This wasted time, and I showed up to my appointment at Platz extremely concerned. They were great from day 1, proposing a detailed step-wise test plan proposal and evaluating each step to see if they had figured the problem out - before moving onto the next step. After years of being an Incredibly loyal client, relying upon my vet, spending thousands with multiple animals and trusting everything, recommending the practice to endless people, an incident occurred recently that has changed my opinion forever. I will never go back. The disrespect, not animal related specifically, but that was exhibited, including refusal to even speak and instead having a receptionist relay the news we were not to be seen crossed the line. It was cowardly and unprofessional. I was even more sad to hear that many clients have felt this way recently. The service experience here has changed and it isn't just due to Covid. I have 3 animals so that's a fair amount of vet business. The last two check-ups I had to just walk out on one of them. I'd been waiting in an exam room for over an hour for the vet. The tech had already done what they needed to. A little communication would have made all the difference. We could have rescheduled. I'm busy too, taking off work to get my animals cared for. Recently they neglected to fax my vaccine updates for my dog to the board/care facility, as they committed. I had to call twice to resolve this and got attitude from the staff. I may need a new vet. read more

This is not my regular vet - three generations of my family (and even more generations of pets) have been taken care of by Dr. Dine in St. Clair Shores and I owe him my loyalty for his years of compassionate and excellent service. But this clinic is at the end of my street and I have gone there for simple things like nail trims and prescription food out of convenience. Then one morning I got up and had this sinking feeling something was wrong with one of my cats when I couldn't find her. I had gotten up earlier at 5am to let my dog out and in my sleepy stupor, my cat got outside. It had happened before but I wasn't that worried because I live on a quiet cup-de-sac. But when I couldn't find her a couple hours later, I started searching and found her on my neighbors porch, her side slashed open, bloody and covered in flies. Her eyes were glazed over from shock and she was totally limp. I thought for sure I would lose her. It was a Saturday and Platz was open and closer than the emergency vet. I didn't think there was time to take her anywhere else and part of me thought I would just be putting her down and I wanted to put her out of pain quickly. So I rushed her into Platz with no warning other than a panicked phone call and not really being a client. They could have made me wait or told me to go to an emergency vet. But they took one look at Freya and took her straight back. She required surgery and care over the weekend and the lovely woman who took care of her came in on Sunday to check up on her. They went above and beyond. I wish I remembered the vet's name so I could mention her in this review. My cat made a full, but slow recovery. I think in her head, she had really given up and resigned herself to dying. When she came home she wouldn't eat or drink for days and just sat in one place. I had to use an eye dropper to force her to drink water and fed her baby food. But eventually she started to perk up and made a dramatic recovery. She seems grateful too. She was always a nice cat, but this traumatic event seemed to have bonded us even more. She has transformed into the most cuddly, affectionate cat I have ever had. If Platz hadn't provided such excellent and timely care, I am sure I would have lost a young, sweet, and loving kitty who cuddles up on my pillow every night. It's been years since this event and I still feel such gratitude for the staff at Platz. If they had sent me away, I know she would have died in my arms on the way to the emergency vet. Thank you Platz! And for the record, the only outdoors she's exploring now is in a fenced yard she can't escape from! We still don't know what attacked her. The vet thought maybe it was an opossum. I will never get the mental picture of what she looked like when I found her out of my head. I am so glad we got a happy ending! read more

