I alternate between here and SoBol, but honestly I prefer here (Playa) so much more. The menu is longer with more options to mix and match and I like their default options more. SoBol has a better granola mix (granola, nuts, pumpkin seeds), but Playa has more fruit options. Playa also pours less honey than SoBol does which is always a plus for me because it's easier to ask for extra honey rather than remove it once it's poured. I usually stick with the Tropical bowl; occasionally you can tell they removed the pineapple recently from the freezer, but it's appreciated on hot days. Super fast service, and I love the extensive menu. I really appreciate all the options, as well as the mango based summer menu. I got great customer service- and like I said, I got my order quickly. Each bowl or smoothie is made custom to order, and the staff can help you pick and choose what you want, because the options are a little overwhelming, especially if you, like me, aren't up to date with all the trendy ingredients and such. I discovered Playa Bowls on a trip to the shore at Manasquan, NJ and I was immediately hooked. I am personally a huge fan of coconut so finding a bowl place that doesn't only offer açaí is great. I love that you can customize any standard bowl or create your own. I love the coco craze bowl but I prefer it without the pineapple so I will order it without OR I can order a coco bowl and add mango. I asked them for a little bit of extra Nutella on my bowl and told me they can't and I have to pay an extra dollar for it. So I did. The Nutella bowl is $13.01, which is pretty already overpriced in my opinion. I went back and paid an extra dollar with my total coming out to 14.01. I tried this place out while visiting my brother in Philly. The interior of this place was very colorful and welcoming, though a bit cramped. We took our bowls to go as there is limited seating. I ordered a Lola bowl and added "Bee pollen" which I had never tried before or even seen this as an option to add to my bowl anywhere before. The Bee pollen was pretty interesting, the texture was kinda crunchy and the flavor pops into your mouth. Basics it tastes like honey just in crunchy form which I actually enjoyed. They also gave us these adorable stickers which I have yet to find a place for. Overall, I recommend trying out this unique topping of bee pollen at this place! read more

I purchased the Electric Mermaid which has a Pitaya base, topped with pineapples, mangoes, kiwi, granola, honey, and shaved coconut. I FINALLY tried Playa bowls! Wow it was delicious. I got the Pura Vida bowl and added coconut flakes. They did not skimp on the fruit toppings, the blueberries were huge, plump, and ripe, and the coconut flakes were also huge and fresh. I was expecting coconut flakes these are more like larger coconut shavings which I appreciated the high-quality. I wish I would've added sliced bananas on my bowl also as an açai bowl in my opinion is not complete without the bananas, so I overlooked this on my order. I'll be adding that next time. The bowl was delicious and hearty. At $12 I wish it was a tad bigger, but I would rather have good quality product and that is exactly what you're getting here. Also anyone that eats açai bowls on a regular basis knows these are not cheap and the prices here are in line with any other place you would expect. One of the best things about Playa Bowls is all the different options you can get in your bowl. You don't just have to get an açai base, they have a green kale base, a coconut base, a pitaya base, and others. I will definitely be back soon to try them all!! Absolutely delicious. My partner and I ordered Playa Bowls the other day via a food delivery app. The estimated wait time was listed to be about 60 minutes, but it arrived in 45 minutes, which was nice! In terms of the bowl itself, I got the nutella bowl with a half acai, half pitaya base. The bowl came piled high with very fresh strawberries, bananas, and coconut flakes. There was also plenty of crunchy granola and a thick drizzle of nutella. So indulgent and filling! Overall, it was on the sweeter side. I think the acai part didn't taste that great to me... I can't describe it, but something about the flavor was a little off. I wish I had gotten just pitaya, which had a brighter taste to it. Acai bowls from chain restaurants like Playa Bowls are not really something I eat to be healthy; it's more of an indulgent dessert. My family absolutely adores Playa Bowls! We first had them in Rehoboth a few years back and had no idea they were a chain. The place is so beachy & adorable!! It's Pineapple Land, or so the glowing sign says! These are definitely the best acai bowls we've ever had, and we've had our fair share! I'm super picky about having an equal amount of base, granola, and toppings in ah bite, and that is achieved here every single time! Playa Bowls is especially awesome because you can choose your base whether that be acai, pitaya, coconut, kale, or more! The best part though, you can split the bowls! For instance, you can do half kale, half acai or half pitaya, half coconut, etc! So fun! I favor the kale bowls (to split with my pup)! Lola is a favorite for me. It has honey, pineapple chunks, coconut, & mango! It's such a tropical treat that takes me to an island somewhere. It's perfect for summer! My youngest goes for the Nutella acai every single time while my eldest tries a new bowl each visit! That's how many choices there are! It's insane! I have also had wellness shots, savory rice bowls smoothies, and the Almond Joy chia parfait, which is delish! You can't go wrong with anything here!! Delicious and beautiful bowls! Ordered a Goji Pitaya and a Nutelloco Coconut Bowl for breakfast. There is a comments section when ordering online to include anything you may want to tell them (like a fruit allergy). I was able to tell them about my banana allergy for the Coconut Bowl. They were able to replace banana worn the fruits already in the bowl. The bowls are so fresh, healthy, and are absolutely stunning. My only problem here was they put an excessive amount of granola compared to other açaí bowl places I've been too. Makes you feel like it's filled so they use less fruit and I don't like that. For the future, I'm sure you could write in the comments section for light granola but for a first time order it's excessive and off putting. read more

