This store has a really great selection of clothing that isn't outdated compared to the Wethersfield & Manchester's locations that I have also been to that always have a crummy selection. So it makes sense why they are so picking with what clothes they buy. The store is also GORGEOUS too and very spacious. However, I went to this store with my sister and we both had our own clothes to sell. Upon checkout even though I gave my own name & number the girl somehow checked me out under the clothes my sister sold which was only $8 for in store credit so I still had to pay upfront for the clothes I wanted to buy at Plato's and my sister's name was on the receipt. I admit I should have looked where I was signing and that it wasn't my name. And then my sister got my $35 cash for the clothes I brought it. This mixup could have easily been avoided by asking for our ID's again when checking out. read more

The older manager told me I couldn't shop at his store anymore if I write a bad review. I emailed the headquarters in Minneapolis and called them. He should not be allowed to be dishonest and mistreat customers. read more

My plan was to go to the Danbury location but I was at IKEA and realized I was very close to this location. I called and asked if they were buying and they said yes and they did not have a wait. Upon arrival with our bin we were told this location is just for teen clothing. This didn't make sense to me and my husband but it felt very discriminatory against us because we are both over 40. We felt as if the buyer took a look at us and thought we were older adults and we were going to have clothing for older people. She asked us to fill out our info on the waitlist and within a minute she was done going through an entire bin. I was told they would give me $3.50 for one purse and that was it. I have been to the Plato's closed in Danbury many times and they always buy a lot from me. I actually work as a stylist in film and television and have a lot of clothing from work that I get gifted. It was very sad to see this location behaving this way. I spent about a minute looking at what was in the store and was not impressed at all. The clothing was garbage and tasteless. It's unfortunate that the staff doesn't have a clue and is judging clothing by the customer. I was also surprised to see a person working there being this judgmental who was extremely obese. I'm not sure if it's retaliation for discrimination she had dealt with personally or what. I think the store and staff need a lot of help. read more

Brought two Ed Hardy sweatshirts there used maybe two or three times no stains look brand new. they offered me $8 for both of them. I accepted the money my fault but never again that place is a crack house. read more

Although I find some steals in this particular Plato's closet, I'm going to have to give selling to Plato's closet in general a HARD pass. Don't waste your time. This particular store is emptier compared to others in terms of merchandise, and they still won't accept your stuff. It's always some excuse about inventory. Meanwhile I noticed they resell sports bras without padding, deodorant stains on some items in store etc. I find the whole process very odd. I think all of the two stores I've been to, to drop off clothes, I've made $10. read more

I like this store and the clothing they offer, but don't recommend this location specifically for the workers. They are rude and left my basket a mess after searching through it, just felt very disrespectful and not friendly at all. I expected a lot more from customer service. read more