I've been going to Platz Animal Hospital for 10 years now. During that time, I have been bringing 3 of my dogs there. Currently I have 2 dogs that are taken care of by Platz. The staff is exceptional and friendly. Words can't express enough how competent they are. Dr. Gabe has been taking care of Mr. Barlow, my 3 year old Chihuahua, who has a bit of a knee problem. Dr. Gabe understands how my wife and I feel about Mr. Barlow and takes extreme caution and love with Mr. Barlow's care. Because of Dr. Gabe, we now know that Barlow's knee problem is not dire and that chihuahuas commonly have that specific issue. He instructed us how to properly care for Barlow and what to do and not do while he heals. Dr. Gabe always goes the extra mile, this is just one example of his kindness. Dr. Andris is another doctor at Platz. He takes care of our rescue dog, Mr. Schneebly. He is a 10 year old chihuahua that is in remarkably great shape! He gets his teeth cleaned by Dr. Andris and gets yearly check ups about his thyroid issue. Mr. Schneebly is extremely thankful to Platz Animal Hospital. When we first rescued him, he was not in good health. Dr. Andris took care of that right away! To this day, we can tell that Mr. Schneebly knows that Dr. Andris loves him and helped him when he was not at his best. I highly recommend this business. My spaz of a cat ripped one of his nails out recently and it needed to be removed completely or else I was afraid of infection and also unnecessary pain for my little dude. I called at least SIX vets trying to get an appointment that day and everyone was booked, but Platz fit us in! They were kind and fairly priced. I expected at least a $300 bill and it was half of that for an office visit, sedation, claw removal, and antibiotics. They were also quick, and my dude seemed good, if not tired, afterwards. At my last vet, they would always call a day or two after any procedure to check in on how the animal was doing and to see if I had any questions, which I loved. I, of course, could have called if there was any problem, but I always think that kind of customer service goes so, so far. That is a just me being a little nit-picky, and I'll be going back! read more

I had taken my cats to Platz for a number of years. Twice in recent months I urgently wanted them to look at a very sick cat. The first time they told me I could get an appointment in 4 days. The second time, I was pretty sure my cat wouldn't survive the night and showed up with cat in tow, and was told they couldn't do anything because they were about to close. My cat did die that night. If you have a sick pet, do not go here. You will be turned away. They are more interested in money than helping. read more

As much as my pet doesn't like going to the vet and I don't like it because he gets stressed, these guys and gals make it so much easier. You can sense that the well being of the pet is their concern and they are not money driven like some of the other vet establishments. I also like they are very thoughtful about the treatments they recommend, they make sure they get previous records and consider the side effects. Based on my experience, their approach is to make your pet well, not just to experiment numerous medications on them to see what will work at the detriment of your pet and your wallet. I believe because of Platz reputation, they have a lot of patients which causes delays at times. But they handle it very graciously and genuinely try to do their best, so be patient. read more

When I think of Platz, I think first of kindness to pets and people. It was true when I used them a decade ago, and it's true now. If it's your pet, it's important to them. The vets and techs explain the results of tests and treatments for anything the tests find. When someone someone found worms (tapeworm pieces) in the fur under Gracie's tail, Platz got her in, tested, and treated within an hour or two. Since Gracie was due for annual tests including heartworm the next day, they took care of that too. Platz 's prices are affordable. They make it comfortable and easy for people to take care of their pets. It's sad that all vets don't treat people the same way. Vets need to make it easy for people to care for their dogs and cats. I've been going to another great vet, further away, that helped the foster/rescue my dog came from. Now I'm back. read more

The Dr's and vet techs here are great but the customer service at the counter leaves a lot to be desired. I couldn't believe that after spending $320 to have my puppy spayed and micro chipped I wasn't sent home with a cone. Is this not part of a surgical procedure? I definitely understand procedure however the receptionist was rude and made no effort to rectify the situation other than reiterating that I could purchase one for $15. Absurd in my opinion after the amount of money I had just spent. Because of her I have decided to take my business elsewhere. read more

We drive about 60 miles to see Dr. Platz and the other vets. He is wonderful and innovative and treated many of our cats who had spraying/marking behaviors, he is an expert in that area. When I first met Dr. Platz, I was taking my dog to every specialist there was, to heal him. He told me, that if I were his sister, he would tell me to stop it, and know that it was Steven's time or it wasn't his time and not to spend every dime I had to save him. He was right and it snapped me out of my fear of him dying and back in to the real world. Baby Steven died but peacefully and had a good life with me. I was wrong to keep him alive for my benefit and Dr. Platz was the one that cared enough to bring me back to understand how my love for Baby Steven hindered his progression to heaven. I am so grateful. I have had many animals pass since then and it changed how I feel about it, thanks to Dr. Platz. It is still painful but not the same desperation (for my sake and not theirs). I now am able to take in "special needs" animals who often don't have long to live but, I am able to give them the love and care, that they need until the end. I have been going to Platz for about 5 years now, seeing both Dr. Platz and Dr. Ticcony. Both are excellent vets, take their time with my rotties, and give them excellent care. Despite the size of my dogs, they are very gentle with them, and my dogs and I appreciate it. I fell on hard times this year financially and was unable to get my pups their yearly boosters.
