I AM SO ANGRY!!!!! Whoever the head lead manager or owner if of this store needs to contact me immediately. This has been happening for years. GET NEW WORKERS WHO WANT TO WORK. Never had a good experience here. Very hard to come across a good worker. Not to mention, when I get my clothes back you can tell they don't properly look through them, they just toss the clothes around to make it look like they went through everything. Told me it would take 30-40min but were done in 10min which spoke in itself. My clothes were brand new with tags on them but told me it was because of "wear and tear" that they couldn't accept anything. I had to basically force a worker to look through the clothes infront of me and she magically bought three shirts from me. I shouldn't have to do that to make sure my clothes are being properly looked through. It's not fair to waste my time and yours. The only time I got something bought from me was when I noticed the head manager was in store. If you don't want to work just say that!!! There's a girl there with curly hair that seems to be there a lot and EVERY TIME she's there, none of my clothes are properly looked through. I'm super tired of them saying they're accepting clothes but not looking through them at all and accepting nothing!!! This has been happening for years now and it's always the same worker that's been in that store. I hope w my description the head manager can filter through it. This is unacceptable and the worst Plato's closet EVER. When I get the name of the worker I will update or post another review. I'm tired of this happening!!!!! They give you a little bit of money for name brand and or new items. I recently got $22 for 4 crossbody Steve Madden purses. They were practically brand new. There were also 3 pair of brand new never worn sandals that I purchased off the Amazon site that were in my basket. They cost me $13 a piece. I will never go there again. read more

This is a horrible thrift store with higher than thrift store prices! With 3 clerks there two must discuss their hair while one maybe picks up so Inventory off of floor, who knows. Just so you can breathe easy, the one with the half reddish died hair has been there so long she does nor care. It is obvious this is her feelings. Attempting to get an answer to any question is asking far too much. And after having other people be check out before you just give up. When you state you do not want something don't worry no one is paying any attention to you. There is so much f the girls to talk about. I must admit my purchase was my fault. I should have just left items on counter and walked out but.... I did not even get to the exit door before wanting to question return policy again. Well the girl that was taking the place of the two chatty girls did answer said not a problem as long as you have the receipt and tags and the return is within 7 days. Well I have not gotten 10 feet away. Well seems seems the return policy is then different you can not return shoes bags or accessories, which is what was purchased. After much debate I was told I could try to come back when a manager that could do returns MIGHT be there I explained I live three hours and made a horrible mistake. Girls said she was only a day manager and can not do returns, there is no one for girls to call if they have a question, I highly doubt they would put themselves out to attempt to call. Also you can not leave items there for them to resell or throw out, seems you have to go 7 miles away when questioned she said 7 minutes either is a little ridiculous. As a previously owned retailer: not a good choice. As a thrift store: not a good choice. ANY ValueVillage; Goodwill; Salvation Army; church thrift is a far better choice you will find in the above stated locations clean items, cleaner store and likely friendlier staff and customers. I have never felt so unwelcome in a store. If you don't fit the "instagram" aesthetic that they hire you'll be treated like shit. Everyone has an attitude and no time for you. I brought in a bag to sell and they didn't even bother removing all of the items or fully unfolding them to look at them. I worked at Plato's Chesapeake so I know what the buying process should look like. I will never come back to this place which is extremely sad as plato's has always been a personal favorite. read more

They never take any of my items and when they do they offer you so little when you know they are going to sell it for double or even triple the price. I always bring good, clean, and nice brand items and I always get denied. Like there is no way I always bring 1-2 big bags of clothes and they can never take anything and when you walk around and see what they have on the shelves the clothes they have up looks like they had to fight a homeless person for them. Overcrowded location, everything in the store is kind of a tight fit. It's dark inside, so you definitely feel the used and abused clothes vibe. I've sold with multiple Plato's closets before & this hasn't been my favorite to say the least. The employees had the hardest time replacing the receipt paper and getting mine to print out to the point she finished looking through my bags by the time it printed. They took some items for a couple dollars each, but I was focused on getting rid of things so I let them have it. The employees were sweet and verbal when it came to things like the wait and the machine not working. Wish there were others in the area because I feel like this one is over saturated. Also, I do NOT like their new check in system that's done on your personal phone rather than the tablet. It's takes up even more time! Had thoughts on what if the phone service was trash or the customer didn't even have a phone. read more

So first off when I walked in and said hi to the associate she didn't even respond, just walked over and told me she needed my ID. From looking behind the counter I could see they didn't have much else to look at and knew the process would be quick, but it wasn't even 3 minutes later and I received a text saying my stuff was done. There's no way they even actually took any of it out of the tote to see what it was. I took in about 16 items that are in good used condition, on trend, and in season, and name brands like billabong, Levi's, American eagle, etc. a different associate who was slightly more friendly told me that they could only accept one thing bc the rest "weren't on trend". Really not sure what they think is on trend since walking around and looking through the store I saw very similar items. On top of that some of the clothes they have for sale are just really cheap brands. I really wasn't expecting to make a ton of money because I'm aware they still have to make a profit but seriously? Don't waste your time or gas money read more

