While visiting my mother last year, I saw that she was about to throw out an old frame that adorned…read moremy childhood home. It featured a matte with many panes in different shapes and sizes, for kids' photos. Being the nostalgic type, I refused to let her throw it out - but what kind of proper framer would deign take on such a lowly task? As it turned out, Jordan and Brandon at Pitch Black were happy to rescue it. They all but rebuilt it, stiffened and straightened the matte, and handed back a handsome, drum-tight frame that will feature my kids for the next 30 years. When I returned a month later, to ask if they would print some photographs, I got to spend some time with them and observe their studio in action. I was super impressed - not just with the operation (from color correction to matte cutting, frame building and glass cutting) but with their body of work. It felt like all the presentations were different, not just variations on a theme, and I could see how much effort they put into making other people's art look spectacular. The pricing was excellent, and their positive attitudes made me want to print more, frame more, and share more of my work. For me, that's an added bonus of Pitch Black Editions: Brandon and Jordan are really cool, artistically inclined guys who are willing to do exactly what you want, or devise something fresh if you're looking to elevate your work. Cool guys, professional quality, great prices and frames that are built to last. Swing by The Bradford Mill, look for a door on the left side of the parking lot, say hello and never look back. I had faith in them that they'd do a good job hahaha. They've got such nice staff, and it was nice to read all the potential prices and extras that are made crystal clear on the chalkboard/wall behind the registers. The best part? It's extremely affordable! Not to mention the high quality scans and they were right on the money when they told me it would take 9-11 days (I'll take it). The camera store closer to me would take 4 weeks!! The customer service is wonderful--they're so knowledgeable and very kind. They have helped me pick the best option for my needs, and the prices are reasonable! I will say that turnaround is looking more like ~2 weeks instead of the four days quoted by another reviewer. I can only assume that people are starting to take notice of Lumentation and that demand has skyrocketed. It took me 13 days to get my last two rolls of film developed and printed. I find that that's fairly reasonable, and I'm willing to accept a slightly longer turnaround for good service and prices. It's great that they send you a Google Drive link to developed pictures and that they keep your negatives (cut or uncut). Worth the trek into Somerville!
