I have to wonder why there are so few reviews for this place. I wish people would review it because it will surely counteract the one star reviews, all of which are quite old. I live close to the store, within walking distance, and pop in often. It's very clean well organized, and has an abundance of merchandise. The staff welcomes me in and offers to help with my selections. I find prices a bit higher than some other thrift stores, but feel that it's worth it due to its cleanliness, large selection and tidy organization. I'm a big fan! read more

Congratulations! Plato's Closet has arrived in Carson City. Technically, they've been here for a bit, I just happened by. Located in a high traffic area at Carson Mall, they have a nice sized space that's packed with gently used deals on clothes for men, women and children. They also carry plenty of accessories. The cost on most things is pretty reasonable for resale. It's not brand new and the quality is above that of the donation driven shops. You can even bring your items-to-sell here. Catch some of my photos and you'll see that they are well organized. There truly is something for everyone in here. I briefly spoke to the cashiers and they are all super friendly and a couple even pointed out where to look for things. Quite honestly, that wasn't necessary. When shopping gently used/secondhand/thrifting there is usually a sprinkle of chaos and clutter, there was none here. The store is very organized and clean. Great variety of styles. If you want to trade for cash I'd show up when they open or call ahead of time. Trade for credit anytime, found out they are starting a new special "Trade-Up Tuesday " ask them about it:) Employees are super patient and helpful. read more

Smells very strongly of perfume which sometimes makes me feel sick and deters me from wanting to go there often or be there long. They have decent to great customer service on all the occasions I've been. I have bought quite a bit of clothing from them so I would say they have a good selection and wide variety of clothing/shoes/accessories, etc. Everything is well organized and they tend to have good music on and frequent sales which is nice. Prices are reasonable and it's not super crowded the times I have gone. They have a fair return policy and do allow you to return any items that you change your mind on or find defects in. Overall I do like this store a lot I just wish they didn't spray so much perfume or chose essential oils instead or something natural/subtle for people with sensitivities/allergies. read more

Unfortunately this establishment is poorly managed. The young women working there for high school/ college jobs is not the problem. There is no social media updates or website platforms that update you. Website and maps don't give you the correct phone numbers. When you arrive you are told to stay in the store while you're clothes are being sorted for sell/trade. Other Plato's Closets are much more efficient. I was there for over an hour with my children. The store smells highly of cheap perfume. The garments for sale are ripped/ stained/ miss managed. It's not the employees. They only excepted what was for Fall in August also for back to school with a low trade amount. It's August first. It's 100 degrees outside. I asked basic questions any employee could answer easily. What are your price points and sell/ trade estimate. Why do you only except these items today? The confusion laid in response to why sun dresses and skirts were not being accepted. There isn't a platform you can research to see what they're excepting unless you call and an employee answers. Which is tough. While in the establishment for over an hour a women who was shopping began to yell and cuss at me for asking too many questions. There wasn't a manager present or owner to come forward. My child was upset and scared. No matter what, there should be a change. Don't waste your time. You'll get the least amount for clothing. I don't blame the young employees but the manager hiding in the back during this situation has been reported to the a few owners and hopefully something changes. I own business and own my home in the area. I wasn't rude or attacking the young employees. First try at this store and I will not try again. This isn't an attack on their employees, being young they're not going to stand up to, for their safety - a delusional customer but in that sense, I wouldn't recommend going to Carson City Plato's Closet. It's not like other owned Plato's Closets which are far more advanced and personable. Asking questions as a customer is what is expected. Anyone working at any store could understand you have to answer questions regarding the confusion of selling because of the lack of information that can easily be posted on social and websites. If you'd like to visit a decent Plato's Closet I suggest Reno or somewhere else. The management there is unacceptable. I suggest an online platform to sell or roam to another city. I've heard this store in Carson was a shit show and I believe it. Hopefully the manager changes a few things up. Don't waste your time, especially if you're trying to sell decent clothing for an honest trade in value. Head over to Reno, hope this helps someone I received $30 for over an hour of standing around with a $400 max on cash at the store for trade in, which the young employee looked empathetic towards me but could not accept everything because of the manager setting rules that day. Hey gals thought I would give you my thoughts on my visit to Platos Closet to see what they have and well ....ugh. NOT a good place for mature women, not so much. Plato's has a lot of stuff, and I mean "STUFF" Like a teenagers messy closet; They mostly have Stuff for younger (young) people, so not a great place for mature women or Even Classy Teens or Young women. Mature women would be looking for Classy Casual or Dressy clothing, You WON'T find it at Plato's. On the other hand I visited "It's a Girl Thang" in North Carson, And they have a beautiful selection of well cared for clothing, just about anything you could ever want at very good prices even including some NEW items like you would find at a Department Store. It's very well laid out and is wonderfully organized, a wonderful place to go shopping if you're In the area, OR just make a trip. I suggest you take a look around this wonderful place. I wish they were closer, but well worth the drive to North Carson to look. The People are super nice people and much more professional. read more

Despite all the bad reviews, I went into the store to sell my clothing to form my own opinion. I had a wonderful experience! The two women working behind the counter were kind and helpful. They are upfront with customers about whether they can pay cash or not, and they tell you the reasons why. I was happy with the amount they offered me in store credit. I would sell there again and recommend this place to friends and family. read more

I drove to Carson City from Reno just to sell my clothes to Plato's Closet. This store is clean, quick and professional. The employees were all super nice & informative. I waited about 2 hours to have 3 bags of clothes assessed which is WAY quicker than the Reno store. They are also buying clothes at all times and taking more than one bag (unlike the Reno store.) Save yourself the trouble and head to Platos Closet in Carson City. read more

I love how most of the reviews are about how picky the employees are about choosing clothing because I've seen the most atrocious things on the shelf at the Carson location. The girls that work there always feel like your typical high school mean girl. They offer you nothing for high end clean items but then turn around and sell them for hundreds of dollars. read more

Recently, I visited Plato's Closet in Carson City and probably won't visit again. While they had a good selection of used clothing, some of the items that I looked at were dirty and stained. But even more than that, I was struck by the snobbish attitude of some of the staff. The person in question rolled her eyes at me and was quick to dismiss my inquiry. It is true that I am older than their target market customer, however, I am still a customer and should have been treated with the same courtesy as someone younger. read more
