a pool lit up at night

The only reason I have given Platinum Pools a 5-star rating is because of one man...Buddy Harrott. Buddy is the type of person that would make any company he works for great. Buddy was respectful, responsive, courteous, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that my wife was happy with everything. His design made my wife's dream pool come true. About Platinum Pools in general, I felt that their pricing was in line with other pool companies from my research, and the quality in construction and materials is excellent. I will say that the construction process was sub-par. The project manager that we had seemed to not know the answer to questions that we had or, if he gave us an answer, it would turn out to not be true. We did not have much faith in him, so we would rely on Buddy to give us confidence throughout the process. Whether it was because of COVID and/or shortage of labor/supplies, the project was completed several months late. Aside from that, responsiveness was lacking and frustration for different reasons was a common feeling throughout the project. Platinum Pools did make sure to come out and fix any issues that came up after our pool was done. The lack of responsiveness improved at the end when changes in staff occurred. Once again, the only reason I'm giving this review 5-stars is because of Buddy. He had no business helping us with our frustrations on the lack of responsiveness on the construction side of things, but when we were not getting the service that we deemed standard, Buddy came through time and time again. One example of many includes him going out to Home Depot to buy a part, come to our house, and make a repair himself because we we had been waiting forever for it to be done. It was not his job but he happily did it anyway. That man is a gem. We need more people like him in our society. Ultimately, we are extremely happy with the finished product but I would only recommend Platinum Pools if Buddy is your pool designer & sale rep.

We love our pool designed by Sean S and Chris was our PM. Any issue we had was addressed immediately and the finished product is amazing.

3 months past contracted date and this is what is in our back yard.

We paid cash up front for our pool build. We are now 3 months past contracted completion date. Keep in mind, we've had ZERO weather delays. It's just excuse after excuse after excuse. If I could post pics of the hole in the ground, I would. Buyer beware on this company.

Our experience with Platinum Pools was amazing! After hearing horror stories from other pool owners we were really nervous, but the entire process went smooth. From our sales person, Kyle M, the construction supervisor, David B, and the support of Lynsie S and Meghann A in the office we had our every question and concern handled swiftly. David's crews were professional and highly skilled. There were small hiccups with scheduling here and there that could not be avoided (weather, illness, holidays), but those are to be expected with any project of this size. Now that the pool is done we couldn't be happier, and have already enjoyed a few polar plunges!! Excuse the mess in the pics, still working on landscaping.