This place really sucks now, it use to be very good. All the clothes sizes are so wrong, large is like a medium, medium is like a small. The Clothes options have gotten horrible, they seem like they don't care what they put out anymore. The staff are mostly stuck up younger teens who seem to not really care about there job at all. read more

I will not be back to this location of platos closet and I am highly considering contacting the owner of this store over the experience I had today. I took in 4 boxes worth of purses, shoes and bags to donate. When I arrived they told me the price they would give for 14 items. I had a brand new purse with tags still attached, so the price they were offering for my items was a little low. So, I declined and asked for my items back. When I asked for my items back an employee said "You can't have your items back the cashier already cashed you out" to which I responded "I haven't received the cash yet, no money has been handed to me I would like my stuff back" the I went back and forth with this employee trying to get my items back. She finally responded "I am not dealing with these people today" (referring to me and said directly at me). I said "really? This is how you treat your customers?" To which her response was "Yes it is because you're trying to get smart with me." I finally got my items back, spoke with the manager who was understanding and said "really? She said that to you?" Yes, yes she did, and she does not need to be working here or in customer service. I will not be doing business here and will be purchasing clothing and selling my others elsewhere and I advise you do the same. read more

I feel if your hiring young adults teach them how to show customer service...... they don't smile, they don't seem eager or happy to help you, they don't greet you when you come in, they don't make eye contact, they literally look miserable to be working there or asked to do anything ...... idk if it's the poor management or what but somethings seriously wrong.. read more

Gave them two big bags of clothing, they were understaffed so they weren't buying clothes until two days after I brought my bags there. I wait for about a week and never got a text to pick clothes up. I go into the store to see if my bags were ready and they were not in the store. The worker told me that my name wasn't on any bags. She said that they donated the clothes that weren't picked up after 1 week. I told her that I never got a message that my clothes were ready to be picked up. She wasn't helpful at all and told me that she would tell her manager and that the manager would give me a call. Waited a few days, no call. This is a very unorganized and shady store and I will never be returning again. read more

I have sold my clothes here plenty of times and although they don't take everything which I don't expect them to, it has usually been worth my time and they have pretty trendy items that are priced fairly I feel especially for the items not looking dingy and smelly like you find at the local goodwills and what not. However occasionally some items I do think are priced a little high but if they are still there by the sale dates and are put on clearance they'd be worth it. Plus I feel most of the staff is pretty friendly and efficient. read more

I walked in with clothes to trade in with a good attitude and one of the employees that helped me didn't smile ONCE....I was more than nice thinking maybe she was having a bad day. When I got my clothes back they were just thrown in the bucket I had folded nicely. She again didn't even smile or seem to care. I'm sorry, sometimes I hate my job too but I still smile. Took 3 bags of clothes to try and sell to them. They took 1 item total! I asked what was wrong with the other clothes and the girl said they were worn and out dated. Most of the clothes were women's dresses that were worn maybe once. The men's shorts were almost new. The clothes my husband and I saw hanging for sale were more worn than what I took in. What a waste of time for $2.88! Don't try and take your clothes there not worth waiting 1/2 to have them checked in to be returned. read more

I was in desperate need of a denim jacket for New Year's eve and I knew if I went to a mall or even a retail store, it would cost me more, so I went to Plato's Closet and I found a rack full of just denim jackets for ONLY 12$!! I was stunned I also grabbed a trendy pinky furry vest that was also on sale for such a great price. The staff was very helpful and patient. The place is beyond organized by color and size. Honestly Platos's has a great service. I will definitely be going back to Plato's Closet again. read more

So, four years ago I wrote a review on this same place and alas the disappointment is still there. Took in some clothes to see what they would say, and did some shopping while I waited. I found two things, and that was it. I picked up a DryTek pullover, was considering getting it for hiking purposes. I'm standing there and I'm smelling B.O. real bad, and I know it's not coming from me. I bend down and it was the pullover. This was not a quick wash fix, it should have gone into the trash. It smelt like someone was walking the A.T. for 6 months while wearing this shirt! . I looked around at the clothes found few t shirts from Walmart and Target marked as much as they would be new (not in new condition). I found shirts with holes, faded images, food stains, pilling sweaters etc. The store itself was a mess, clothes were marked piled in totes along the walls, the door to the storage room was open and clothes were everywhere, on the floor, totes, bags, boxes totally uncared for. Needless to say none of my clothes could be taken because of wear (false), older than 12 month(?) and because they had no room (truth). I had clothes and jeans from American Eagle, rue21, Charlotte Ruse, etc.. My clothes had no holes, no stains, no pilling and holy shit they did not stink! Maybe that's why they weren't accepted, because they were clothes in perfect condition. Went to the goodwill a few hours later, clothes in better condition and I donated all my stuff there. So if you are a size small or xs, some fabulous clothes will be on their racks soon! read more

