Insufferable. Disrespectful. Hostile. All adjectives to describe the employees at this location. Not to leave out that the girls are rude and not helpful. I walked into an isle where someone was looking at the items. The young lady gave me a rude look and rolled her eyes at me. I thought she was a customer. But she was an EMPLOYEE. I have brought items to sell (name brand: ugg, coach, forever 21, oldnavy) and only ended up with a whooping 6.17 dollars. They said they couldn't take the items cause they were "outdated" and "had a smell". Although I washed the items before bringing them to the store. The service is AWFUL. No greeting or checking in to see if the customer needs help. Girls are RUDE and give disgusting looks when asked to put something back or when asked to check out. Music selection was awful and to loud. The store overall was too hot and makes it uncomfortable to shop. The selection of clothes is decent but terrible pricing. Overpriced "thrift" store. As someone who works in the retail business. I pride myself in treating every single customer that comes into the shop with respect and always offer assistance. Don't know what I did wrong but the moment I walked in there three girls sized me up and down from behind the counter. I even asked if they were closed because the harsh looks. I thought it was just me but afterwards another person came in and asked the same thing.. "oh are you closed?" "uh no." was the response we received. It sucked, made me circle around the store and walk out, feeling super judged. This is the second time i've gone in with the same basket of clothes. The first time i went i got all my things back folded in the same order i brought them in and looked like they only looked at a few things in top and took them. Since they did that i decided to fold up a 10 dollar bill in the bottom of the basket. when i went back to pick my clothes up they took a few items but there was no mention of the money at the bottom so i looked to see and sure enough the money was still there with the clothes covering it that i remembered putting there. After looking on their instagram account i came across the girls name who im pretty sure went through my items. Her name is madison, a few days ago my friends took their items to go sell to see how much they could get turns out the same girl madison went through their items and took nothing of theirs. read more

They will not buy your clothes I brought In a bag of name brand jeans all bought within the year and one pair that had been bought the same week. brought them in and they said they only wanted to by the brand new pair I had bought from American eagle that still had the tags on them. They were orgina 70$ they wanted to buy them from me for 6$ yes 6$ for brand new American eagle pants with the tags still on them. DO NOT BRING YOUR CLOTHES. ps while I was waiting I was trying on clothes and tried on a pair of pants that fit me great but went to zip them and there was a hole where the zipper starts, so they won't buy only year old jeans and then only want to pay 6 dollars for new 70$ pants and then I find damaged clothes they bought. The service was ok, but when i went in to turn in clothes i was looking around and i saw lots of shoes that were not in great conditions .. i just don't think they should be taking the used shoes that are filthy. when i came back up to get the money for my clothes were never worn .. the women said they were too filthy in a rude way. i just don't think the value of this store is useful. i would recommend pineville instead. The reviews do not do this place justice. Upon walking in my daughter and I were greeted with a cheery face, and we stayed about an hour. The store is super organized and easy do navigate. I literally left there so excited for us to return. Kayley checked us out and was very polite. Everyone working seemed busy, but also helpful. We are so happy to this store to shop at. read more

They do NOT correctly authenticate their luxury items. I was shopping during a recent visit to the area and asked if a Dooney wallet was authentic. The girl at the counter told me they authenticate all of their items and guaranteed it was authentic, so I purchased it. Luck would have it that I waited until I returned home to Florida to do some further inspecting of my new wallet, and wouldn't you know there were tell-tale signs of a fake allll over the bag. I should have seriously googled "how to spot a Dooney fake" before leaving the store, but I went on the cashier's word. Be warned that if you're looking at a luxury item, there's a good chance you'll be walking out with an authenticated knockoff. read more

Went in not really thinking I would like the store as it is geared towards teens. I have shopped several retail outlets and my biggest complaint is there is not enough of a variety. I have had to recently update my closet and can't see spending an arm and a leg for clothes. Especially since I have two children. I noticed right away the selection is great. The store is well laid out and organized. Every item I found was in great condition, especially shoes. I also found the prices to be reasonable. My daughter is a preteen and was glad to see I have an option for her for clothing. I frequent thrift shops and consignment shops and this store by far is the cleanest in the area. I haven't sold anything to the store so this review is strictly as a shopper. T The employees were all very helpful and friendly. My only complaint: I wish the store were bigger! I was very excited to see a Plato's Closet near by my daughters college. We have had such great positive experiences with the one in our home town. HOWEVER....we have visited this store now on several different occasions and have been treated so poorly. Staff are not friendly at all. In fact they look down their noses at us while we shopped. And they were over heard making fun at applicants resumes and spoke rather harshly about the applicant. Poor professionalism. The merchandise is good and well priced but I'll find another Plato's Closet to shop from here on out. Based solely on the employees. read more

