Unprofessional, overpriced, lack of knowledge, simply unacceptable work. I made an appointment to have stitches taken out. I repeatedly said I didn't want an exam, just stitch removal. They said okay. I was then charged almost $140 and it was explained upon checkout that they 'have to do an exam for first time patients'. That could have been understandable if they had mentioned that over the phone, or at the front desk, or in the waiting room when I'd mentioned it multiple times. My puppy has a lump on his back that they did not catch, nor the patches on his feet. No exam was truly done. I went in for stitch removal, paid $135, and they did not end up take all the stitches out. I had to pull them out myself once we got home. The veterinarian was googling questions in front of me - at least do that in the back room. I am absolutely not a fan of this clinic. read more

STAY AWAY! Absolutely USELESS vet that OVERCHARGES for absolutely nothing. CLEARLY trying to recoup money for their upgrade in facilities and movement from their old clinic to the corner of the Beaumont hospital. I went in for a growth on my dog's chin which was pink with purple splotches... DEFINITELY NOT NORMAL!... and they said they could not do anything for her because "it was too small to stick a needle into" and sent me home with a $100 vet bill for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! How convenient that the vet bill and the UNEEDED meds happened to come out to Exactly $100! AND they charged me an ENVIRONMENTAL DISPOSAL FEE! For WHAT? What the hell did you dispose of while telling me the growth was too small???? I had to call back and they DID NOT credit it back to my CREDIT CARD, they instead give me a "credit to my account." I don't want a credit to my account, I want the credit to my credit card. So they ESSENTIALLY are telling me they are KEEPING the money and will apply it to future services. I ask ONE QUESTION about an allergy that she has and ask them if they do allergy testing and SUDDENLY, my visit becomes about her allergies and they PUSH UNNEEDED allergy meds on her. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt and use it the next time she has an allergic reaction, and it does NOTHING! In fact, she got a secondary bacterial infection of her nail beds like she ALWAYS does and they refuse to prescribe her the Keflex that has ALWAYS cured the nail bed problem. Because it is FREE at Meijer! DO NOT TRUST HARTRICK! They are not owned by the original vet. They were BOUGHT OUT by some other vet. My dog has always been extremely stressed at vet visits INCLUDING THIS ONE! And the doctor IGNORED her behavior "because I did not come in for that" yet when i went to Blue Pearl, they were more than willing to tell me that my dog needs Trazadone because she exhibits hyper-excitability. They told me to ask my vet for Trazadone, I call Hartrick to ask for it and they want to see her AGAIN! I'm sorry but was my dog bouncing off the walls during our visit, not enough? The fact we couldn't hear each other because my dog was extremely vocal when she is NEVER vocal? The fact that she throws up every time I put her into a car, or shits and pisses in the lobby when she is DEFINITELY housebroken? Was that not enough for you to acknowledge that she has an anxiety or stress problem DURING our visit? When every other veterinary professional has suggested either Benadryl, Xanax, or Trazadone after seeing how she acts in a waiting room... was that not enough or are you just trying to charge me for several visits to PAY YOUR NEW RENT BILL?? In the last few months I visited them many times including dental cleaning for my one cat and leg surgery for my second cat. One procedure was done by Dr. Syed, another by Dr. Brown. I also had contact with different technicians that were taking care of my cats. All to say that every single time it was a very pleasant experience. Everyone is very friendly and gives a lot of warm care and attention to your pet. Very professional practice. They called me on the days of the procedure with explanation how it went and what was performed, during pickup they give you all necessary instructions and call your the next day to check if everything is good and how your pet is feeling. Another positive is that they won't charge you for anything extra, in my case every payment was lower that the estimate. The clinic is new and very clean. They have separate rooms for cats and dogs. I just saw the cat rooms but they were very nice and cat friendly. Overall, I'm very happy I chose them for two different procedures for my two cats and they will be my to go place on the future of I need vet visit for my pets. read more