Disgusting establishment. Customer service was the worst, rude, and holier than thou attitudes from every employee in here when I asked a question. Stopped by to pick up a dress before a family reunion in New Jersey and couldn't find a single dress that didn't smell like a lit cigarette or body odor. By far the most unhygienic and dirty smelling clothing store I've ever encountered. Chewing gum litters the floor, wads of hair in the clothes on tags, overpriced, dirty clothing. I found jeans I thought were nice and when I went to try them on there was blood on the inside! GROSS! I can't believe this store has managed to remain open at all. I've never had a great experience here. Actually, their old location was better, in my opinion, but that's neither here nor there. The review is for this location. First, the smell inside the store is not pleasant. Not sure if its a heavy spray of Febreeze or something like that,, like they're trying to cover up some other smell. As far as their clothing selection goes, it's very much geared toward very young teenagers, think 12-15. Small sizes, fad-styles, nothing of great quality. Occasionally, I've found some higher end things, like Michael Kors sandals or a a Kate Spade skirt, but for the most part its stuff you'd find on a clearance rack at Forever 21, and the prices are the same if not higher than what you'd buy it for in store regularly. Also, their buying policy is strange and not at all consistent. I've sold to them before (at the old location), but haven't had a single thing taken since they've moved. They have signage out saying what they are looking for at the time, for example, denim or coats, but will give vague reasons for not taking things that are brought in that fit the description. "Not appealing", or "doesn't sell well" or "has some wear". Well, yes, you're buying used clothing. It will have some wear. However, I've been told that clothing that has been literally worn once has too much wear to be bought. Staff hasn't been overly friendly either, not helpful when in the store, or seem to be annoyed when you ask for help. read more

After reading the reviews, I was skeptical about going in! Blood in jeans, gum on the floor, hair on clothes, I didn't see any of that! I saw the pictures about price tags on items being more than the original price... just know, they use a computer system to price items... it's not the actual employees that price, they just go with the information presented on the screen. I will say, you must try this location for yourself. I took in two bags of items that I just no longer needed and quite frankly, I was too lazy to list them on eBay myself. The store wasn't too busy and I was given a quote time of 25 minutes, not bad at all! I revived a text in my quoted time frame that my buy was ready. Yeah... didn't want to stay there for hours. I went back and made a quick $90...not bad... Helped me clean out my closet and make a few extra bucks... and saved me time from writing a description, measuring and taking pictures to sell the items myself. Know you aren't going to make a ton off each item...but it's something, more than what I had when I waked in. The gentleman that went through my items was very pleasant and I didn't have any issues. They did have a sale going on... 70% off clearance items and he let me know that this weekend, there would be another sale on this same sale items at 90% off. If you need a Halloween costume, this is the place. They had a selection up front for sale and the prices are quite reasonable with the sale discount. Go, try for yourself... Unfortunately as a store that buys second hand clothing, this one seems to be a terrible one. I tried selling clothing i had just bought not a month ago and that was right off the shelf of hot topic and spencers. I had one of those change of lifestyle switches and wanted to get rid of them. I had also picked out clothing i thought would fit to their liking which was newer and not damaged and bright and clean. All in all it was about 25 shirts and 3 shorts. Note: I am a Male. I had gone in and gave them the clothing and they said it would be an hour to check em out. Sure enough i came back hoping to have maybe 20 dollars if any. They decided to take the 5 shirts i had bought within hottopic and gave me the rest back and gave me an astonishing 3 dollars and said these exact words .. "these clothes aren't appealing". I then proceeded to ask the 16 year old girl dressed up in extremely short shorts and barely a shirt how it was "not appealing". Of course she then told me "We dont like clothing like this"...of course i told her i had just purchased these from hottopic less then a month ago. Before she could answer I pointed to a poster behind her and it says clearly "We buy back shirts and accesories from such great stores such as Hottopic, Spencers, Papaya, Charlotte Rouse, etc." She of course felt like the jackass she truly was and was willing to re look at them...Naw. Its not worth the extra time to try to convince you what your store supposedly specializes in. The fact that they say they will buy back certain things and not go through with it because it doesnt fit the likings of some dumb dipshit doesnt mean the customers must suffer. If you guys want to grow and maybe even get some good customers in...Accept Boys/Mens Wear just as much as the womens, and dont let inexperienced employees man your department of buying back 2nd hand clothing. Maybe I'm just not hip because I never found it cool to wear used clothing. Hand me downs are one thing I suppose, you have no choice... but on purpose? Gross. This place gets lots of traffic so I needed to take a look inside. OK so they do have name brands.. but it's still expensive. They aren't trashed clothes, they look pretty new so I see the appeal. I like Plato's Closet for their jeans, jackets and sweater sales. It's all youthful/high school other than that - which is great if you're a little younger than me. -The pricing can be inconsistent. I've seen same pair of shoes on the same rack, same condition but with $10 price difference. - The customer service is consistently awful. I can't even begin to describe it. I always have a hard time getting their attention to get in a dressing room or check out (even if 4 of them talking together have clearly made eye contact with me). Every single time. read more

