I called them, I was in their "clinic" 4 separate times - they visually say this wound. Their response was non- emergent. I am now day 3 in hospital. Day 3 of continuous antibiotics- due to this unsafe - in surgery practices. Lift and 100 cc does not look like this and now with the fluid gone they are sagging and implants infected. They will be removed in a few hours and I will have to start again with my desired lift in a year after reconstruction and recovery. Again no apology's, no email, no calls. My experience with Dr. Hvidenthal and his team was very disappointing. I received a BBL treatment here in December of 2024, and was left with a blistered burn in the middle of my cheek that turned into a very dark and noticeable mark. I went in for a follow-up 8 weeks later to discuss what had happened, and Heather told me that she thought the crystal tip on the machine may have overheated, as I was one of three people that had been burned in the past two months. I was given a tube of lightening cream to apply to the area, and it was suggested that I return for further BBL treatments and/or a chemical peel to lighten the burn mark. I am obviously disappointed by the results, and the idea of further investing in treatments here in an attempt to fix a problem that they created seems unwise. read more

Good location loved Dr Poulas Schedule a procedure that got mixed up. I left feeling disappointed and speechless, when I cancelled the reschedule I was not treated correctly and was informed via email that they were keeping $500 for what I paid in Dec . Going here ended up being one of the worst mistakes of my life. TL;DR: I went in for a blephastrophy and it was botched, badly. They made four attempts to fix it, and failed each time. I had to go to Stanford to have reconstructive surgery that included a skin transplant, and I'll likely never look symmetrical again. Long version: Two and a half years ago, I made an appointment with Plastic Surgery Specialists in Marin County (Greenbrae) to have my upper and lower eyelids done - blephastrophy. The support staff was friendly and professional, as their facilities are comfortable and clean. I met with Dr. Trent Douglas, who was also friendly and who seemed competent and had a nice resume, so I signed up. The day for surgery came. I went under anesthesia, I woke up, I went home to recover. Within a few days it was clear even with the swelling that the lower eyelids of both eyes were drooping and turning out (ectropion). The uppers were, to be fair, done well. I therefore had to have a second surgery with Dr. Douglas. This time I was awake, with metal contacts in my eyes (not as bad as it sounds) while he operated away. During the operation, he confessed that doing men's lower eyelids keeps him up at night as it's difficult. I was thinking, "What? You're only telling me this now?!"To make a long story short, while he did fix the left eyelid in the second surgery, he failed with the right eyelid again. It was still droopy and turning outward. It looked awful. So awful that my general practitioner was alarmed on seeing me and asked if I'd had a stroke. There was a third surgery. This time under general anesthesia again. He removed cartilage from the back of my ear and implanted it into my lower eyelid to support it. Same result - his work didn't work. Eyelid still droopy and turned outward. There was a fourth procedure while I was awake with the metal contacts in. Didn't work. He told me now that he was going to use the "gold standard" (his words) to fix it, with a 5th procedure which included drilling holes through my eye socket to run thread through. General anesthesia again, and again, his work failed. The eyelid looked terrible and apparently could potentially cause serious vision problems over time if not corrected. Why I gave him so many chances to fix his own errors, I don't know, but thank goodness that at this point he confessed that he didn't know what to do. He referred me to a colleague of his in San Diego, but a) I could no longer trust Dr. Douglas's judgment and b) I'm in the Bay Area, so wasn't excited about many trips to San Diego for surgery and multiple follow-ups. We have two world-class hospital systems here, with top ocular-plastic surgeons, after all. So, I went to a surgeon at Stanford (Dr. Andrea Kossler) who has an excellent reputation and resume. (Unfortunately, Blue Shield's reps misled me on my insurance coverage applicability here, and I ended up with a $45,000+ bill for this.) Fixing it required a shockingly large skin transplant from the back of my other ear to my lower eyelid, tightening my eyelid through the holes in my eye socket that Dr. Douglass had drilled, and stitching the edges of my upper and lower right eyelid together, which remained that way for 7 months. My right eye/eyelid is WAY better after the Stanford surgery (the 6th surgery, for those keeping score), thankfully, but the signs of Dr. Douglas' mistakes are pretty obvious to me, or to anyone that knew me before. I don't know if the scarring from the skin transplant will ever fully look normal and I'll probably never be happy with how my right eye looks again as the areas around my eyes are probably not going to look symmetrical ever again. I thought it was strange that after Dr. Douglas's referral to his friend in San Diego, I never heard from him or anyone at PSS again. The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is the staff and facilities at PSS were both generally wonderful, results of the actual surgeries aside. Even Dr. Douglas's bedside manner was very good, probably to a fault, as had he had a less friendly manner I likely would have ditched him after his 3rd failed procedure and saved myself the 4th and 5th procedures. To his credit, because I want to be fair, he was also always available to see me when I needed to be seen, and I needed to see him quite a lot. Unless he was out of town, I was never told I'd need to wait a month or whatnot - he typically made himself available the next day or two. I also know he felt badly about the work he did on me, but feeling badly doesn't change the result, very unfortunately. read more

