People who care deeply for animals often build strong…read morerelationships with vets because those doctors are there for both the joyful moments and the hardest ones. Over many years, I've seen Dr. rescue animals that have been injured and he nursed back to health. I've seen his office filled with five or six animals at a time. Animals he's just graciously taken in and provided a home for them. Veterinarians like Dr. Terkel often have to balance compassion with medical judgment. When a pet is suffering, they may recommend difficult decisions--sometimes including euthanasia--to prevent further pain. Even when it's medically sound, that advice can be incredibly hard for families to hear. And except especially when the pet feels like a true member of the family. When a beloved pet dies, people can experience grief similar to losing a human loved one. That grief can include: * Sadness and deep loss * Questioning decisions ("Did we do the right thing?") * Anger or disagreement with the situation * Guilt or second-guessing All of those reactions are normal parts of grieving a companion animal.

This is not true. She offered no explanation, except to say all the staff decided they agreed with this. I loved the staff that took care of Bella and always, every time I brought Bella in, I praised the two girls that took care of her. (Mandie and another girl (They worked together). Dr.Jeanette Vanni was excellent, the best vet I have ever had. We had an excellent relationship. (Don't understand how she could have agreed with their decision. The manager did say that because I was unhappy with their protocol (leaving your animal in the cold vestibule) and not allowed to bring her in.; she decided I would not be satisfied with the service they would provide. (My cat has separation anxiety and I just asked if I could bring her into the room, and then leave to go back to my car and wait till she was done with her treatment. I didn't think this to be unreasonable.

On the night of the 23rd, Dr. John and his assistant from West Woodward Animal Clinic came to our…read morehome for an end‑of‑life visit for our beloved Daisy Mae. When him and his assistant first walked in, Daisy growled a little, unsure of what was happening. But within minutes, she completely relaxed around him and wanted all of his attention. My nervous system picked up on it immediately, and clearly Daisy's did too. He showed up with humanity, presence, with the quiet Veteran-to-Veteran understanding that doesn't need to be spoken. This told us everything we needed to know about the kind of person he is. Dr. John explained every detail of the process with clarity and patience. He told us what to expect, answered every question, and made sure we felt supported through every step. His presence reminded me so much of my brother -- the way he knew exactly when to be serious and when to bring a little light into the room. That familiar warmth meant more than I can put into words. When Daisy took her last breath at 9:28pm, he honored us by giving us private time with her. They both stepped outside into the freezing cold -- during a polar vortex with sub‑zero wind chills -- just so we could have those sacred final moments in peace. That level of respect and empathy is something I will never forget. What touched us even more was his integrity. He knew we had already spent nearly $3,000 on emergency vet visits earlier in the month and still came without expecting ANYTHING in return. We were only able to borrow $250 last minute for her cremation, and even then he tried to refuse it because he knew we were struggling. His compassion was genuine, not transactional. I had been syringe‑feeding and hydrating Daisy since December 30th, monitoring every breath, every symptom, to keep her comfortable and strong, never thinking such an experience would be necessary. I was living to keep her alive so trying to rewire my system to get back to reality has been ugly and incredibly painful. However, I am deeply grateful that her final moments were filled with love, dignity, and the gentle care of someone who truly understands the weight of saying goodbye. Dr. John gave us -- and Daisy Mae -- a gift we will carry for the rest of our lives.

Copied from my google review -‐--…read more I recently called West Woodward in attempt to see if the veterinarian on staff would be willing to even look at our fish to remove a splinter in his eye. The receptionist refused to ask the veterinarian for me. In fact, in response to me asking her if she could just ask him, she laughed sarcastically and said "what, do you not believe me?". I understand that this practice does not cater to aquatic animals but the absolute disdain and callousness of the receptionist in the face of my grief and desperation was heart breaking. Do not take your loved ones here if you expect an empathetic welcome from the suppor staff. You'll be laughed at, belittled, and disregarded. EDIT to add screeshot: Also, please note that she repeatedly told me to Google fish vets near me and would not listen when I requested she ask the veterinarian because the first vet that came up when I googled that exact phrase, was indeed West Woodward.

Previously, my dog had a severe allergic reaction and had hives everywhere! I put her in my car immediately, I didn't call ahead, I just showed up and walked in and he had me take her right to the back no questions asked. He then proceeded to very calmly administer a number of shots and explained to me what he was doing as he was doing it. We waited around for a couple to ensure she was going to be ok and he told me to call if it flared back up (as I'm not sure what caused the reaction). I had decided to give that location a shot as my new vet after that incident however was hesitant when I read all the reviews. I still decided to give at least one non emergency visit a chance. For my non emergency visit, I called to make an appointment with Laurie, a very nice receptionist who got me an appointment the next day. Upon arrival I had to wait a couple due to an emergency situation the vet took prior to mine which I wasn't going to be upset about as the receptionist was open about that and I understood it as well. When I saw the vet he asked me a number of questions to try and root cause why my dog had a few bumps on her ears that had spread. He was very direct and to the point on what he thought. He was open that what caused the bumps on my dogs ears was inclusive as it could have been from rough housing with other dogs or a bacterial infection which is what he was going to treat it as just in case. And to call if it didn't get better in a week. I appreciated the upfront information and at no point felt like he was rude. I will continue to use him as my vet. Pros: Friendly receptionist, Upfront/honest/genuine vet, very affordable pricing, convenient location Cons: Facility is a little dirty (chairs in the examination room are old and have duct tape), the table in the examination room doesn't lower or raise so need to lift dog onto the table (would be an issue if I had a 100lb+ dog or was older)

Owner, Dr. Deena Newland and her super friendly and very skilled and efficient team, were so welcoming. The clinic is always bright, cheerful, and clean. I knew instantly I had found a happy home for my pet care! I have two older, special needs animals; a deaf English Bulldog, Oscar, and a diabetic cat, Cheddar. Needless to say, my animals need specialized care and I need education! English Bulldogs have many health challenges. She knows the breed well and has guided me through, (and has healed), several foot cysts between the toes, a foot surgery to remove an irritating object, lots of allergy care, two puncture injuries in his eye, and now, eyelashes growing into his eyes! Dr. Newland is an excellent diagnostician, and after Cheddar had stopped eating for a week, she was able to diagnose (by touching him), an inflamed liver! She treated him and within a couple of days, he was instantly so much better! As a senior, she is always understanding of my financial limitations and will treat with medicines that work within my budget. She recently changed one of the medications to a new more effective and less expensive medicine for Oscar. If my pets have emergencies they are usually seen the same day. Hamilton Animal Hospital is a joyful, professional business and I am so grateful for them in our community. I highly recommend a visit!