We hired Platinum Pools in March 2023 to do a remodel of our pool and patio area (completed in August 2023) . From the get-go, it was an utter disaster. Here are some bullet points of issues that we had. - Cost: After signing the contract, and work already beginning, I got a call from Mike Markam (the original salesman) who said he messed up on the dimensions and is in the hole $13K and was hoping we would pay for the mistake. In good faith, we split the cost and hoped that it would be smooth sailing from there. Spoiler alert, this was only the beginning. - Sub-Contractors: The original tile and coping sub-contractor had no idea what they were doing and had to be fired and redone with a better sub; the coping had to be redone multiple times and still wasn't done very well (scratches, not polished, poorly rounded edges). - Sub-Contractors: The chipping away of the plaster took multiple efforts (I believe they had to fire the original crew and get another) which delayed getting plaster put in; Also, they didn't plug the filter properly which caused debris to get into our system and blow out our pump at startup (more to come on this). - Start-Up Fail: Once the project was done we were so excited for start up day. A platinum pool tech came out to start up our pool. When he turned the motors on they immediately blew and stopped working, this was after the tech had already dumped a bunch of chemicals into the pool that needed to be turned on to circulate so the chemicals didn't destroy the new plaster. Platinum didn't take responsibility in trying to find a solution to fix the motors. Instead, and thankfully, I have a great pool guy who was able to have someone come out and inspect and install new motors. He found that during construction, Platinum didn't plug the piping so debris got into the pipes and when the cement/rocks came through the system they blew a hole through the straining baskets, hitting the motor, and breaking it. Something so simple that could have been prevented but Platinum was so inexperienced it wasn't a surprise at this point in time. Side note, Platinum did pay for the repair and new motor given it was 100% their fault and thankfully our plaster was OK, or at least it hasn't shown any issues thus far.... - Outdoor Shower Fail: One of our #1 requirements for our renovation was to have a fully functional outdoor shower; the subcontractor they used was a subpar plumber who had no idea how to install a shower; not only that, Platinum backed off supporting this part of the project because they didn't want to have to spend anymore money to make it right. We did end up with a shower but aesthetically it doesn't look right and just wasn't done to our standards. - Decking Issues Within 1st Year: The decking subcontractor that Platinum used seemed competent and good, however, the direction that Platinum gave them was completely incorrect on a few aspects. o We are absolutely not happy with end product. The decking is only 8 months old, we've got cracks everywhere and the mastic looks horrendous (see pictures). o We had to be on top of Platinum and the sub to ensure we had proper drainage. Platinum clearly wanted to cut corners to save costs but we had to constantly ensure and work with the sub to make sure the drains were installed in the right locations and properly. o Platinum put in drainage caps that didn't match the color of the decking that we told them we wanted and told us that painting them was the solution. Anyone who has a brain knows that painting a piece of plastic that will be used outdoors will not last long...Sure enough, our drainage caps are already chipping not even a year later. - Timing: Per the contract, project was to be completed within 60 days (2 months), it took almost 5 months (started in March 2023; ended August 2023). By the end of the project everyone to the top at Platinum was aware of the issues that we had. Clay and Josh offered to fix our patio but we weren't willing to go through 2+ weeks more construction. By this point we were over it. I requested Mike Church to pay a visit to see his work but was told he was aware and was sorry for everything. Overall, we do have a really nice pool, it's the surrounding patio and shower areas that look terrible. A few things I would have wished we done differently: 1. Asked for a more experienced project manager at the beginning 2. Ripped out all old decking despite cost and started over rather than using some original sections (it would have reduced the amount of ugly joints now) 3. Pushed back on Platinum to use a proper shower sub contractor and not just a plumber or have them remove the cost and me find a company to do it 4. Signaled issues to higher ups earlier rather than towards the end of the project

13 years later and $60K on a pool once again we have 5 cracks, a deck that is falling behind the spa, no working pool lights for over 10 years and another summer with a deep unusable hole in the ground. Don't use Platinum, run as fast as you can away!! Additional bonus, the lights that have been shorted out 10+ years and we were originally charged 1635.00 for them to get them fixed is now over $5K. Also owner Scott Waldo has never reached out, what a coward. I will give them this, at least the warranty department has been attempting to fix this pool for 13 years, but really ask yourself is this what you want in a pool is to be calling a warranty dept every year or two to fix a pool?

