Plato's has some cute clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc for great prices and often has sales. It does take some digging to find the clothes because there's tons but everything is organized pretty well. The staff can be helpful but often they seem as if they don't want to be working. They can be very unhappy when helping which can be frustrating. If you have clothes you want to sell and get some quick cash you can bring your clothes here. Most times they will take the expensive things and only offer you a low price but it's great if you want to get rid of clothes you just don't want at all anymore. (I have sold my old clothes here multiple times and they have never offered me more than $30. Usually I bring in 20-30 items at a time and they rarely take much) read more

If I could rate no stars, it would be a big fat ZERO. I went to store and asked if they accepted women's clothing and gave example of 1X, 2X and was told yes. I took in women's dress pants, cotton slacks, capris. When I went in to pick up my items (approximately 50 items and all returned to me) I was told they do not accept formal wear. I stated there was no formal wear and questioned what were they considering formal wear. I finally was able to figure out they meant dress pants. I also inquired about why not my jeans and was told no colored jeans r capris.Why didn't they tell me this in the beginning when I made a special trip into the store to inquire before I took in items? All items were taken off the hangers from the dry cleaners and folded neatly but when I received them back they were all wadded up in my baskets. Most horrible experience I have ever encountered! I know lots of people in this community and a lot of surrounding communities and plan to tell everyone I know to NEVER, EVER do business with them!!! My hope is they go out of business for being so ignorant not knowing professional women wear dress pants for office attire or for church. read more

How do I even start? This place is irredeemable, please if you are a kind person walking in here and are an empath. You will find the loneliest group of little girls working here. They are not nice at all, including the store manager ,who probably hired them because they are just like her. It's soooo soooo sad. I feel sorry for the youth that work here. They are extremely critical of everything and everyone. I actually didn't want to come in here but I was curious about all the comments that were left and since I was in the area, I thought I would experiment and see if the stories were true. And sadly they are. As soon as I walked in, I felt judged and hated at the same time. I understand I am not in my 20s anymore but good God bless these women even though they made me cry in the dressing room. I took in 3 skirts and I guess the girl who "helped" me in sorting my clothes saw that I had gotten an extra large size. She then commented that they probably wouldn't fit and that I should leave them on the hangers . Then she said that they don't have any bigger sizes and then rolled her eyes and walked away. I was devastated, Id never before been treated so crudely by anyone let alone a small teenage girl. She was awful and this girl needs Jesus. I can see it. Whoever you are , I hope you do find him and stop making people feel bad about themselves. Stop working in retail if you're just going to make fun of people. When I walked out of the dressing room , I wanted to take the skirts because they all indeed did fit perfectly, but I don't want to give my money to a store that ridicules their customers. I want to thank you for the service I've received over the summer from April until now. I used to bring small bags in 2x a week and I would make $7-13 dollars or sometimes nothing. Each time I would say "thank you" and leave - I NEVER went thru the bins, questioned anything, ask for more money, make a scene or post on FB any comments. I went in the first week in April and was told that I could only come in 1x per week with 1 bag. I said "OK" then went in the next week. I was then told that I had already sold that month and was now only able to sell 1x per month. I said OK & left. I went in 1x each in May, June, July, Aug, and Sept. When I went in in Oct, I was told I could only come in every 30 days, not 1x a month. The manager looked at my basket & said she had time to go thru it since my 30 days would be "tomorrow". I asked what I had done to be black listed from each week, to each month, and now 30 days. She said she didn't know and there wasn't anyone there that could tell me. I left my name to have someone call me but no one did....Well, I took all the items that you passed on over the summer as well as the items I was going to take to you in Nov, when my 30 day clock was over - I took all of that to Uptown Cheapskate. WOW!!! They took SO MUCH!! I got almost $200 for items you passed on & items I was going to take to you. I now have a new place to sell my daughter's items and we can't wait to shop when they open on Nov 20! I went to Plato's Closet yesterday. I bought 3 pairs of athletic shorts because that's all I found I liked. Today I took a bag of purses, a bag of shoes and a huge bag of sleeveless shirts (it's June). They kept one pair of Converse shoes and told me the rest of my clothes weren't their style. I was very upset because I left there with barely worn Hey Dudes, new Muk Luk sandals, a Michael Kors purse & at least 20 adorable shirts many of which still had tags, just to name a few. Upon showing my mom what they rejected because of "style", I quickly realized that my clothing had never been removed from the bag. They never even looked at one shirt! If I unknowingly violated their policy for what type of container the clothes should be in, all she had to do was tell me. I would've been happy to buy a plastic tote and return. I feel sorry for the owner of this store. They are losing money and business due to rude employees who lack basic communication skills. read more