First off the service here was terrible, the girls behind the counter were awfully judgmental and on top of that I sat and watched her only go through not even half of the clothes that I brought to sell. I've been in several Plato's Closet stores. I was in this particular store Friday during the day. This one is just like the rest. They're a used clothing store. The store was clean & pretty organized. However, when checking out, several of the girls behind the desk were talking about either another customer or another co-worker. One girl in particular seemed to be minding her own business & continued to work while the others gossiped & giggled. Ladies....it's not polite to talk about others in front of a customer! Will I return? Yes. The employees were polite & friendly towards me, I just am not a big gossiper & get disappointed when it's done in front of me. Good point about Plato's Closet in Rock Hill: my teens enjoy finding good clothes which are in fashion at a bargain price. Bad points about Plato's Closet in Rock Hill: the shopping environment..... 1. Too crowded - can't get to anything on the racks b/c it's jammed in there; also, can't shop w/o bumping into other shoppers. 2. Manager (I assume - young adult with dark hair named Kay) speaks down to the employees. Both times that we have visited, I left feeling sorry for the poor workers there b/c of the way this lady spoke to them - very degrading. This last trip on Saturday afternoon, I witnessed 2 young ladies & a young man be chastised in front of everyone (behind the counter). I'm not sure if the mgr is trying to make an example of them, but they seemed blown away by her ugliness (don't blame them). My final answer: go to the Matthews Plato's closet or find somewhere else to shop. The bargains aren't worth the drama that this lady brings to the store. This place just opened up and the staff is warm and friendly. The place is designed for teenagers and twentysomethings. If you have younger tastes then by all means go ahead. (Note to Yelpers. They do not take any clothing that has been altered! Even if you paid a lot of money to have the original AG Jeans hem resewn back on they will pass on it. Also remember that this is a business transaction. You should not be emotionally attached to your clothing. The best way to get the most amount of money for your clothes is to wash them, fold them neatly and bring them in boxes. This will speed up the process and you will get processed quicker.) They are looking for only the latest in trends, something within the last 18 months then you are good to go. Otherwise try another consignment shop, ebay or donate. They need men's clothing. This is by far the best Platos Closet I have been to! The customer service was very friendly and not condescending. They don't have the biggest selection of clothes but I saw some very nice things such as J. Crew etc... The best deals I saw were in the denim section. I did sell some clothes during that visit and got $20 which I was pleased with. I would recommend this Platos Closet to anyone looking for some thrifty deals. read more

I've been here twice and they are just a GIANT PAIN to deal with. I've opted to never go back. The first time I went, I had a pair of Steve Madden boots that I had only worn once and originally paid $200 for. The girl wouldn't take it because it was "out of season". Boots are boots are boots! The second time I went, I had Lucky Brand Jeans that still had BOTH tags on them. We're talking about $100 jeans a pop people. The girl who took the clothes wanted to give me more on them, but she had to get authorization from her manager. I watched her tell her manager how much Lukcy Brand Jeans cost and how it was amazing they still had the tag on them. Her manager told her to give me $18. They're probably selling those same jeans for $50+! This place is such a rip-off. Never again. read more

Customer service is poor, I called to ask if an item that had been on hold all day had been picked up and the employee who answered the phone by the name of Marla, said it had not. When I asked if I could place it on hold tomorrow she said they could not hold items over night which is understandable. I asked if I called in the morning could they put it on hold for me and she replied I guess and proceeded I hang up. Shopped this location for the first time the other day and this place is awesome! The store is kind of small but it's a cute place. The workers were super friendly and extremely helpful. They came up to me to make sure I was doing okay and told me about the clearance sales going on. I probably spent almost an hour trying on clothes and every time there was a worker asking me if I was still doing okay. I ended up buying 10 clearance items and saved $70! They even convinced me to come back in and sell. read more

Went in the other day to try and sell some clothes. A girl with long blonde hair wearing a really skimpy and unprofessional in my opinion, outfit--- went through my clothes. She was laughing the entire time and to busy messing with her other coworkers to hurry with my clothes. She kept asking another coworker the entire time if she should take my stuff or not, which made me feel really unwelcome and uncomfortable. When she FINALLY called me to the front she told me she could only offer me like four bucks and when I asked her why she couldn't take my clothes-- i had a ton of crop tops in the bags and she was wearing one-- she kept looking at her coworker and telling me these BS reasons why she was going to have to pass on my clothes. The least she could have done was be professional about it. Not going back and telling my friends how rude these girls are! read more

This store is ridiculous. The staff seems friendly at first but i constantly see them talking to each other or friends instead of working. And they really seem to not care at all. They say they don't take clothes with stains or of certain brands but when I look around the store I see plenty with stains or of brands they wouldn't buy from me. Not to mention, a lot of their shoes usually look very worn. And the whole "in-style" thing is just stupid. I just want to buy nice looking clothes for cheap but I can never find anything. It's all a bunch of weird styles. Also, I recently took in a pair of shorts from American Eagle and they wouldn't accept them because it looked like I had cut them myself. Um, hello! I love Plato's Closet! I bring my 15 year old daughter in the store at least once a month and she always finds great deals! Today when I was in the store I was not so please with the manager (or so I assumed that's what she was by the way she was using her authority). An employee with black and brown hair continued to tell the employees what to do when they were already busy and she was not. I felt sorry for all the employees. Because you could tell they were working as hard as they could but she continued to boss them around. Something needs to be done about this manager. She is taking her authority to a whole different level and the employees are being treated poorly. The scene that I witnessed today was unacceptable. read more
