So I got to the place and it looks pretty dingy from the outside...which is fine I try not to judge a book by its cover and I have gotten my nails done at places similar and gotten a great manicure. They ask me to pick out the color from the bottle selection which is not standard for a gel manicure. Usually places have polishes swatched because the bottle tops are not always the same as the end result...kind of like ceramic paint I sit down and the guy doing my manicure has a wart looking thing on his thumb, I was 99% sure it was a wart bc I have had them before when I was younger and they are highly contagious so I was immediately grossed out but I didn't say anything right away. Because I was not touching it at all. I ask the guy if he's done almond shaped nails before ( my nails were already almond shaped and I just wanted them trimmed and reshaped to the same shape) he claims that he has so I let him continue. As you can see from the pictures....the shape is crooked for some nails and none of them are consistent in length which is my biggest pet peeve when getting a manicure. Time goes on and he places my hands right on top of the "wart" and I inched away and I said I'm sorry but I do not want to touch your wart. He tells me it's not a wart it's like a burn. So I'm like okay I'm sorry I've just had warts before and it looked like that to me. He finishes what he's doing tells me to wash my hands and I come back and he put a bandaid over it...which I appreciated but I wish gloves were used from the get go bc I'm not convinced it's a burn. He then puts the polish on and it's way too thick, I regularly get my nails done and have been trying out new places and they're never as thick as this, just not my look. AND there is little bits of thick polish UNDER my nails!!!!! Gel polish isn't easy to just scrape off??? Why would he leave polish under my nails? You can also view this in the pictures. All in all, wart aside, I think he started to rush or maybe not care after I made the wart comment but the manicure just was not good and I now am stuck with it for another 2 weeks and will have to go home and try to fix them myself so that the length at least is consistent. This is a fairly generic nail salon, no real bells or whistles and that's what I like. It is a bit worn in inside, but it's clean and the nail techs do a nice job. They can be a little curt at times moving your hands or feet around. I chalked this up to the fact that their English is not very good and it is just easier for them to physically move you where they'd like. Nail techs are best described as serious, but nice. I accidentally dented my polish as my tech was leaving and she came back to fix it. My friend said her turned out nice, but the nail tech made her bleed three times in one manicure session (reason for 3 vs 4 star). They allowed us past closing hours and took a reservation about 5 hours prior to. I plan to try here again, mostly because the prices are so good. read more

I had been there a few years ago when it was under different management. I went today for a pedi and mani. Originally I was going to get gel tips but they were VERY honest with me about how similar the gel tips were to the acrylic. Where I didn't want that again (drill and all) they worked with me on my wants, needs, etc. Kayla booked my next appointment for me while I was there. I really look forward to going back in a few weeks for my next mani. I'd recommend them. The salon was open, clean & airy. I just moved to North Andover and have been dying to get my nails done since it's been forever. It seemed like the Yelp reviews were pretty good so I decided to give it a go this past week. Overall, I'd say they the quality of work was good for the price (I got a full set of acrylics with white tips and at the salon I used to go to they were pricier). I do wish that the ladies there were more personable and professional, and maybe it was because they were wrapping things up...but it was only 5:30 p.m. and no one else was in the place...so I felt like I was sort of rushed towards the end of things. The woman also said about 5 words to me, and I do appreciate at least a little small talk because it makes the time go faster and seems like they're actually going out of their way to make you have a good experience, but oh well I guess. I maaaay try somewhere else to check out the atmosphere, but it wasn't a terrible experience. read more

I stopped here as I was in town for a wedding. I thought it would be a great place based on the reviews on Yelp. Needless to say I was disappointed with the service. First off, I called the morning of to make an appointment. I showed up at the time they told me to and was made to wait 15 minutes then another 20 in the pedicure chair, total of 35 minute wait time! After 35 minutes the lady rushed me through a pedicure and did a half-ass job at it to boot. Not sure if it's because she realized I was from out of town, but it shouldn't matter. I'm a paying customer and should be treated like everyone else. If the treatment I got is par for the course --- stay away! I have come to platinum nails sporadically over the past 10 years or so, and have always had good experiences. Last night, however, I had an absolutely amazing experience with Lisa that has hooked me on her and this salon for life. Last night I saw on yelp that the salon closes at 7 pm on Fridays. I got out of my other appointment a little late and called at 6 pm to ask how much a gel manicure was ($25) and if I could get one if I got there at 6:15 (yes). So I got there at 6:15 and notice there's one customer leaving, and one employee there, who is quickly cleaning up the salon. She takes me quickly and proceeds to give me the BEST manicure I think I have ever had. (And I have gone all over Boston, including several very expensive places on Newbury Street such as Miniluxe.) It wasn't until I was about to leave at 7:10 that I saw on the window that they closed at 6:30! She had stayed late for me and had done a phenomenal job! She hadn't rushed anything, and took her time with my horrible cuticles, stopping at multiple points throughout to take off some more cuticle, or re-file an edge she didn't like. My manicure is absolutely perfect and exactly how I wanted it (and I'm extremely picky and never 100% happy with a manicure). And to top it all off, she was so incredibly sweet the whole time. I will only be going to Lisa in the future, and I can't recommend her enough!!! read more

Came from Brooklyn to visit my sister after a week on Cape Cod. My pedicure was a mess and I needed some pampering and peace. To be honest my first impression of the shop from outside was not great, but man-o-man did they change my mind. I got the basic pedicure with an additional salt rub. My feet were pampered, massaged, cleaned, pruned, etc for a full hour and my nails looked absolutely fantastic at the end. In NY a basic pedicure will get you MAYBE a half hour. I went in on a Sunday afternoon there were 2 people getting pedicures and no one waiting. The women were very friendly and actually called another employee in to do my pedicure. I only waited about 5 min. He was very good at getting my cuticles properly trimmed and the pedicure was great overall. This is strictly a nail salon and their prices were excellent. $25 for a basic pedi which included the sugar scrub. Very clean and newer pedi massage chairs. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because this is my first time and I want to see how it is after a few more visits. I've been to salons in Andover, Chelsmford, Lowell and North Andover and nothing comes close to Platinum Nails. This salon put the most effort in their work and their quality is unsurpassed! They have always accomdated me - either during the weekday or weekend; morning or night. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. They introduce themselves to their customers and make everyone feel very comfortable. The salon is very clean and is kept up nicely. Tools are always disenfected and everything is organized. The ladies all do a great job. They give extra attention to their work and it shows. I get a gel manicure and lasts 3 weeks without any chipping! I should have followed my gut when I walked in. Probably the dirtiest, most run-down nail salon I've been in. Definitely the worst/most painful gel manicure I have ever received. The first girl was so rough as she tried to get my polish off. Rather than soaking it, like every other place I've ever gone to, she just tried to file it right off, pushing down hard the entire time. It was so painful. Then another girl worked on my cuticles and that was also super painful, to the point that a couple of them hurt for days. The gel chipped within a day or two. If you have a good manicure, it'll last for 10+ days. So disappointing because I work right around the corner and could go on my lunch break. Wonderful service! The ladies are fast, friendly, and do a very good job. I not only got a perfect pedicure and fantastic gel manicure, but I also got to share a few laughs with the staff (and was even offered a slice of pizza)! this place is horrible, i wanted coffin nails, the lady did some shit that i dont even know what the fuck it was. My nails go in and out and all over the place.
