Rude untrained staff. I have found more cozy charming people and clothes at Red Racks. If you have kinda expensive taste (Macys/Dillards) in clothes don't come here. They won't buy your quality clothes either. They want your cheap stuff. Go to *Buffalo Exchange* Let's talk about rude; I mean to say that what comes out of their mouths is rude. I had a ton of super cute expensive stuff, a lot with tags that looked exactly like the stuff they have in the store for sale. Charlie hustle shirts, cute summer dresses, t shirts, all seasonally relevant (summer), swim suits with tags, and they took a hat and three used bras. What a waste of time when I took the time to carefully launder and fold everything and organized it by style in a suitcase. They said it was too "mature" for them. I am in my thirties but have a very young style and I am very small. I get they can't take everything but mad I wasted my time with this. Will just donate next time or give away. read more

My girlfriend and I came in with all of our clothes that we decided we wanted to sell rather than donate, giving them our business, I checked in and we gave them our clothes for an estimate, so we decided to shop, I bought a pair of shoes, and my girlfriend was trying on clothes when out of the blue, the manager told us to get our stuff and leave, saying we were trying to "ruse" them by shopping even after I had bought something. We were going to pay for all of the clothes I had picked out. She said we were running around the store, so I told her we were just excited about finding clothes we like. They are very rude, not one employee was polite, they act like they hate their jobs and it shows. I do not recommend taking your clothes up there to sell. They have very poor customer service and are very judgmental, they were talking about us behind our backs. It was just unbelievable. NEVER GOING BACK!!!!! read more

Do yourself a favor and go to a different Plato's closet or a different establishment where you can sell your clothes. The staff is so disrespectful and belittle you. They're not welcoming or nice, I've been selling my clothes to Plato's closet for a while now and was not aware that they no longer text you (might be cause of Covid?) and when speaking with the lady upon arriving, she told me this so I asked how long I could keep my clothes there as I had a meeting to run to (I used to be able to come pick up my clothes later in the day) she got mad I was not staying and without making eye contact with me She very disrespectfully dismissed me and did not answer my question so I had to push my meeting. She had long, white hair and was longer. Don't work at an establishment that you need to greet costumers and socialize with them if you're not willing to be nice or at least respectful. read more

Plato's Closet is a love/hate relationship depending on what perspective you're looking at the store from. They recently moved just a few buildings down from their former location to a much bigger store. The place is jammed packed full of trendy, used clothes. I love shopping here and looking through all the dresses. I can usually find a dress for about $8- $10 dollars, jeans are usually about $10-$12, shirts can range anywhere from $5 to $12. The store is definitely targeted towards a 12 to 18 year old crowd. I always hate it when my parents use this term, but "teeny-bopper" describes the target audience perfectly. The past few times I've been here, the girl employees have been dressed in really short shorts. Cover up your employees more, please. This isn't a Hooter's. Trying to sell to them is a waste of time. Your items have to be elite name brand, in great condition, and no more than a year old. I tried to sell some perfectly fine items, but because they were bought a few year prior, they wouldn't except them. I enjoy browsing through Plato's Closet every now and then and finding some great items at a reasonable price. read more

This is one of my all time favorite places to shop. If you expect an department store you shouldn't be going here anyways. It is a consignment store so yes you have to search for things and I think that's part of the fun. I have gotten literally like half of my closet here. I'd never been into a Plato's closet, and decided, since i'm on the lookout for a cute dress, I was going to check it out. I was in the area. I kind of figured it was geared to teenagers. Opened up the doors to racks of jeans, that I didn't even bother with. one glance, and I figured one needs to be a size 0 with the lowest rise waist band that you can stand. It's fine, thought I, I'd not buy this brand of jeans ever. Cut to the chase. They have Vera Bradley purses, and Guess handbags, and THESE aren't knock offs...my favorite phrase: I don't buy knock offs. Quick glance at the shoes, frankly I wasn't the least bit interested in their shoes. So the rest of the merchandise, the dresses, and sweaters and tunics is what I was shopping for. I lucked out, cause there was plenty of choices in my size,and I'm not a size 0. I do love the pink and black punk glam pin up girl style dresses, like Retro Vixen carries. I went right over to the dresses, and the first one I found in my size (possible the only in my size) was a black cutie with white with white end of days skulls, trimmed with a purple crinoline slip....and holy cow the dress fit and I bought it for $8.00. It's by Sour Puss. It's a pin up girl dress. I found the website later, and saw the dresses are above $50. While there were plenty of fitting rooms, I didn't care for the desk staff who totally turner her back to the customers wanting assistance. That is why I knocked them down a star. I would'n't care to do business with them by trying to sell them any of my Vera bradley purses. They seemed a bit snobbish. I intend to shop there again, and have a closer look at their dresses. Not every Plato's Closet to I walk out of with things I purchased and not every location to I turn right back around and return to the store to ask the staff for opinions - I did both here! The selection for men was perhaps one of the largest I've ever seen at any location. The quality of the men's clothes that I looked at was incredible as was the way they put out some special areas for special brand names. I found some incredible jeans, Vans, and even a few shirts - my friend did even better than I did! To top it all off - the staff was amazing! read more