Really tired of this place. The staff may be nice but things always get delayed. One day as I was waiting to get stitches removed, I must have heard a minimum of 10-15 calls come in and no could help the customers as the common phrase of no vet is here. They mark up the meds, a minimum of 300% and when I try to get a script for an online order they will not work with that pharmacy, need to go there, get the script then mail it in, compared to faxing it into the pharmacy. I've now heard THREE different excuses for being unable to get the script for my dog. They also PUSH meds for the dogs. Some times borderline unethical. ie dog was in for surgery and they pushed a bordetella oral even though I said no. That med for kennel cough does not take effect for a minimum a week even though the dog was not there for more than that day. The dog otherwise does not get bordered. I'm looking elsewhere read more

I brought my cat in for a rather urgent issue since our normal vet couldn't fit us in and I was blown away in the best way. The technicians and vet were INCREDIBLE. They handled my cat with such care and tenderness. When I complimented how wonderful they were, they said, "well we always want to make sure we prioritize the pet and make sure that they are okay". I could've cried! I genuinely didn't believe people like this existed. They laid out the pricing very clearly and I found it unbelievably reasonable compared to other places in the area. The facilities were clean, the diagnosis process was seamless. I asked SO many questions and the vet took the time to answer each one. Since our visit I have spoken with the vet directly on the phone multiple times and she has gone above and beyond to ensure my cat receives the best care. I took my dog to this clinic for 2 years. My dog had 2 curbside appointments (during covid) and on his third, we had to leave because he was so terrified that he wouldn't get out of the car. Huge red flag. When I received his records to take to his new vet, I noticed that the seizures he had were NOT DOCUMENTED! I always got the feeling that no one was listening to me about these seizures and they kept being minimized. After one visit to a new vet, he was started on medication. This is of lesser importance but still notable - The wait time was always pretty long because of emergencies. Extremely Disappointed with the transparency Hartrick provided. Was told that the ballpark price for a 50lb Canine Neuter, would be ~$500, which included bloodwork and a wellness exam. After the wellness exam, I was charged $217, and told the canine neuter would be an addition $600-$800. I can understand being maybe ~$100 off on price, but missing by ~$400-$500 is another story. I couldn't be happier with the surgery and the services provided. I was worried about the cost but found them very reasonable. We have been long-time customers here and we will never come back ever again. Very unprofessional practice. Scheduled our dog for a morning teeth cleaning and were told no food/water after midnight the day before his surgery. Dropped our dog off at 8:20AM as requested and were told his surgery would occur in the morning and we would get a call around 1-2PM once he woke up from anesthesia. Hadn't heard anything back by 3PM so we decided to give them a call. They told us our dog hadn't had his teeth cleaning yet and they weren't sure when we could pick him up. Meanwhile, our dog had been sitting in their office since 8:20AM, without eating or drinking in almost 24 hours. Picked our dog up around 5:30PM, who had JUST come out of surgery and the Dr. who performed the surgery was nowhere to be found. In my opinion, somebody who has only had his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine since 2021 and decides to not introduce himself to the pet's owners in person is extremely unprofessional. Meanwhile, nobody had given us a quote on what the teeth cleaning would cost. We didn't think anything of it because we normally have our dog's teeth cleaned every year and every invoice has been ~$400. However, this time, our invoice was almost $700, which was almost a 75% increase in cost. Mind you, we were also charged for post-op care, when there was no post-op care received. Upon speaking with the office manager the next day, she offered no solutions, and no partial refund for services not received. She claims that Hartrick was bought up by a corporation who recently decided to raise prices to "stay competitive". Our friends and family who take their pets here will no longer be back. Find a vet who values your pets and your business and aren't just hungry to make an extra buck. read more

We took a cat in with a severe eye infection. We were put in a room and ignored for the next hour. The part-time vet discussed graduate schools with a client in the front office. The staff here is very unprofessional. After an hour we left. The cat was efficiently treated elsewhere. We have been going to Dr. Witt for years, and he is one of the best vets around, but his staff including the vet who takes over on his days off is very unprofessional and even rude. read more

