Really beautiful and historic park. Couldn't be prettier, even with the challenges of early spring in Wisconsin. The park itself lies on both sides of a stream that passes under this historic wooden bridge. The two sides of the park are connected by a pedestrian bridge. One side of the park only has a few picnic tables, but the primary side has parking, port-o-potties, benches, tables and play area for kids. There is also a soon to be finished covered pavilion that can be used for parties etc. The Wooden Bridge, which is now almost 150 years old is really cool. It is preserved really well and I would imagine a great place for wedding/graduation pictures. On the website for this park there is a phone number. I would imagine this is how you reserve the pavilion.

The last official covered bridge in the state of Wisconsin! A suburb spot to take photos whether it is for fun, graduation, engagement, wedding, etc. My husband and I had our engagement photos taken here one COLD and rainy early October day back in 2018 after I had discovered this little gem of a park. Dog-friendly (just pick up the poo! don't be that person!!), many picnic benches or bring your own blankets for a picnic. Great spot to go "mucking around" in the river and good fishing - the eastern side at the bed is the best as there is a deep pool where northern pike hang out, have also caught yellow perch. It would be a great place for kids to learn how to fish. Personally, I prefer bobber fishing so I can relax in the sunshine. It really is a little gem of a park. It is not very large, so not somewhere to go hiking; however, it is a great place to relax and have a picnic!

Oh the historical beauty of it all... There is just something about a covered bridge. They are in movies and novels and everyone's memories. The Covered Bridge Park offers natural beauty at it's finest. Grassy areas, big beautiful trees and even a babbling brook. The area feels so serene. Then the famous covered bridge adds to it's grace. The bridge is remarkable so it is a destination spot for many people celebrating special occasions or events in their lives. It's the perfect backdrop for a photo shoot to capture special moments. The day we were there, we saw a couple taking photos with their motorcycles celebrating their anniversary. It was very sweet to see. We walked across the bridge taking in it's historical beauty. The wooden planks showed all the memories hidden inside. Each step reminded me of all the many people that walked through that bridge before me. It was a perfect afternoon to take in the beauty that was all around us and I cannot wait to visit again.

(Milwaukee Falls was also the birthplace of Paramount Records.) The park offers a large pavillion that can be rented, an open air octagon picnic shelter, an archery range, a horseshoe pitch, a 9-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball, fishing and a canoe launch on the Milwaukee River. Or, you can just relax and listen to the soothing sounds of the rapids that were once known as Milwaukee Falls. The site was the location of a large limestone operation in the late 19th Century. The Milwaukee Falls Lime Company was incorporated in 1890 and produced lime here until about 1920. At one time, there were five lime kilns here, at a time when Wisconsin was third in national lime production. On the southern end of the park is the open area left by the quarrying operation. A branch railroad line brought fuel in and hauled lime out, the abutments of a long-abandoned railroad bridge remain on the rivers's edge. Why kilns? Silurian dolomite, or limestone, is found in great abundance in eastern Wisconsin. It is comprised of calcium, magnesium, carbon and oxygen. When heated to temperatures approaching 2,000º the limestone breaks down, releasing carbon dioxide and the remaining powder, lime, was used for construction (plaster and mortar) and for whitewash. Farmers used it for soil conditioning and it was used in the tanning process by leather tanneries. In time, other chemicals became available and lime fell out of favor. Both pastoral and historical in one spot, Lime Kiln Park is a great place to play, admire history, or just listen to the relaxing sound of the Milwaukee Rapids. (Other extant lime kilns in the area include Lime Kiln Park in Menomonee Falls, Hadfield Lime Company in Waukesha on inaccessible private property, and Trimborn Farms in Greenfield.)

Garrison's Glen - A lovely tribute and gesture to a young man who passed away…read more Location 2231 Pioneer Road - Mequon, WI 53092 Size 22 Acres Description This is a nice park if you are looking for a short walk. But even though it's small, treasures for the eyes await visitors. The paths are well maintained grass paths. They keep them mowed very well. They have bird houses within in the glen erected. There can be quite a bit of activity from birds so it's a great place to bird watch if that's your jam, or jelly. Tons of trees, most I cannot identify because I've never bothered to learn. But! It is an excellent mix of old trees and newer trees. There are some absolutely stunning trees to see. I took pictures but it doesn't do it justice. This property has maybe 4-5 paths you can take which often overlap one another. It's very peaceful here. There is a large bog? Swamp? Marsh? Wetland? Whatever the proper nomenclature is. There is a big really, really , really wet area in the middle with lots of wetland plants. Points of Interest There is a multitude of plant life. Asters, Wild Cucumber, Jewelweed, False Sunflowers, Horsetail, Golden Alexander, Dogwood with some of the most vibrant red branches I have even seen and grapes. Like, grapes taking over the place. It's Planet of the grapes there. The birds! So many. Be Aware It is always wet. Always. There's a swamp in the middle so be prepared for soggy, muddy ground. There are occasionally branches hanging down in the middle of the walking paths so keep your eyes sharp! Mosquitos - Holy f-ing hell mosquitos. They are more ferocious than strippers in Dothan Alabama. The Entry/Exit way. It is seriously step and there is some erosion from where the asphalt meets the gravel and if you go over it too fast it will cause your car to hit the pavement HARD. Dog Friendly? Yes- As long as you keep them on the leash and clean up after them. They even provide a trash bin at the entrance so you can throw the brown sausages away and not even have to worry about taking them home in your car to dispose. Vixen Says There were no gila monsters, so that gets a paw up. Lots of good sniffs, another paw awarded. Delicious  grass so another paw. Three paws and a bark!