Much bigger and cleaner than the one in Mission. My daughter loves shopping at Plato's Closet. Glad we ran across this one while in Lee's Summit. Huge selection of clothing that appeals to these kids today- not particularly well made, but trendy and from brands and stores considered 'cool.' God I sound old writing this. Good price points too- we just got 2 pairs of shorts & a tank top for under $18. Looks like a lot of girls brought in their prom clothes to re-sell, because their selection of fancy dresses and heels is HUGE!!! Nice staff- greeted us when we came in. This is the worst store to sell clothes at. You could bring a suitcase full of clothes here and walk out with the same amount that you came in with minus two items. They will try to find everything wrong with your clothing so they don't have to take them yet they have stained clothes hanging up in their store. I'm wondering if they buy those clothes with stains on them or hang them back up without cleaning them? You guess. They will also tell you that your clothes are outdated yet they have the same clothes from six years ago hanging up on the walls. I have had one experience at this place, they bought quite a few of my clothes and they had one of the best selections of clothes to buy compared to the other Plato's around the metro. It didn't take more than an hour to get my clothes back. I will definitely return there to buy and sell clothes. read more

We have four kids...all either tweens or teens. This store allows me to be superhero mom and let my kids have a happy little shopping spree for next to nothing. With clearance rack deals there is so much to offer. The shoe selection is off the charts which my daughter loves. Recently she purchased a pair of Sperry boots, coach canvas flats, and a pair of Nikes all of which were barely used and beyond economical. My boys and husband all clean up in this store. Jeans, goodies, shoes, belts, and a huge selection of name brand shirts. I can't wear juniors clothing but oh if I could! I usually find shoes, scarves, and purses! Coach, D&B, Kors, Guess, etc... These employees take pride in the organization of their store and are on hand to provide access to the dressing rooms or help find a certain look. We love this store...can't get enough! read more

Much like the other reviewers I'd like to say the lees summit location is not the one to sell at. I went in with a laundry basket of things and they just looked at the top and said they didn't want any. Must say, they missed out on the sperry's and Victoria secret sweat shirts. First, they don't have a bathroom and the closest one is at Starbucks across the street. The store is unorganized and the layout makes absolutely no sense. The store looks messy and it's dark. They were not nice and when they gave me the clothes they passed on back, all they gave me was a tag with my name on it and my cash. I also got one item and they didn't even bother putting it in a bag. The workers never talked to me while I was looking on the floor. The only two people I did talk to seemed uninterested in any of my questions I had and they did not ask if I needed help finding anything. They did not tell me why they passed on my clothes or why they bought the clothes that they bought. This is the worst Plato's closet I've ever been to and I've been to A TON. I also used to work for a Plato's closet and this one needs some work. I would be embarrassed to work there. I won't ever come back here. read more

Since my last update in 2010, my opinion of Plato's consignment has changed. Since they increased their store size, I truly believe their quality in clothing has increased and they now have a equal selection in sizes. I am now a regular shopper at the Lee Summit location. I have found great items like, Betsey Johnson, Bebe, and BCBG all at great prices. On average I am a size 10, and I can easily find clothes in my size now. read more