Today I had to make the difficult decision to have my therapy dog's pain and suffering taken away. The entire staff was gentle and kind and caring. I've never had to go though this before ever and as difficult as it was it was a great relief for us both to be treated with such kindness and compassion. They even worked with a local crematorium to have him picked up and taken for cremation instead of me having to take him there myself. If I could give this place negative stars, I really would. It started out well - I called on Wednesday morning and they said they could fit me in at 5:15 on the same day, but I should get there early since they close at 6. Apparently at 6pm everyone runs out of the office. So, I left work early, went back home to Royal Oak and picked up my pooch, and made it to Hartrick at 5:00 on the dot - not an easy task since the stupid Dream Cruise is already going on!! The place is set in a skeezy looking strip mall on Woodward and 13 - but I thought, hey, it had good ratings, and it's what's on the inside that counts. When I walked in I was not impressed with the decor. There was still dog fur all over the place and I got covered by it just sitting on the benches. The receptionist told me to hold on while she took a business call - totally cool, except for the other employee who was on a personal call on her cell phone at the receptionist desk. Is it too much to ask for some professionalism??? I'm trying to pay you people to look at my dog, take your personal calls in the back, or put down your cell phone and check me in instead of making me wait 15 minutes!! After about 15 minutes, they weighed Peanut and put us in the room for us to wait....and wait....and wait..... The room smelled like some kind of chemical, it made my stomach and my head hurt, and my dog was shaking like crazy. I sat in the room for more than 35 minutes and never saw ANYONE. What I did hear, though, is all the Techs at the front desk gossiping about their weekend. Finally, at 10 to 6 (10 minutes before closing!!!) I went out there and told them I was going to leave. All 5 of the girls were crowded around the reception desk and just looked at me like I was crazy. One said, "Oh...umm...let me see if I can find the doctor." Ummm FIND THE DOCTOR??? REALLY??? I just told them not to worry about it and I got a "Sorry" and then they went back to their conversation. Typically, I would not mind a wait, but when I am told to get in early so that they can close on time, and then I'm still not even seen by the doctor at 10 minutes to close, I'm feeling a little uncomfortable about the situation. I don't want a doctor rushing to diagnose my dog just because he has a dinner date or something. So Hartrick sucks. I'm going to Little Friends of Ferndale. read more

This is a fabulous veterinary practice. My family started using them for our dog 15 years ago. They remained our vet through 2 moves. Our dog had numerous behavioral issues toward the end and Dr. Pytel offered several options to try. Unfortunately we ended up putting her down and as difficult as that decision and experience was, the staff at Hartrick was fabulous throughout. As previous reviews have mentioned, there's no pressure for high-cost treatments/options. They're available if you want them but they don't make you feel like a heel if you say no. After a break of a few years being pet-less, our new puppy has been going here since we brought her home. One of the best vet practices in the area. read more

I agree about Hartrick Veterinary Clinic. All 3 (4 with Melonhead - our semi-adopted stray) of our cats go there now and we are very happy with this choice. We initially started going here because they are geographically a little closer to us and the hours are better than our old vet (who was also wonderful). Drs. Witt, Pytel and Saunders have all treated our pets and always have a professional, caring, and engaged demeanor. I know they are paying attention to my concerns. UPDATE: We have a stray that we take care of and had to take him in for care. He's about 15, and another male had beaten him up pretty severely. He had some abscessed wounds and a very high temp so I wasn't sure he would make it. Dr. Witt was completely great with Melonhead (he's the butterscotch kitty in the background of my pic). I really like the doctors at this clinic as well as the staff. Great care and attention of the vets and techs. Even with Melonhead (who is doing just fine and will probably come home this weekend), Dr. Witt called me several times for updates and was always ready to answer any of my questions. read more

This is a GREAT practice, however, their prices are obscene. They are twice as much as other practices, with equally amazing reputations. Example: Cost of a dental cleaning for a dog is close to $400, however other vets in the area were about $200-250. If you buy your heartworm or flea meds thru them, they are about 3x the retail cost (go to Petco or Walmart to get your meds). They will never tell you on the phone how much services are. They also do not allow any type of payment plans or accommodations for those with financial issues &/or emergency care needs. Overall, they are great - if you can afford them. I know what people say, "you get what you pay for" -- however, I have found high quality vet care at a more reasonable rate. read more

