I just want to thank Joey and the staff at the PetSmart on Woodward Ave. My 2 year old Shiba Inu can be a little dramatic (hysterical!) at the thought of getting his nails trimmed, but your staff did an incredible job of working with him. I'm thankful that Joey could help calm him down enough to get it done, and that your staff was so understanding about the famous Shiba Inu "scream" that the breed is known for. I've had trouble finding groomers and vet techs elsewhere that have the knowledge and experience of your staff when working with this particular breed. Pet smart, Trader Joe's customers are taking over that entire parking area. It's gotten so bad I can't even go to you on a Sunday. There's no parking. Maybe consider going to your landlord and designating some parking spots just for PetSmart. I am going elsewhere because that parking lot is a disaster. You have a great location but Trader Joe's is killing your business. 2.13.19- I came in here today found parking but no employees up front. Five of them were by the kitty cages discussing the "accident" that was televised today with a dog injury. Rude groomers that made me wait 30 mins to hand them my paperwork taking a glance and saying it expired. The vaccine is good until 2023. I started taking my German Shepherd to this location for grooming purposes. i was told express service would be best for my dog as she barks a lot, doesn't like to be caged up, and doesn't do well with smaller dogs. I was okay with their recommendations I booked my 2nd appointment an entire month in advance to make sure it fit into their schedule. I got a call from the store manager cherise who is not polite. Telling me they can not fit my dog in any time soon and that I needed to go somewhere else. even though the first time I took her there the groomer that worked on her praises the dog and said she did a great job with her. Cherise didnt even try to offer me alternative days or times she basically told me to take her else where. I will never go to another petsmamet again. they lost all my business read more

I just want to thank this groomer for ruining my dog for any other procedures. My dog never had a problem with grooming or vet visits until I took him here. He cried the whole time his nails were being done. i watched two people man handle him and I was seconds away from knocking on the glass. Also his nails were way too short. Now at this exact moment (may 6 2019 at 8:53a.m.) I am sitting in a vets office, on the floor, with a semi sedated, terrified dog, costing me 5× more than it should to have his anal glands done. I feel so bad for my dog. Thank God the vet is trying their best to make him comfortable. read more

I'm torn about this PetSmart. Location is awesome but selection is minimal. Parking lot also sucks. Mixed grooming experiences. One time I had them cut some hair on my Great Pyrenees' rear area. It was basically a shave of the back thighs and the area underneath and around her butt. They did a good job. She still had tangles around her ears. Another time I opted for the furminator service for one of my huskies. When I went to pick him up he looked great but I asked if they expressed his anal glands because he was scooting his butt lately. The groomer said she didn't check his glands (even though on the paper she gave me of services that were performed, she specifically checked the box that said anal glands were expressed). She took him to the back and came back and said she took care of it. She gave him back to me with poop all over his butt area and she had clearly made no attempt to clean him up. Another time I brought one of my other huskies and she also had poop all over her butt when I picked her up (she went in with no poop on her butt). When I asked about her butt the groomer said it was clean and proceeded to roughly handle my dog in an attempt to see her butt. My dog wasn't receptive to the groomer and kept sitting so she couldn't get to her butt. She yelled at my dog and grabbed her butt and tried to lift it and my dog turned around and grinned her teeth. The groomer yelled at her and that's when I told her to stop and that I would clean her at home. The groomer became rude and irritated with me and mumbled something to a cashier and walked away without saying anything else to me. I haven't been back to petsmart since the above incidents and probably won't be returning. read more

I brought my Shihtzu in for a grooming here. I've always gone to PetSmart for grooming, but this was my first time at this location since moving back to Michigan. I don't know what she gave my dog, but he was sleepy the entire day and night after picking him up. I've never seen him with no energy - even after his surgeries, he wasn't like that. I will NEVER trust them with my dog again. I did not have this problem at the Troy location. read more