Plato's closet is a hit or miss place, but this location is a standout, they price items realistically, they will not pass on buying quality items. Some reviewers are butthurt that they didn't get a million dollars for clothes that are 10 years old, and that's not how this place works. They will buy current items, and it shows in their inventory because you don't have to waste time sorting through a bunch of junk they bought so someone's feelings didn't get hurt. Let's start on a good note, last Saturday April 23rd the three employees (not the manager) were nice and very helpful. Lady at the front desk short short hair with blonde on top was super sweet. Lady running the dressing rooms, very helpful and kind was on top of her stuff. The lady putting everything away, dark shoulder length hair was wearing dark lipstick, didn't speak much seemed quiet but was helpful. However the manager spoke in a sassy tone, did not make eye contact and was snippy with employees. About halfway into shopping my friend and I had to use the bathroom, and let the lady know that was running the dressing room know that we were going to go across the street to use the bathroom (we let her know because we had a lot of items we had already tried on behind the counter for us to buy, didn't want them to think we were leaving). While speaking to this employee about going across to Wendy's the manager let us know it was closed, went on to inform us in a snide tone that it had been closed for over a year, we said oh ok... Sorry we don't come to this area often, we will go to Starbucks we will be back. About 1.5 hrs later She made a correction remark to a employee while we were checking out and by the way the employee reacted (shy, looked down and away, and walked off quietly avoiding manager) told me that that is a common occurrence, was unimpressed by this. read more

Terrible customer service here. Employees are very rude. I have stopped in twice and both times I was told they started the day 2 hours behind and would not be able to look through my items. First time I was there 90 minutes before close, second time I was there it was 150 minutes until close. Rude entitled employees need to wake up and realize they work at a second hand store. Stop turning customers away. And stop with the 2 hours behind excuse! I read similar reviews almost identical to my story. This is an ongoing issue and needs to be resolved. Just shopped here for the first time with my 7 kids and was looking forward to return trips. Great selection and prices but the attitude of the employees will keep me from ever going back. They were very unfriendly and we were treated like shoplifters the entire time. I did not appreciate the suspicion and cold shoulder we received while trying on clothes. If you are looking for lower level clothing like American Eagle, Hollister, and VS Pink, then this is your place. They advertise "name brand" but they need to reword that. I brought in True Religion jeans, Coach hats, BCBG, Burberry, Versace and Abercrombie...which is still a mix of label brands and they only took an Abercrombie dress and an off brand tee that I had for $6. I paid $100 for the Abercrombie dress just last season. As I looked around they didn't have anything "stylish", which is what they are advertising. I entered the store to sell some items of clothing. The girl that was doing the buying was very rude and hateful. She then was talking with another employee about a previous customer. I could not believe they were bad mouthing a customer in front of other customers. When I returned to see if they wanted any of the items I requested to speak with the Manager. The Manager was the other employee that was bad mouthing the previous customer. I was totally shocked. I informed her that I did not think that was appropriate behavior and also informed her of how rude the other employee was to us. I will never return to this store! read more

I am a mom of a teenager. She loves this store. I don't. I think there is too much stuff to choose from. You could spend hundreds of dollars here. Things are priced too high. Sometimes you can find cheaper, new clothes on sale at places such as Rue 21 or JcPenney or some of the mall stores. My daughter finds stuff she wants and then I look it over. Several times I have found holes in the clothes and one time we actually bought something with a hole in it. Also, she had some shoes picked out once and the heal was broken. I don't think they look over the clothes well enough to begin with. I know used clothing stores that are very careful about what they take and look over everything very well for stains, holes, etc. They have so much stuff at Platos that they could not go through every last piece checking it on a day to day basis. But when they first get the stuff in before they buy it from someone they should check it more closely especially with the prices they put on stuff. It is outrageous. They would probably have a bigger turnover and sell more stuff if they sold stuff at a cheaper price. read more

I brought in about 50 items to sell. All of my clothes where clean and pressed on hangers. The lady at the front desk just glanced and flipped through them after about 15 minutes because she had other customers to wait on. When she called my name, she told me that she only wanted to buy 4 items. The clothes in the store were a lot worse than mine. They were not pressed. While I waited for 15 minutes, I had time to look around and price items of the same quality and style, but she did not want any of mine. I also took in several purses that were awesome and used maybe once or twice. She wasn't interested in them. My daughter and I were very disappointed. Don't think we will waste our time here again. I used to have a children's consignment store when I lived in Omaha before moving to Kansas City, so I wouldn't take them any items that I don't think they could sell.
