Bistro du Vin stood out amongst all the others and for one particular reason; its so darn charming! I was invited to a bday party over the weekend and while from the outside, it doesn't look much since its situated in the middle of two bars, once you step in, its like being back in a cafe in Paris. The decor is fabulous and the furniture is almost Parisian authentic. There's old posters, street signs, paintings... pretty much a lot of decorations you will find in a French cafe... in France! But what about the food? I'll have to admit that it was quite yummy. We had a a beef stew casserole, pork knuckles and sauerkraut, salmon in tomato sauce which overall were quite delicious and enough as sharing dishes. The host brought his own wine but they let us stay on a Sunday night until 11:30pm. Service was mostly good however I don't think they were accustom to so many foreigners at once and we were quite loud so thanks for putting up with us. Bistro Du Vin is really a nice place to bring several friends for a night of good conversation over good food and good wine. Def be back.

The setting is casual with a nice Paris like bistro decor. This place is small and the tables tightly sit next to each other to make use of the space. Especially on weekends it is crowded. The atmosphere is buzzing but very pleasant. They have 2 seating's, first from 630 - 830, second from 830 until close. The service is efficient and quick, may lack of warmth and friendliness depending of the server; especially when the place is packed. The wine list is small, with only a few selections of sparkling, red and white. If you want to have a nice bottle, bring your own wine. For every 2 person they waive the corkage for one bottle. If you bring more they charge you HK$ 200 per bottle which is very reasonable nowadays. The selection of food is adequate and offers typical french bistro fare. I have to say that the quality and taste of food is excellent. None of the dishes we tried were a letdown. My favorite appetizers were the escargots on bone marrow and the Home Salted Brandade, Soft Egg. Both are really delicious. My favorite main courses were the Coq Au Vin, the Suckling Pig Leg and the Char Grilled Cote De Boeuf. The chicken is so tender, fell of the bone and almost melted in your mouth. Same for the suckling pig which was really tender and the skin still crispy. If you're a beef lover try the Cote De Boeuf. This you have to pre-order as they don't keep it on stock all the time. This is best for sharing as including bone it comes at 1 Kg! I totally forgot to ask of the origin of the beef but in any case it's great. Cooked perfectly medium the meat was very juicy and tender. Be careful not to order to many main dishes if you're going for the Cote De Boeuf. It's filling! I am a bernaise guy and their bernaise is extremely good. Light and airy, perfectly done. Don't miss out on the frites that accompany the beef and the potato salad that accompanies the pork! It may be difficult to leave room for dessert but make sure to try the Fresh Baked Madeleines with Mousse au Chocolat. They serve them warm and they are still crispy! The mousse is fluffy and airy. It's made mainly out of dark chocolate which makes it not so heavy. Is it pricey? Yes, but worth every penny. Repeat factor 150%!