The Hartrick Veterinary Clinic is a very special place. I'm going to miss having Hartrick in my area, now that I've moved to another state. As a cat owner of 30+ years, with three cats of different ages, I have used the services of many vets in many countries. My three cats were treated for a variety of issues, both urgent and mundane, by Dr Corino. He is a wonderful veterinary doctor, with compassion, skill, patience and an amazing connection with the animals. Even under stressful conditions, with my younger cat in pain and bleeding from a broken tooth, Dr Corino's calm and gentle manner had my cat reacting with calm surrender and trust. Dr Corino is always doing research and carefully considering his diagnoses, ensuring that the care he provides is appropriate, minimally invasive, effective and consistent with the highest and most advanced standards of care. But more importantly, he has a confident and calm manner with the animals that allows him to take care of them quickly and with no fuss. On two separate occasions, Dr. Corino correctly diagnosed problems that other vets had misdiagnosed for years, finally bringing relief and resolution to my cats' issues. For example, he correctly diagnosed a pharyngeal polyp as the cause of a wheezing sound, rather than asthma, as other vets had said. Getting the diagnosis right is the most important part of the treatment, yet it is not always easy or obvious. It takes a knowledgeable and proficient vet to get it right. Everyone else at the clinic is also super nice and professional. I got my appointments scheduled promptly, got called when there were slight delays and was welcomed warmly at every visit. When my kitties had "accidents" in the carrier en-route to the clinic, the nurses cleaned them up with a smile and without any fuss. Everyone was friendly, warm and great at their jobs. When it came time to pay the bill, I was always surprised at how inexpensive it was for the services offered. Where other vets will nickle-and-dime you for every cotton ball and ointment, this clinic charges fairly, often ignoring minor charges or not charging for quick procedures. Instead of scrutinizing the bill for "surprise" charges, I was often surprised that I didn't get charged for something I know other vets would make me pay for. I only hope I can find a veterinary practice as good as Hartrick at my next home town. Of the 20+ veterinary practices I have used over the years, this one was by far the best in every way. read more

We recently relocated to the area and started taking our dogs to Hartrick. Our first visit was to check on a concern I had with my elderly dog. The vet did a great job of explaining the issue and our options. He didn't try to sell me on a bunch of additional services like other vets I've seen. When our dog was struggling to breathe, they took him in right away and when we the time came to say goodbye to our dog, the staff was caring and patient with us. From time to time, pet lovers ask for a great vet recommendation in the area. I always advise of Dr. Witt at Hartrick & today he proved me correct AGAIN. My little Pom is a very anxious rescue & advises all strangers quite vocally NOT to come anywhere near her. But today she needed her next rabies shot. It warmed my heart to see Dr. Witt take the time to calm her and become her next new friend by the end of our visit. I had been going to woodside (the vet they bought out) for 4 years They are horrible record keepers or just lazy and don't want to pull the file. Puppy ingested non digestible parts of a dog toy and NOBODY would see her as it was midday on a Saturday. I called Hartrick and they took her in, administered the vomiting meds and had the crap out of her belly within an hour. Wonderful caring and highly competent veterinarians. Dr. Corino is AMAZING. We have three cats, they've been to vets in a number of states (we move around a lot) and Dr. Corino was the first to correctly diagnose one of our cats with a nasal polyp, the other vets said she had asthma. It's obvious that the staff and vets love their jobs, they treated our pets like their own. Oh, and about the prices - I think their prices are completely reasonable, much less than what we were expecting from experiences at other vets. They took a reasonably conservative approach to treatment - they didn't recommend super expensive treatments but walked us through the pros and cons of our options and let us decide. Honestly, we were always happily surprised when cashing out, it was always less than we thought it would be and we thought we received much more value than we paid for. I've already recommended Hartrick to friends and family - and now I'm recommending them to you! read more

Save your time and money. This was the dirtiest and most unorganized vet office I have been too. The moment you walk in you can smell the urine, by the time you leave you just feel dirty. I brought my cat here and we waited over an hour to been seen. After finally being called, we were brought to another room to wait another 45 min. A month later we got a letter saying our cat had worms and that they tried to call but must have had the wrong number. I immediately called and was told the doctor would call in a couple days. I told them about the number being wrong and had them read to me what they had on file......it was the correct number, but not once did they call or try to leave a message. Very unprofessional, we will resolve his issue with a vet who is more efficient and customer oriented. read more