So my wife and I are 39 and 40 years old, but still consider ourselves young at heart and wear the same styles (most, anyway.) When we come to this store we are treated like elderly and that we don't belong. We are paid no attention at all. My wife asked to use a dressing room, and the skinny girl with blonde hair said there's nobody available to open one right now, but the girl right next to her said immediately "I could get that for you." Went in to sell some old clothes. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I brought in a bin of about 20-30 items to sell. While you wait, you get to look around the store. They have a lot of good jeans, boots, and other shoes from what I looked at. Didn't really look at much else. It took about 30 minutes for them to sort through and price my clothes and then they texted me when it was ready. Out of my 20-30 items, they took 6 and I got about $25 for them. The items they took were target brand jeans (or similar), a sweater from LOFT, and any items with the tags still attached. Items they didn't take were target brand jean shorts and colorful or patterned cotton shorts. Also, not many (if any) t-shirts or tank tops. If you're looking to make a few extra bucks off the clothes you never wear and would have just thrown away, this might be a good place for you! But don't expect to make a lot of money from it. If you're looking to make more of your money back on your items, you're better off selling them yourself on eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, or Depop, However, this experience is a lot more convenient and you get your money instantly and in cash. TLDR: Rating Plato's a 4/5 because the experience was easy and the staff were nice but they didn't take a lot of my clothes and I didn't earn that much. They're really not that bad, they have a policy for things like a shirt they buy for x amount, jeans they buy for x amount etc. they don't care if it's Prada or target, it's x amount. Yeah the employees aren't overly nice, but that's fake. They do their job, they're not rude, and for someone who is too lazy to sell their clothes online, it's nice to walk out if there was some cash. Don't expect to walk in there with a trash bag of clothes you didn't wash and get $100, it just won't happen. One con is they say they'll text you when they're done but I never get that text idk if it's a technical issue or not, but wait 15 mins and then politely ask for an update and chances are they're done looking at your stuff. The worst. Went in there to sell a basket of clothes and was told I had to wash all of the items because one piece had a cat hair on it and buyers could be allergic. They said that if I washed the clothes then they could take them. I went home, which is quite a long drive, they should have stated in store rules that clothes needed to be free of animal hair, and washed the whole basket of clothes. Went back a few days later to sell the now perfectly clean clothes. I was THEN, and ONLY THEN, told that they could not take the clothes because they were "kids clothing" when the clothes were for teens and up, and that is what they take. The clothes I was trying to sell were designer, barely worn, and the right age group and size. The girls that work there kept snickering at me and acting as if they ruled the place. Incredibly rude, should not work there anymore. Also got overcharged for a pair of shorts. A rip-off, don't shop here, instead go next door to the other clothing shop, I can assure you that they are way better and respectful. I actually like Plato's closet they had some pretty decent namebrand clothes. Some of them slightly overpriced, but other than that it was a nice place that smells clean (especially for a consignment shop). I myself did not have any issues with the staff they seem pretty friendly to me. I Would recommend them, and also recommend you at least try then out for yourself. read more

Came here today to sell some clothes and found myself staying longer to browse. And I will say, I am honestly quite surprised at the number of prior negative reviews. I notice some of them are older, so perhaps things are changing. To sell, you bring clothes to sell in a tub or tote and put your name down at the front counter. You must show your ID to sell. I believe their criteria for buying is not obviously worn, fashionable, and in season. I guess I should also mention that I had no expectation - of my tub of maybe 25 pieces, they "bought" 5 and gave me $12. They have a formula where they give you like 30% (or is it 50%?) of what they would retail it for. The woman going through my things noted that they weren't taking certain items (i.e., patterned shorts) and that some of my items had older tags (true - didn't realize they changed that often). They prefer brands like Merona, Old Navy, Victoria's Secret, Forever 21 (compared to higher price range items like Banana Republic). I acknowledge that this seems pretty subjective and I saw comparable items on the rack as what I had brought in, but overall had a good experience with it. The store seemed clean and well organized. At least two staff members was continuously organizing and arranging while the other was going through selling/buying. In terms of purchasing, most items are listed at $8, with some variation. I think this is a neat set up for those who want fashionable items for less than retail price. read more