The medspa is cheap for a reason, Heather who performed a treatment that permanently, very noticeably SCARRED my face, I suspect from lack of training and/or care. When I asked for them to make it right, their manager was super nasty and gave the most basic B energy I've ever encountered, and I used to live in the Marina district in SF. Because if this experience I eventually got it in my mind that I needed to travel all the way to Beverly Hills to receive good quality care. Never once had these issues with any doctors office I had consults with in Los Angeles. I spent 31k on my surgery. and I'm extremely happy. Money was never the problem, in the end I couldn't trust I would receive the kind of care I deserved and the staff would truly support me after I get out of surgery. Unfortunately I have to update my review as Dr. Hvistendal chose to lie in his response. I detailed an extremely traumatic situation that happened at PSS. To summarize I was given far too much neurotoxin that resulted in brow drop, blurred vision, and blinding migraines for months. WORSE than that, Heather placed an entire syringe of filler around my mouth (that I didn't ask for) and gave me horrible, painful jowls where I had NONE before. I have been in agony since November. The service was essentially malpractice and has left me permanently deformed. I have developed agoraphobia, have crippling anxiety, and won't socialize due to the way I look. I went in numerous times and begged them to dissolve it and they kept saying I was "just swollen" and that it would normalize. It never did, and has stretched the skin out so that I apparently have permanent pockets around my mouth. Let's address the lies from Dr. Hvistendal: First, he used my pain as an opportunity to advertise his practice. His said it wasn't taken lightly, yet they pushed me around for months and then licked me out of the practice. He said I was educated about the "rare" side effects which is absolutely untrue. He mentions the lip area but my lips were not injected. He says he offered me a credit but 1) this isn't true, see attached photo and 2) how can I use a credit at a spa I was 'kicked out of'? I would never go back there anyway, not if my life depended on it. He says it takes 3-7 days to process medical records and refunds but they never gave me the promised refund and it took months to get my medical records. I only got them after I told them CA law entitles me to them. I have reached out to PSS many times, as has my attorney. They haven't responded to my attorney's letters, or my emails. Clearly they believe they are above the law. I am going to have to take them to small claims court and continue to re-experience this horrible trauma over and over again. I have already spent over $6K with another excellent practice, attempting to look how I looked before this abuse. So, I'm out the $8K in botched service plus unused treatments from packages purchased, plus the new $6K, and I still may never return to normal without plastic surgery. While the good doctor sounds honest and empathetic in his response, beware as he left me for months in horrible pain. Had he dissolved all the filler the moment I first went to them, (as I told him to) I could still look normal today. Imagine having expanders in your skin- that is how skin gets permanently stretched. Don't forget he wrote me a letter demanding an NDA, a non disparagement clause, and a legal contract where I am supposed to acknowledge the damage may be permanent and may require plastic surgery. How low can you go? Please take my advice, don't go here if you want an honest, ethical doctor who won't scar you for life and take all your money. They held my medical records and refund in exchange for me signing a legal documents releasing them from any claims. I was not willing to do this. I was able to finally get my records after I cited CA consumer rights law, but still no refund. Off to court we go. One of the most traumatic experiences of my life. read more

I was blown away by my experience at PS Specialists! They are super kind, courteous, prompt, and most importantly: their work is *flawless*. Jennifer Carrico brought me into PSS, and I couldn't be more grateful! In the past, I got my botox and filler (and facials and coolsculpting) at a med spa that had near constant turnover, fluctuating prices/discounts (where I missed a 50% deal by ONE day), and feeling like I was a number in a waiting room. Not at PSS!! Another thing I value is that it's clear that PSS and their staff are not heavy-handed with the treatments to their own faces. I can't say enough good things about them. They did 2 more surgeries for me (breast implant/lift and a thigh lift) and though it's only been about 2 months (going on 3 in about a week) everything is healing perfectly and I'm so happy with the results. This is the most confident I've been in my entire life. And that's saying something since my confidence was like a 3 on a scale of one to ten. The staff is always so kind, friendly and accommodating. Dr. Douglas truly cares about giving you the best results. When I said what size breasts I was aiming for Dr. Douglas measured and made sure that it would work for my body type and stay proportional. He explained why that size would work. Which is great because without all that, I would have gone too big. Like 100%. This last week I was super sick and a rash appeared on my leg along the scar of my thigh lift. I was worried so I called PSS and even though it was a super booked day for them, they got me in right away. They aired on the side of caution and prescribed some antibiotics. As the rash progressed I was able to see my General Doctor (because there were some changes with the rash) but Dr.Douglas's office was quick to see me first. So I have now had 3 successful surgeries with Dr. Douglas and his amazing staff and I've honestly never felt better in my life. Hello, Just tried speaking with the owner of the practice who is also a Dr there at Plastic Surgery Specialists, to ask him about HIS response to my original Yelp review. I wanted to see if maybe HE would be kind enough to help me, (at least listen) considering that the response to me says that they "are committed to