Plato's is in a strip mall in Central Park, near the McDonald's/Panera/Wal-Mart end. They've packed an astonishing amount of product in a smart way into a medium-sized space, so this is a great place to kill some serious time. The clothing tends to be in very good condition, varying from like new to worn, but serviceable. One high point is the extensive collection of shoes that are spaced - gasp! - by size. Most clothing is separated by type, i.e. tank tops, skirts, leggings. This makes it easy to dive in your favorite area. There's also a good selection of XS and XL clothing, as well as accessories including costume jewelry. I agree with the other reviews that this place tends towards the trendy/young, like Forever 21. This is great if you like those types of stores anyway, but the downside is that these stores sometimes sell similar clothes new for a similar price. The shoes seemed priced at the high end - the same shoes I saw at Target last year are now 10-15 dollars, which isn't a huge discount. All in all, a huge selection and if you have the patience to sort through a somewhat packed store, you're bound to find something you like. I'll definitely be stopping in again. read more

I love vintage / thrift / consignment shops and this one has tons of name brands. They are VERY picky what they take. Their prices are awfully high for used clothes and sometimes I get better prices of new stuff at Hollister that is on sale so keep that in mind. If you are selling them clothing they will give you very little and then sell it for a whole lot more... granted they are a business so they are in it to make $ but it's really a rip off. This place gets very busy and lots of styles are more geared to teen trends, but there are some nice adult items and purses as well. Worth a look and it seems they have a lot of merchandise turnover because people are constantly bringing in clothing to sell. read more

Terrible experience!!! The store smelled like b.o. which is probably because all the clothes looked extremely old and dirty. Everything seemed to be cheap clothes (Charlotte Russe, Papaya) which you could get new at the mall for basically the same price. They refused to buy my brand new high end clothes (Ralph Lauren Polo) because they said they don't sell well, which may be because those looking for nice articles of clothing know better than to stop in to this Plato's location. I have always had luck buying and selling at other Plato's locations where I found the items to be in nice quality, but I would only shop at central park Plato's if I was praying for a case of crabs. read more

I visited to check this place out and see what they would offer to buy some of my clothes. I brought in a pair of designer pants with the price tag still attached of $218. They only took 1 pair of jeans that had defects and gave me $5 for them. The women's clothing is so destroyed and doesn't look very clean. The staff is pretty rude and I've read horrible yahoo reviews about them taking/or misplacing clothes when people drop off things to get considered. I'm giving 3 stars because my bf always finds good stuff. read more

Good organization of clothing. Fair, but plentiful and even impressive, albeit at times $$$, display of footwear. Plato's Closet carries a decent inventory of womens and men's clothing. Could use more in the way of accessories and custom jewelry. Seems to cater more to the younger generations. I am mid-50 range but appreciate the good customer service and that I was able to find a few items to purchase. I will probably go again at some point. read more

The place is terrible... They don't have any ripped Fashion jeans that I was looking for they're too expensive and when you try to sell them something they don't take anything especially if it doesn't have a size on it! They are too strict and all their current clothes look like rags. I had a shirt that I have the receipt for they told me that the style was too old after I just bought it from express a month ago and I show them the receipt their computer system is out of whack. Wherever they get their information from is all wrong I wouldn't buy anything from them nor sell them your clothing because they don't take anything. read more

If you are a plus sized female don't go here to sell your 'in style clothing'. I tried to sell some clothes and have been turned down. Not that big a deal. I asked the manager the final time why I was being turned down all the time because I change my wardrobe every 6 months so I wasn't sure why it was marked 'not in style". She said straight to my face it's because that size doesn't sell. An XL? Okay you have a couple sizes bigger than that that you sell but whatever. I'll make sure to let everyone that is an XL and above know that Plato's will not take your clothes or cater your size. read more

Don't ever go to this Platos, place gives me a headache right when I walk in. They literally don't give you any money or take any clothes that are in style but will take the most raggedy pieces of clothing, not the best customer service.