As with all the others, the journey here is marked with cautious anticipation - from locating the right factory building among the many other grey, run down entrances, to riding that elevator up to the right floor floor with a row of silent big metal gates marking the entrances of other tenants, to opening that one door and entering into a whole different environment of glassware clinking, servers hustling and diners enjoying their food. // FOOD // FRIED CALAMARI APPETIZER: this was recommended by our server (who was amazing btw) as one of the most popular appetizers there. The fried crispy calamari was made special by a spice coating and green pickled chilies scattered among the golden rings, and the avocado dip that accompanied it cuts perfectly into the oiliness of the calamari. Calamari wasn't THE best quality I've had, but the flavors more than made up for it to make me love this dish. I would highly recommend this, as this is quite a unique dish! SEAFOOD PASTA IN TOMATO SAUCE: don't think this was the exact name, but that's the gist of the dish. Super flavorful tomato sauce, generous portions of clams and shrimp bits, perfectly cooked pasta. Simple dish, but surprisingly yummy! BONE IN PORK CHOP: it came sliced up to reveal the perfectly cooked interior, so it was very convenient to share. Lovely juicy meat with amazing roasted vegetables, and it comes with a yuzu dipping sauce. Save some of the avocado dip from the appetizer, and slather it onto the roasted vegetables; it's actually delicious! TIRAMISU: again, a simple dish but made really well! It was creamy and the coffee flavors came through nicely. TOFU CHEESECAKE W BLACK SESAME SAUCE: so this was more of a novelty driven decision... We originally wanted the double chocolate tart but they took it off the menu, so I guess I was looking forward to something more rich. It was good, with a sprinkling of nuts on top that adds to the texture, but I guess I just don't really like tofu cheesecake (tastes a little too healthy haha) // SERVICE // The server who took our order was super friendly! She recommended the appetizer, which we ended up going with and enjoyed, and took the time to clearly explain the differences between two different pork based main courses when we couldn't decide. Our water was also refilled regularly and service was really attentive. // ENVIRONMENT // The decor was nice, seating was comfortable without being too crowded (they also have several large tables so this is a good spot for a group! We saw two groups celebrating birthdays that night). However, it was a little loud - maybe because of the way the acoustics in the room are, or maybe because of the fact that there are a few large groups. It's not to the point of discomfort, but you do have to raise your voice a little to carry a conversation, so that's what knocked the one star off. Overall, enjoyed it and will be returning!

The restaurant is located on the 18th Floor at One Nathan overlooking Victoria Harbor. It is a small yet cozy elegant space, with high ceilings and grand decor. The design was inspired by local award-winning actress, Carina Lau. The food on offer it is a fusion of Spanish and Japanese cuisine, with a menu designed by Pedro Samper, although he's not behind the stoves at the moment. Besides set lunch and a tasting menu, Zurriola's a la carte is extensive, as well as its dessert and wine menus (with 20 pages filled with reds, whites, cavas and champagnes!). Zurriola's well trained service awarded the restaurant the 'best service' during Hong Kong Restaurant Week in 2014 and they offered a set lunch that we decided to try. In fact, the service is great: they seem very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the food. I picked the 'presa' salad as a starter. For me, it was a little disappointing. Having been raised in the land of Iberico, I know how a good presa tastes like and this dish seemed bland to me. So, I was curious as how the main would come. I went for the grilled salmon with asparagus emulsion: it was a very small portion, and it tasted okay. Very well presented and well done dish, but nothing special. However, the dessert, melted chocolate and ice cream, made up for the rest. Set lunch was around 230 HKD per head, which I thought was reasonable. Although I wasn't impressed with the food, I did love the space, the views and the atmosphere.

Selection by the glass is decent as well. To our surprise the food was excellent. We ordered cheese burgers, French toast and rosti potatoes with smoked salmon. The meat of the burgers was nicely cooked, the brioche like Bun was fresh and crispy, not soggy at all. The rosti potatoe was crispy, not oily at all. Smoked salmon was nice, the dill and yoghurt matched perfectly. Highlight was the French Toast. It was crispy, not too sweet, the batter not too thick, nice touch of cinnamon. The creme fraiche and the berries accompanied nicely. Looking forward to coming back to try more from the main menu.