providing outstanding services and would love the opportunity to show all patients quality and a caring experience. Please reach out to us directly to discuss any concerns." And therefore I did! I was really hoping to get SOME sort of human on the other end. But...this was not my experience at ALL. When I DID reach out to him directly, he was EXTREMELY rude and said because I gave a bad Yelp review he was going to hang up on me which he eventually did.. I wanted to share with him about WHY I gave the review and if HE could maybe help me resolve some of the things. I was hoping maybe HE would be the one who'd finally validated my long, traumatic experience, and have SOME empathy, but that was just wishful thinking. He instead yelled at me and was cruel..It is clear they are more concerned about their reputation than us patients. He also clearly told me that he actually does NOT post the responses. I think it's a 3rd party. He basically said HE wouldn't have agreed to the response I quoted earlier. Wow I've already seen how this practice is NOT one to "show their patients a caring experience" but it just got worse. Actions have spoken loudly multiple times over. ALL they care about is money and definitely NOT the patient! Get you in and out, and IF a Dr in the practice messes you up, you're screwed. They DO NOT care. Period. You can have all the money and success in this life, but in the end when you've treated people badly, that'll be a regretful day. I WAS botched and life HAS been very affected by some permanent mistakes made. When I was promised some other procedures to help fix some of them the Dr then went back on his promise which shows complete lack of integrity. Now I'm left with disfigurement. The one thing that gave me some hope was to get the revisions he promised me. :-( So... I am still reeling from all of this - can't believe the evil injustice with this practice. I've been a patient for several years and couldn't be happier with the service and care of PSS. I'm not going to list everything I done lol. I've had a consults with various staff members - all were professional, honest, and very helpful. I did a surgery with Dr D. His bedside manner is incredible. Lyvia and Lidia took care of me beforehand. It was a few years ago but they were so amazing I still remember it fondly. The aftercare instructions were easy and the final results still blow my mind. I do most of my non-surgical procedures with Nurse Heather who is an absolute gem! I really appreciate all the staff - Lyvia, Kelly, Laura, Sarah, Flavia, Julia, Elise, and anyone else I've forgotten or don't remember their name. Top tier service and top tier results (with safety as #1). To be honest, I'm surprised to see the few negative reviews on Yelp for PSS lately. After visiting several plastic surgeons for a procedure I decided to stay at PSS. When I met Dr. Douglas and the staff, I immediately felt confident that I was in great hands. Dr. Douglas was very honest, kind, and professional. He is not the kind of plastic surgeon that will sell you procedures that you do not need. He will help you to accomplish your "beauty goals". In fact he discouraged me from getting any unnecessary procedures that I was considering. I had plastic surgery (tummy tuck) in June last year and I di not have enough words of appreciation for Dr Douglas, nurse Julie and medical assistant Kelly Toledo. My husband's first words when he saw my new body after surgery were "Oh my God, Dr. Douglas is a genius!" Followed by "You were always beautiful in my eyes, honey!" The place was nice, clean, neat. I love this Med Spa... i have been seeing Faviola for a few months now for facials and she is amazing!! She is super sweet and professional. She makes sure you feel comfortable and it doesn't even feel like you are at a "med spa" it feels like a luxury spa.. the add of essential oils is my fav part, the calming music, and good products.... Dr. Hvistendahl and his staff are awesome! It's been a little over a month since Dr. H removed my breast implants (which I had hated since I got my set over 20 years ago) and a lift and I truly could not possibly be happier with the outcome. Previously, I had seen four reputable surgeons over the past 5 years to remove my implants, and no one would listen to me. No, I didn't want a smaller set of implants (I'd gone under the knife three times previously getting smaller and smaller implants)... I wanted them out. And Dr. H listened and HEARD me! A last minute decision for a bit of fat transfer to even them out was a great call. I finally have the size I've always wanted, a big B/small C. I tossed my massive, moulded underwire bras and bought teeny little wireless comfortable Skimms bras. I feel like myself again. And the staff at PSS was kind, supportive, encouraging and genuinely so happy for me adding to the great experience. Everyone is asking me about recovery. Honestly, it was a piece of cake. 5/5 fully recommend. Over the years I have been to the med spa for several cosmetic procedures including Botox, fillers, and laser treatments. In addition to the wonderful aesthetics of the offices, the staff are all incredibly pleasant, sweet, professional, and give you the time and attention you would hope for. At first I was just seeing one of the nurses, but due to scheduling reasons I had to see someone else. My next nurse was just as lovely and I started seeing them both for future appointments. Recently, I just saw someone else and also loved her. I really don't think you can go wrong with who you see here. I always leave feeling uplifted. This is not a cheap place, but rather somewhere you go to get high-quality care you can trust. PSS occasionally offers promotions including one coming up in October that I am very excited for. Most of the staff is related. A lot of nepotism. No objectivity. Changed clinician on me on the eve of surgery, when I objected ((turns out, it was to the surgeons wife), I was told they did not want my business. Turns out This was a blessing in disguise. I ended up with a top Ivy League trained surgeon in the city. I gladly paid more for the peace of mind. She was fantastic! and has quite the following. read more