    Pencil Jet before deck installed

Our pool was installed in 2007 and I'm still finding new things wrong with the construction. The sales person seemed very knowledgeable. And I had a simple pool design in mind: A Rectangle. Yep. I didn't want a tropical scene. We went with a 40x15 with a deep end and a 7x7 spa, flush with the pool deck. So, simple. The only feature we decided to add were "pencil jet fountains". The primary issue was a lack of oversite. Our supervisor only showed up to collect checks. He was not overseeing the construction. And the workers? Sub-contractors. In fact, some of the sub-contractors subbed the work out to sub-sub-contractors. Digging went OK, except the construction equipment destroyed the neighborhood sidewalk. If an 8x4 piece of plywood had been placed over the sidewalk, it would have been fine. Nope. Piping, Rebar and concrete seemed to go OK. And then, the pool cracked. Yep, it cracked about dead center at the 20 foot mark. At first they said everything was OK, just let the plaster fill it in. I forced them to inject repair epoxy into the crack. It was from the top of one side down to the bottom, over to the other side and up. No idea what could cause this. On to installation of the tile and coping. Some of the tile was installed upside down. The contractor was chatting with my wife in Spanish and said "Do you think they owners will notice?" Yeah. Nice. It was fixed. Then after installation of the tile and coping, I noticed "hollow" sounds tapping on the tile and coping. Let me stop here and first state that when they say "Flag Stone", they mean Sandstone. Yep Sandstone that continues to flake and dissolve 13 years later. I had them redo the tile and the coping to fix the voids behind them. But looking at the coping, it was HORRIBLE. All the pieces were mismatched. Instead of a smooth ring around the pool, all of these thick and thin pieces were mismatched around. And everything had machine marks from the cutting. On the mismatch? Oh, that is natural rock. Too bad. On the machine marks? I personally spent days with heavy duty sanders to remove the marks. I had to take time off from work. Then came the pouring of the pool deck. I looked at the square box pencil-jets and noticed they were not straight. I called our supervisor, no response. I called our sales guy, no response. I put up a sign to not pour the deck until we had these fixed. It was ignored and the deck poured with all 6 of the jets turned and twisted in various directions. They-looked-horrible! Finally, with ALL of these problems, the owner (who lives in the neighborhood!) finally came over and also could not believe all of the things that went wrong with the pool. He offered to jackhammer the deck and fix the pencil jets. That would have taken weeks, and we were already getting to summer! I agreed to covers to hide the poor installation. I should have let him fix it properly. Equipment worked OK and we got it started up. Hot tub didn't work, broken automatic valves. Then a month later, the primary pump failed. It was 1/2 hp. I did not realize they replaced it with a full 1 hp pump. My "boost pump" was only 3/4 hp...Over the years, that 1 hp pump cost me thousands of dollars in electricity costs. And I've found out that several items my sales guy pushed to include in my equipment are garbage. The only thing the Pool Frog did was give me enough space in my piping to install a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (this year). And don't get me started on the "ozone generator". Worthless junk! And the "mineral cartridges" are actually detrimental to the pool! Never add metals to your water, unless you like stains! Again, the coping has flaked and disintegrated and dropped sand and flakes into the pool. For years. And still is doing this to this day. What else is wrong? The pool light niches were not straight (screw should be right at the TOP!). The main drain is not straight. Come on, man! That should be the simplest thing to do. Well, the pencil jets were not straight either, so what should I expect... And this year? 13 years later, I was draining and refilling the pool (CYA Stabilizer block from the STUPID trichlor tablets). As I filled the pool, I noticed the flat block leading into the skimmer at one of the pool was higher than the other. They should be EXACTLY the same height. The top of the block should match with the bottom of the tile. It does at one end. At the other, they made the bottom flush with the tile. Again, a lot of this was fixed, sometimes after repeated attempts. And the pool has generally held up. Normal equipment repairs. What went well? Quartzite (Diamond Brite) plaster. Still looks good after 13 years. And the Sundek coating (Bullion Coatings) has done very well. Oh, and I have great stories to tell people about the adventure, like the crazy girlfriend/boyfriend stories we all have. Please consider any other "builder". They are not a builder. They are a design and contract out shop. And not a good one.

Gunite day!!!! Hasn't been perfect but what has been in 2020!!! Excited about swimming in early 2021

    Intial finished product

Save your money,do NOT do business with Platinum Pools. Mark the designer is great but that's where the story ends for anything positive. After paying Platinum Pools $300k for this pool build the experience has been anything but positive. The pool was completed in March of 2021 and the issues have been ongoing ever since. As of the time of this review we have been waiting 3 months for a plumber to resolve an ongoing issue with a pump that is supposed to remove water from the sitting areas. When it rains these fill up and get what you see below. The water even damaged the flooring and had to be replaced as well. When the next pump is replaced it will be the THIRD pump! The fact that a pool company has one plumber on staff is ridiculous. Again, save your money and find a pool company that follows through on delivering a good product.
