campers using up prime camp sites? Didn't see any of the previous employees that were all local to the area? Pool wasn't working? was told the heater wasn't working even though the previous owners put a new one in last year after Labor Day? Store hours have been reduced greatly; all pricing has increased. Speed limit is 5 mph, and their own employees are some of the biggest offenders of breaking that. Grass wasn't cut before the weekend started and dog poop throughout our site before we even arrived? I am on the understanding the new owner has other campgrounds? I hope my complaint is just a one off and not consistent throughout?