The employees there are extremely rude and disrespectful!! They laugh at you when you bring in items. I brought in a new pair of Sketchers and they didn't want them! I brought jeans and sweaters and they claimed that they don't take it yet I bought a couple things from there and didn't quite fit anymore! I was so disappointed with my experience at this business. My boyfriend and I live in Guilford and brought in about 9 bags of either brand new clothes with still the tag on them and/or gently used clothing. ALL name brand, everything from every season and in the best condition. We left the store and went and looked around the other stores in that plaza and when we came back,they did not want to buy one single item! I don't understand how going to advertise on your website that you buy anything and when I came back and they said that they couldn't buy anything I was totally distraught! First reason being they said "Oh, these would be hard items to sell". This really upset me because they had all Shein clothes on a rack for sale but they didn't want to buy Giorgio Armani brand new button down with the tag on it still? Or Michael Kors, Polo, Columbia, Nike, Patagonia, The North Face, Carhatt, etc. But they have no problem selling two dollar Shein clothing. What this tells me is either A, they have no money to buy nice clothes, or B, they're liars and a scam because everything they say on their website is a lie and I, letting people know this so that they don't waste their time. This is ,y first review I have ever written on a business. That's how upset I am. I'm a busy person and don't have time to post items on websites so I thought this place was going to do what they say they're known to do. "Buy gently used clothing". Never-ending top brand threads with the price tag still on them. Don't waste your time. Yes they were pretty nice but still they don't stick their standards and shouldn't even be in business if this is what they do to everyone, as I see from other people writing the same reviews. I came into this location July 7th and I will not be returning solely because of the employees and their snotty attitudes. I spent quite a while cleaning and folding clothes, and filled an entire bin to the top with both clothes and shoes. I walked in and the employee (blonde pony tail, not sure of the name) asked if I had been there before and I said I had been to Wethersfield. Her response was "well we're much more selective on what we take". Ok, whatever, I had some good stuff.. or at least I thought. While I'm still standing there and checking in, another employee (darker hair, tall) said "I hope this one is better than what we have gotten" and the blonde girls response was "doesn't look like it". I was walking around kinda watching and listening and I could hear them snickering about the items I brought in. At one point I could see the girl picking stuff up out of my bin while looking at the window and not even looking at the items!! I got a whopping $9 for a sports bra and pair of sneakers. A nice, spacious, clean store and good selection of clothes does NOT make up for snotty, rude employees. Keep your rude comments and thoughts to yourself. I would have considered coming back to shop, but after this first trip, it's my last trip. Do better. read more

This particular location, along with the one in Danbury, are my personal favorites. These two stores always seem to have hidden gems. I have found Billionaire Boys Club shirts and Lacoste. In response to what I have noticed about the workers and quality, I must agree that they ARE picky with what is accepted. Personally, I like that their options are accepted seasonally and that they usually have items available that are "in style." It prevents them from selling and overwhelming amount of clothing like many other Plato's closets, like the one in Milford. The workers here are all young, therefore they may or may not be constantly improving their customer service skills. I have never had a sour interaction with anyone here. They all are extremely friendly, funny, and seem to make their workplace a very chill environment. I've purchased most of my wardrobe from this location, and I have always left satisfied (especially with these prices) read more

Great used clothing at even greater prices! Shop sustainably and save. Staff are friendly - they buy clothing too and it's always a fast process. Clothing does tend to be more trendy styles/F21 quality, so if you're looking for antique vintage heirloom quality stuff, this isn't the place for you. Otherwise super fun and my go to shopping place! They now do online shopping too! read more

If I could put 0 starts for this SH*THOLE I would!!! I spent hours nicely organizing and folding my clothes for Plato's in good condition and cute styles, and these stuck up asshole employees did NOT even open my 2 plastic boxes or my sisters 3 boxes! We were there shopping for over 2 hours and ended up purchasing $66 of garbage just for them to tell us they were not interested in a single thing of ours even though other Plato's closets were interested in more than $90 of our treasures from the same day. THEY DID NOT LOOK AT A SINGLE ITEM, SO HOW ARE THEY TO JUDGE WHAT THE HELL KIND OF STYLES WERE IN THERE?! I would say they are extremely lazy, rude, and untrained. They purchased many items from an older mother and her daughter and turned down my sister because they assumed our clothing was not worth anything based on the first thing they saw, but they did not even look in any of our boxes, I know this because I browsed there waiting for them to search our things. They looked at other customer's items before ours which looked very similar to those that we brought. Laughing and judging customer's clothes instead of being professional. Very poor experience, would rather be dead than ever return to this location. read more

I brought in a large plastic bin filled with items purchased within the last year. Majority of them came from Kohls and TJMaxx. Several items still had labels attached to them, and two shirts were still on sale at Kohls across the street. In the end, none of the items, including $50 leggings were bought with the exception of one t-shirt. I'm a female in my 20s who regularly gets complements on my clothes... it's fine if you don't want to buy them, but giving the response of "they were just too old" is ridiculous, considering majority were new, with labels, or worn once. This store wants to buy your Patagonia for $2 and sell it for $30... at that point I'd rather donate. read more