Dr. Witt was very kind and gentle with my cat, Dolly, when I came in. Dolly hadn't been feeling well for a few days and Dr. Witt seemed to really take his time and care about her while he did an examination. Dolly was very nervous and scared about leaving her comfy home, but something about Dr. Witt kept her very calm during her examination. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE My girlfriend and I brought our 8 week old puppy here for a standard check up after coming home with it for the first time and for second round of vaccinations. First of all, let me just say when you walk in, the place is just visually unclean, the floors are dirty and the front office staff seemed unprofessional at best. "Do you have an appointment? our computers don't work well so we're not sure if you had one or not." So my girlfriend and I eventually get back to a patient room and we meet one of the vets who I will not name. She was young, clearly probably fresh out of veterinary school - the amount of knowledge she had regarding dogs was less than what I could discover using a simple google search. When I asked her very specific questions in regards to general health (eating, shots certain vaccinations and symptoms) she legitimately couldn't give me a straight answer and as someone who is related to multiple DVM' - this lady seemed timid, and quite frankly not that intelligent or kind toward my girlfriend and I or the dog. Considering we would've potentially spent close to a thousand dollars on vaccinations and medicines in the first year of the puppies life, you'd think she'd be more personable and try to retain us as patients. Instead, this woman pushed us out so fast I couldn't even ask all the questions I wanted to ask. We were also instructed that we didn't need to bring in a stool sample, turns out after going to a NEW vet (naturally) the puppy has an extremely high concentration of hookworm. Although this is extremely common, I wish I would've had them prescribe a legitimate medicine for this ahead of time and not have given me a cheap preventative medicine. Long story short, this place is borderline dirty, and the one DVM we had was about as knowledgeable as a forum on the internet. read more

After lurking for almost a year, this is my first Yelp review, because I just can't tell enough people how pleased I was with my experience at Hartrick. Recently took one of my dogs in for an illness; my first experience with the Clinic, though my dogs have been seen there before with my husband. Dr. Pytel was extremely thorough and took his time both with the pup and with me. He examined the dog several times to make sure he wasn't missing anything. He gave several treatment options and explained his thought process with each. He gave me the option of getting an X-ray and labs to reassure me over the long weekend, but also felt comfortable watching the symptoms to see if they resolved. I opted not to get the extra tests because I felt so comfortable with the doc's assessment of the situation. There was no pressure or guilt to get unnecessary tests. When I arrived home, I noticed something new and called the office, just expecting to leave a message with the gal who answered the phone. She took my message, then got Dr. Pytel on the phone who again was so helpful. And this was all on Christmas Eve! I called back today to see if I should bring the dog back with her current symptoms, and Barb who answered the phone was just great about giving helpful information. She really reassured me, yet also gave me the option of coming in if I was still worried. You won't find a better vet and staff than Dr Witt and his people. Caring, compassionate, and competent. They will take care of your pet while going out of their way to not gouge you. We took our first dog to him over 20 years ago, and just had our second dog in to see him this week. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. read more

I took our shy rescue dog to Dr. Witt for a skin rash that other veterinarians could not help heal. Within the day of seeing Dr. Witt, my dog started to feel better and stopped itching. The visit was amazing. Because of experiences prior to our ownership, our dog fears men. Most vets are kind and do what they can, but Dr. Witt actually knew how to approach a fearful rescue and took the time needed to calm the dog. Dr. Witt gained the dog's trust well enough to do an ear and skin exam. No problems. The dog took treats. That NEVER happens with men. Dr. Witt also knew the history of our breed and told me good stories about the breed's background. Add to this, the bill for my visit was very reasonable. Why should you believe me? I worked at a veterinary hospital for years, and have owned animals for decades. In all of my experience, Dr. Witt ranks as my favorite vet. A previous rater here didn't like the ambiance of the hospital, but I actually enjoyed it. The place is clean, old school, and charming. If you go to vets in shiny new buildings, you can get shiny new prices and big pushes on expensive products. New buildings cannot replace the wisdom of understanding dogs. The people at Hatrick really love animals, and that means everything in terms of care. read more