The Troy location did such a good job bathing my puppy I decided to try this location despite the low ratings. My pup didn't get a fanny trim, but they did shave up his hind legs for some reason. It looks like the trimming tool slipped, because he has a bald spot on the top of his leg. Troy gave me a report card, here I only got a bill. Pet smart is really expensive when you compare prices to say Pet supplies plus. They don't have many of the boutique items that places like Premiere pet supply in Southfield and worst of all, they are Dog racists. They do not allow any pit bull type dog in the store which just further perpetuates the notion that pit bulls are inherently bad dogs. Don't shop here. The prices are high, their loyalty program sucks and they discriminate against different dog breeds. I would not have as big a problem if the no pit bull rule didn't exist. Go to Pet Supplies plus or any of the other boutique pet stores. It's worth it. read more

I took my 2 dogs to be groomed when Petsmart first opened, in Royal Oak. My dogs looked great when I picked them up. Recently I took them for a second time to be groomed. When I brought them home I noticed dog hair flying . I combed them with a dog comb and pulled out handfuls of dog hair. I called Petsmart and was told I should have been told about the deshedding package and maybe the first time I brought them it was not shedding season. I have been having my dogs groomed for many years and never have I brought a dog home and combed clumps of fur from them. I was offered a free comb out for both but I decided not to take the offer. I can comb them out myself and have been brushing them daily. I will take them to be groomed very soon ... but NOT at Petsmart. The only positive thing I can say is the cashiers were very nice and helpful. read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. This location has TERRIBLE customer service (particularly the middle aged lady with mid length blonde hair). I went in today to redeem a coupon and she could not seem to pull up my pet perks number even though I showed her my account by actually logging in onto my account in front of her! She would not pull my account up and I left empty handed with no apology. She was very rude. Despite all of this, the store also does not carry a lot of products and in general is small and cramped. None of the employees offer to help-strange considering the size of the store. read more

When I first got my dog almost 2 years ago, I started looking for a decent, affordable groomer. After trying a few places around my house, I thought I'd try going to this PetSmart because it's right by my house and is slightly cheaper than the other places I had been going to. My initial reaction after my first experience was that it was decent -- the groomer (Brianna) did a mediocre job but was very unfriendly. However, I continued to take my dog there because, as I mentioned, the price was less costly than other places. The first 3 times I took my dog there, I was charged $42 each time. This last time I went, though, was a different story. I got there right at noon (which was the time of my appointment). Apparently Brianna was on a lunch break in the back room, so I had to talk to the girl in the front about what I wanted (even though I get the same thing every time). I spent about 20 minutes explaining how I wanted my haircut. At 2 different points, the lady took my dog to the back to explain to Brianna what I was asking for. Why Brianna couldn't just step out so I could explain to her is beyond me. The lady came back and told me I might be charged an additional $14 because my dog had a few knots in her ears. I explained that this was no different than the previous times I took her there, so I wasn't sure why I was being charged more this time. The lady understood where I was coming from and said she'd tell Brianna. She then told me it would take 4 hours so I left. About 2 minutes after I left, I got a call from PetSmart -- it was Brianna. Brianna basically told me that she'd either have to charge me that extra $14 because of her knots, or she'd have to shave my dog completely. I was so confused because my dog looked the exact same as she always does, so why would this time be different? She was being extremely short and rude on the phone so I got frustrated and briefly considered just going back to pick my dog up. I finally decided to agree to the extra $14 but knew this would be the last time I take my dog there. It wasn't even about that extra $14 anymore, but it was the principle of them randomly deciding that they should charge more when I had been charged the same price the 3 times before, AND how rude Brianna was on the phone. I showed up to pick up my dog at 4pm (4 hours later) and Brianna still had to cut her nails, blow dry her, and clean her ears. What was she doing with my dog for the past 4 hours if THAT much was left??? Once my dog was finally done, I was SHOCKED at how terrible her haircut was. She had completely shaved down JUST her nose and didn't even attempt to blend it in with the rest of her head hair, so there was a blunt difference between her nose and the rest of her face. She barely cut the hair on her neck, where it looks completely disproportional to the rest of her body. She didn't shave the hair on the inside of her ear, as I requested... AND she still has knots!!! So, I paid $57 for a terrible 5 hour haircut with an extremely rude groomer. Needless to say, I will never return to that PetSmart again. read more