Went in with a friend after passing many times. Went to the cashier, no line, and the young woman standing there was talking on her phone. Stood there for several minutes until she acknowledged I existed. She then complained that she was "not supposed to be at the regsiter but I'mma help you anyway," and then proceeded to continue messing around on her phone for several more minutes while ignoring us. Once we finally ordered, it took more than 15 minutes for our two smoothies to be completed. They were two different smoothies and both tasted like banana shakes. I am from Villanova. I have a playa bowl In Wayne near my parents and love it there. I work near rittenhouse sq and decided why not get my fave bowl for a quick lunch today. I go. And I ask if adding Nutella to the pura vida bowl is extra. Cashier says yes but you could swap out the honey for Nutella for free. I know for a fact I said Alright I'll do that. So she rings me up and I get a text receipt and walk away to wait. Don't really look at the text receipt, it's more so for my record in case an error posts on my CC statement. So the nice young boy at the counter makes my bowl. I take it and run out as I am on a time clock for my break. I get to my office and find that my bowl has peanut butter on it (ick) not Nutella. Im like what? We talked about this in depth. Well turns out she rung me up for peanut butter ; not Nutella :/ and also charged me extra ($1) even though I explicitly asked about the extra charge and said yes I want to just do a free swap of Nutella in place of the honey drizzle. So I run back for the right order because that ish was $14 !!! and I want the right bowl. I felt bad because the young man who made it was so sweet and great. But this cashier (at 3:30pm on Saturday March 5th 2022) was not super kind about it. She said we can make the new bowl fine but was super super defensive and dismissive and rude when I said you charged me extra when you said you wouldn't. She was so rude I didn't even bother. I said out loud "okay well it's $1 I don't care can I get the right order though" to her and left it at that. What a mean girl. I would've continued the discussion professionally that I want the price adjustment but she was so scary and mean. She really had a tone let me tell you, no one has ever really spoken to me like that in a long time. As a person who works for retail companies I know the customer is always right. and I was actually being nice about it even though what they did was not okay and def warranted a free bowl and full refund right there. Get the order right or be nice and own up to your mistake and apologize. I got no apology at all. She was def pissed I came back for the right bowl it was awkward. She legit wrote on the order ticket peanut butter. And from there I continued to be extremely nice because she scared me... she continued to be kind back lol. Very hot and cold temperament I guess. She made my new bowl and I ran back to my store to eat. After two running trips and crappy rude service (from cashier not bowl maker boy who again was so sweet) I was very upset. Especially because it was $14+. I will never return here. I have the cashiers name (thank god I got that receipt) but I won't go that far unless asked from the business itself. I'll add that the bowl wasn't nearly as good as the one in Wayne PA. go to that location for a good bowl. The blueberries tasted old and rubbery/squishy. Some even had stems in them. and the strawberries weren't crisp like at radnor. I'll be sticking to my home location (where the pura vida is $11) and the service and fruit is top notch. I got the Electric Mermaid Pitaya Bowl here because I needed something verging on healthy after a couple of days of very indulgent vacation eating. The Electric Mermaid was the best pitaya bowl I've had on the east coast. The base was really refreshing without being too sweet. The bowl was topped with ample, perfectly proportioned fruit and granola. I added on hemp and goji berries and they didn't skimp on those either. These bowls would be very nice for breakfast or brunch, especially if you needed a pick-me-up. My bowl was delivered. The quality had not suffered at all. Only thing is that these bowls are indeed pricey if ordering for delivery. My bowl was 20 dollars on GrubHub. I don't know if prices are lower if picking up in person but if I lived here, I'd go in person to check on that. Regardless of pricing off of delivery apps vs in person, I had this vision of having a girlfriend visit on a Saturday morning in the winter where we cranked the heat up, ordered an açaí or pitaya bowl from Playa Bowls, and watched interior design shows. I guess I had high expectations thinking that they would actually cut strawberries daily instead of using frozen ones or in a jar. You can clearly taste the difference as it is much sweeter and has a funky taste from being in the freezer. They also put too much granola which just makes it even more unhealthy.... You can't even taste the açaí because there's so much granola it's over powering. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you like spending 12-15 dollars for artificial flavors and not fresh fruit.
