And now with a lake home only a few minutes away, while I don't need to visit, I still do at times just to take in the memories. It checks off all the boxes-water, beach, walking trails, camping, concessions, and fishing spots. The Kettle Moraine started with the purchase of land surrounding the lake and it does a great job representing. I enjoy seeing the different geological formations and landscapes (marshes, pine, deciduous). A beautiful space.

This is a beautiful land preserve located just outside of Fredonia Wi. The Ozaukee Washington land…read moretrust oversees this preserve. Parking is limited with just two spots right off of clover valley road next to the trail head sign but you can park along the side of the road. The trail to the top of the hill leads you to a old house remains. Just the foundation remains but it is a really interesting find. There is also the remains of a larger building, possibly a barn at one time. The structure does have some graffiti And we seem to find beer bottles there every time we visit. A hot spot for the local teenagers I'm sure. The trail leads you along a huge grassland area where you can easily spot turkey vultures, Hawks and other large birds hunting for small game. Once you reach the end of the grassland area the trail splits and you can either go up to your left or down to your right. If you choose the upward trail you will hike up and down a trail that winds down from the hilltop into the forest, finishing at the plank walk and looping back to the opposite trail. There is a bench area along this trail. If you choose the downward trail it will take you directly to a plank walk down to Huiras lake. There is a small Pier that goes out onto the lake so you can observe the otters that swim there, or watch the ducks. I am unsure how the fishing is at this lake. There is no boat access from the land preserve. This is a nice place to walk your dog, or to take your family on a nature walk. I have brought my cub scouts here to do bird counts, it's not well traveled and because it isn't you can really enjoy the solitude while there.

This 34 mile trail on a crushed limestone base is an ideal place to walk and to bike. It is a…read morestate trail but it does not require a fee. Given it is a former railway the path is relatively flat. In some sections it is shared by horses or there is a parallel horse trails. It appears that in winter they allow ATVs on this trail. There are a number of parking areas along the bike path that make for easy access. One of the best in the southern section is the Juneau town park which has some very nice bathrooms and a small shelter with picnic tables. Overall a nice trail.

I…read morewent for the first time recently because I had a German friend visiting who's as much of a shutterbug as I am, and we were looking for some nice natural settings as a new subject. The drive through the northern tip has well-dispersed pull-offs with nice descriptions of the types of wildlife potentially visible in that area, and a one- to two-mile loop walk at the tip of the drive. We almost gave up on seeing or identifying any birds.... and then we hit the marshes on the way out. We found egrets, herons, geese, and cranes as willing subjects in a beautiful sunset setting. I've uploaded a few of the shots I took that evening, and I'm sure I'll be headed back to see what else I can see.

I'm at the Legion every month and I never knew this beautiful garden was so close. All the times I arrived early and sat in the car! Oy vey! This is an amazing garden maintained by volunteers. I walked it with my friend and my service dog. So much beauty in one place put me in a peaceful spirit for the evening. There are memorial rocks and a few sculptures but the most gorgeous flora you've ever seen. I just wanted to sit on a bench and think of an the beautiful things I've encountered in life. The place is a mood shifter!!! Drop in and enjoy a moment (or two) of peace!

Perennials and annuals dot the path and are maintained by volunteers, helping the community slow down and connect through gardening. Remembrance stones line the path and grounds and support the funding of the garden. A low bench in the garden and benches outside of the garden encourage slowed down reflection. A large impressive dragonfly sculpture serves as a nice focal point. Nearby parking makes the garden easily accessible. The Labyrinth Garden Earth Sculpture is a destination in West Bend!

Which for some reason is hard to find around here…read more Satisfies the winter clay busting itch. 18$ for 13 stations. 10$ for a golf cart, which really isn't needed, but on damp days it's nice to have the option. Or for folks that might have a harder time getting around. Can get muddy at times. Not too hilly. My only gripe if I had to have one is their website says "automated" which to me implies no human interaction is required to launch the clays. I was expecting voice activated launchers or some other means besides "someone has to push the buttons". Which is fine. Not sure how they'd get something like that into the middle of nowhere. Just doesn't really seem automated. I guess it is in the sense I don't have to physically throw the clay myself... And one more last little gripe is the ammo is about 10% more than I'd want to pay, and the cocktails are super light on the booze. So much so you're way better off having a beer or two after you shoot, than looking for any kind of mixed drink. So the solution is: if you're gonna come more than a few times get the card to make it 13$ a round. Bring your own ammo unless you want to support the club more. Rent the cart on crap days. And never order a cocktail. That makes for a perfect time. Excited to go back.