I took my Maltese to these groomers and they kept cutting my dog. If he needed to be shaved he always came home with cuts and nicks in his skin. For what you pay you would think they would know what they are doing. I took him to another groomer in Shelby Twp. I had them shave him down every summer and sometimes he would be matted. They knew how to cut him short and brush the matts out. He was never wounded at the groomers at 24 Mile Road and Van Dyke. I no longer live out there so I was trying to find someone closer. My sister suggested PetSmart. She took her dogs there. Now even she goes to another groomer. That's what happens when you hire the first person you can find. read more

This is a much smaller store compared to other PetSmarts I have been to in the past. Not necessarily a bad thing--it's easy to get in and out quickly if you are in a pinch for food for your four legged friends--but selection is somewhat limited. The store itself was very clean and well organized. The cashier was friendly and rang me up quickly. I would return if I am in the area again and need pet supplies; however, this won't be my go to store for all my pet care needs. read more

This pet smart is really good in terms of quality and resources. I recently rented a steam cleaner from here. The young man I picked it from was very nice an explanatory. He took the time to explain how the machine worked and was very pleasant in our interaction. The steam cleaner worked BEAUTIFULLY you can't see any staining or odor! AND for under $30 for 24 hour rental!! (Plus the cost of the solution which was about $20 but I didn't even use half the bottle and got to keep it for next time :) ) the only disappointment was that I was not told I needed to clean the steam cleaner behind returning it. I was simply told to rinse the tanks out and return it before the 24 hours was up. When I came to drop the steam cleaner off the woman at the counter told me I couldn't have my deposit back because it was dirty and pointed to the bottom of the steam cleaner which had a few pieces of dog hair. (It also had dog hair on the bottom when I picked it up and I cleaned it at home) she let me know she could give me my deposit back if I wanted to clean it and handed me paper towels. Which was fine I understand I should have thought to clean it as it's the courteous thing to do, what bothered me was how crass and unapologetic the woman at the counter was about it. I told her I wasn't told it needed to be cleaned and she just had an oh well you have to attitude. Outside of that interaction though this is an awesome PetSmart! They have great sales and always have ample close parking spaces so you can easily load and unload anything you purchase or rent. Staff is typically very helpful. read more

The Royal Oak store is seriously the best. This "micro store" doesn't have training, a PetsHotel, or sell live pets. The grooming salon is tiny and the store is small. But their food selection is spot on, they still carry feeders, and the staff is amazing. It's a great in and out place for all your pet essentials. plus, the updated look is adorable! read more

I took my Golden Retriever to be groomed here. Bri did an amazing job with my Maggie! I have had bad experiences with other groomers in the past, but she came highly recommended by a friend. I love this PetSmart! The staff is so friendly. They make a point of remembering your pet and I always feel welcomed in their store. A while back my puppy had an accident in the store and while I was completely embarrassed, to the associates there it was no big deal. They didn't make me feel bad at all. The groomers are fantastic. First of all let me say that I have had my dog groomed here in the past and was satisfied with the results. What has completely turned me around is what happened yesterday. I called in advance and made a appointment to have my dog bathed. I brought her in at the appointed time and explained to the groomer that I wanted my dog to look her best as I was having a Celebration of Life open house for my partner who recently died. I was expecting 150 people and had a extremely tight schedule to accomplish everything. At this time the groomer informed me my dogs rabies shot expired on the exact date I was standing there. She advised me they could not bath the dog. I was in disbelief as I would think that when I made the appointment I would have been told and if it expired on this day did I not have until midnight. Her and the manager on duty again said they could not bath and brush out the dog. I once again reminded them that my life was crazy and I was dealing with a death of my partner of 30 years and could they make a exception. Again I was told no way. I have never in my life been treated so coldly. Now everyone out there is probably saying the dog could possible have rabies, I can assure you that I am more likely to be struck by lighting on 2 different occasions. I then called the manager and asked for the regional managers number and was given a 1-800 number that requires you to leave a message. He said they are not allowed to give out the managers cell phone. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL FROM ANYONE AT THIS ORGANIZATION. read more