Came in twice to sell clothing, once my fiancé asked me to go in and sell his stuff for him, but the employee wouldn't let me even speak a word in before she said "Yeah who do these men's clothes belong to?" I responded with, "My fiancé." She quickly said, "We can't buy these if they aren't yours....so..." and I nervous laughed, but understood, but when I looked up, she was giving me such an awful, mean glare. So, I told my fiancé to go in and handle it from there & sell his own clothes. It worked out well for him, he got $50 for his old, beat up clothes & a few nice jeans. When I went in on my own to sell my own clothes, I brought 5 bags worth of stuff in. 80% were brand new, if I wore them at all, I only wore them about once. The employee was explaining how they aren't accepting much of women's inventory at the moment since they are needing more men's clothing. But, she said she would look through my stuff anyway while I looked around the store. As I was looking through the store, I couldn't help but notice how beat up all of their tops were. There were old as dirt tank tops, stained Forever 21 camisoles, tacky t-shirts. So I thought for sure they would accept a majority of my wardrobe considering what they do have for sale is....basically crap. Their shoes were beat up and even had foot sweat stains and obvious wear and tear. It was not cute. My name was finally called, I went back up to the front to find out they only accepted 3 of my items. 3 pieces of clothing from my 5 bags of nice dresses, pants, shoes, tops. I only got $6.80. I laughed and said "Well, hey, I'll take what I can get." I was so disappointed. I'll definitely be going elsewhere next time I want to get rid of my clothes. The problem with this store is that there's too much junk. It's 90% women's junky clothes from God knows where and 10% men's. They need to donate all of the women's clothes to a church or just throw some of it away. They're unable to accept good clothes because all they have is junk. The employee even expressed to me that there's even more junk in the back! It's definitely a stressful environment for the employees (which may be why they come across as rude), customers AND people that are trying to sell their clothes. If they could just clean out the place, it would probably be a lot better and sellers could actually get rid of their clothes that ARE in good condition. It used to be a decent place, it's a bummer that it's gone so downhill. But hey, if you're a man with some extra clothes, take them to Plato's and you'll probably get $50! The employees are the worst part of going to Plato's Closet. They're unprofessional. I am currently in the store selling clothes listening to an employee talk about what a "THOT" (for those not familiar with this acronym, it stands for (that ho over there) she was the other day as she stuffs food in her mouth. The employees continued to gossip the entire time I was in the store....in additional to using colorful language and playing on their phones. You have to really watch out here. They sometimes have quality clothing if you're lucky, but we have also found clothes here with holes, rips, and stains. Also, everyone that works here has serious attitude. I was looking for a good place to sell some vintage clothing, and the internet advertised Platos Closet as a consignment store that accepted on trend vintage and new clothing. After making hundreds of dollars at Buffalo Exchange in Chicago, I thought I might try Platos Closet, since it's closer to where I now live. Not only were they rude and insulting , but they also informed me that they only sell mall brands such as Aeropostale and Hollister. To top it off, the girl at the counter would not give me all of my stuff back until she finished berating my items and repeatedly telling me they were business wear.... because everyone knows business people wear 80s electric blue tribal print boleros. It's no problem if a consignment store doesn't want to buy the stuff I bring in, but I don't see how insulting me should be part of it. Don't trust this place to actually do their job. I came in with a plastic bucket full of barely worn clothes even some with tags. Like a brand new Baylor University v-neck that cost $20 with the tag. Bunch of Old Navy clothes, even two coach shoes, never worn heels, boots, and vans. I had at least 25 shirts some hipster like sweaters, and 6 pairs of shoes and they said it would take 15 mins to go through my things and less than 5 mins later they said they didn't want any of it because it wasn't "what they were looking for". They're very rehearsed at what they're saying it doesn't sound personable at all sounded like they were reading right off a card. They said that they are not taking in Baylor shirts (even though they have a Baylor shirt display right by the door) and they don't take name brand items like Coach unless they have a receipt for it. UH HELLO they're used not brand new why would someone keep their receipt for it? This store is a joke. The shoes they sell on the stands are so nasty and dirty looking and they look like Forrest Gump just ran the whole country in them. They were not "gently used" but mine were? Yet they couldn't take mine and mine were name brands that were listed on their page. I looked through the guy clothes for my husband and every shirt looked like it was worn for 5 years. Lmao brought in probably 30+ items into the store to sell and I swear no more then 5 mins later they where done looking at it, there was no way they looked at every item. Then they went on to tell me I had a lot of brands they don't take and items that where out of style. Understanding that and not wanting to waste anybody's time I asked what brands they don't take so I wouldn't bring those in again and they went on to say faded glory was a big one that I had and that I had a lot of faded glory polo shirts. Faded glory is Walmart brand, I literally have zero items from Walmart, and I said that and she persisted to want to argue with me which I stopped there because clearly these people no nothing about the item of clothes they are buying and don't feel like taking the time to look through either. Frequent shopper and seller to this location. Put up with underpriced buying and overpriced reselling for a while, today they lost a customer. Today I pulled a vest off a rack that had a sign on it that said "$5 sale!" but it rang up at $25. The manager would not honor the $5 price despite none of the other articles hanging on the rack having some elusive clearance stamp (didn't see it on any piece in the store after 40 mins shopping). He said clothes needed to be on the floor for at least 6 months to be on sale, but 11/15/15-5/4/16 was not close enough! Rude manager who refused to acknowledge the sale rack or honor the sale price made for a horrible customer service experience. read more