Where as the other stellar spots offer a more intimate experience and tighter spaces, PDP is wide open with their layout. So wide as a matter of fact, that they're one of the few places that can truly be outdoor and indoor at the same time. Plenty of folks come here to booze, chill, and people watch, all of which could be considered pastimes of mine. Start it off with their specialty sangrias (hello rosé sangria), which aren't limited to red and white, but also beer as well. The latter is a bit of a surprise, and the taste is an extra kick (ginger beer?) that makes less beer-y but more cocktail'y. The rest of the drinks are mainly beers, frozen drinks, martinis, and cocktails. There are mocktails available for the non-alcoholic folks and a decent wine selection for people who aren't feeling the sangria. Pro-Tip: Happy Hour goes from 12pm-9pm. That's nine hours of easy drinking bliss. Food wise, I would venture their menu is more international than it is basque. Spanish tapas are certainly available here but they have pastas, pizzas, and sandiwches that are a solid complement to the drinks. Anything with their imported Iberico Ham is a safe be and the paella is extremely filling. The weekends can get pretty crowded and on some days they rock football / soccer matches. Unfortunately, some of the best eats (with great values) are often overlooked. Today, let me take you to one of those shiny, but hidden local gems. Florahouse is located in an obscure side street called Shelter Street which can easily be assessed on foot from the center of Causeway Bay via the pedestrian flyover near St. Paul Covenant School. The restaurant is located opposite the front entrance of a small boutique hotel (Rosedale Hotel). The restaurant is small and intimate with a flowery theme, an inviting atmosphere, and friendly vibes. The décor is contemporary with subtle hints of nature and health in the background. The health food theme is reflected in the menu as well, and is highlighted by the vegan dish Organic Earth Bowl. It's made with quinoa, corn, cherry tomato, red kidney beans among other goodies and was presented with a sliced avocado. The burger lover in me had to sample the Hong Kong rendition of the American burger and I was completely satisfied. The burger came with French fries and a green salad that was artfully presented which once again highlighted the floral theme of the restaurant. Other dishes that we ordered included linguine with smoked duck breast, carbonara, and linguine sautéed with kimchi and sliced beef. They were all delicious. The lunch specials are amazing values for your dollars. All but one (sirloin steak) of all the set lunches are under USD10 and come with a choice of soup, tea or coffee. We had the beet soup which was a smooth, creamy blender soup that was delicious and (again) healthy! I would highly recommend choosing the soup. Service has been friendly and prompt throughout our meal. The servers were truly wonderful and they turned an enjoyable lunch into a delightful and memorable dining experience.

Predominantly vegan, the place can be described as ovo lacto vegetarian. Jasmine tea, preserved vegetable dumplings with broth, fried noodles with vegetables, fried rice with chinese mahogany and an eggplant claypot was on the table. With a side of pickled cucumbers and mushrooms. The claypot eggplant was the star, flavorful and very tender. Spicier would've made the dish star-rier. It didn't occur to me that the fried noodles would be actually fried and not stir fried. Abundant mushrooms in that one. The fried rice was nicely done, crisp vegetables and all. The white pepper brings out the flavors. The dumplings were good, thin wrappers and mostly mushrooms in there. The broth was simple but tasted good, and I think it was the white pepper that did it again. They have non-Taiwanese / international dishes on the menu as well, so that maybe for another time.

They're similar in the aspect that you get to choose 3 veggie dishes / sides out of 6 listed options. If you work in Wan Chai (or even just in the area) and want to grab a quick vegetarian meal, this is the place to go! I love eating here compared to the other two similar concept restaurants because the food is simply the tastiest of the three. Everything is just super flavorful and tasty. Also, unless Happy Veggies and Art Veggies, they give you a small bowl of rice in case you're the type of person that doesn't eat much rice, but then they give you the option to scoop more rice and soup. Unlimited rice and soup, at your service! The other locations only give you one bowl or rice and one bowl of soup. THUS, if you're the type to eat a lot, you will certainly get the bang for your buck here. I always leave this place pretty full and satisfied. Aside from the veggie sides being yummier than the other places, the portions are larger too for the same price. So... even though Happy Veggies is closer to my office, I still rather take a bit longer time to walk here and eat Liza Veggies' food. :) *FYI - they display their daily veggie options in Chinese... Thus if you can't read Chinese, I recommend coming here with a friend that can read Chinese OR just look around tables to see what others are eating to get a sense of what you would like to get. It is certainly not ideal for non-Chinese readers, but promise it is worth it! My Chinese reading skills aren't all that great too, but I still come back time after time. It's a testament to their food la. ;)
