Looking for something new to do in Richmond? I highly recommend checking out Plant House. It's a cute plant shop that offers different terrarium classes and DIY workshop terrarium building and candle pouring! Reservations are a must if you have a large party and some tickets include alcoholic and non-alcohol beverages. They do have walk-in terrarium building, and the worker there was very helpful and gave us clear instructions. Before we got started, my friend and I got to select our terrarium bowl which comes in all different shapes and sizes. Prices range from $20-40+ depending on which bowl we chose. Each container let us know how many plants we can fit. After we got our bowl, the next step is choosing succulents, cactus plants or a variety of air plants. We can't mix air and succulents plants together due to different care for them. Finally the fun part begins! This is where your creative side comes in and I get to decorate the plants with moss, rocks, color sands, shells, and so much more. Plant House was really fun and it includes all the supplies and materials! Prices are pretty reasonable since I've been elsewhere that charged double! I love my new terrarium addition to my plant collection!

You can find the common plants here; snakes, monsteras, pothos and all that . But, they also have some exclusives, like Jacklyn Poly or Philodendron Ring of Fire. For the most part, the prices are great. Everyone here is well informed and drop you some jewels at checkout. They're going to tell you how to care for your babies for when you get home. I learned that my Calathea Network only likes rain water. Good to know. LOVE this place.

Great class opportunity. Went to the bonsai class on a date night. Super fun. Lots of people, great guidance, drinks to purchase AND brewery after to extend the date.

I had a great time making a terarrium with some friends. There are so many different types of plants and ways to personalize the experience with was refreshing. The staff was also very knowledgeable and could answer a variety of questions! This experience was very relaxing and a great way to explore new ways of decorating your personal spaces!

PlantHouse is super approachable for plant amateurs like me. I needed to repot my plant but had no idea how to go about doing that. The employee told me which size pot I should upsize to. They have a lot of different colors, designs, and sizes so there should be something for everyone. If you purchase a pot there, they repot your plant complimentary. The employee also gave me tips to propagate since one of my vines was bare. They have a ton of plants to choose from. They also have workshops where you can make your own terrariums and whatnot.

Though I'm not a big plant person (I don't have a green thumb at all wah), I came here with a friend who is and we had a nice time browsing all the different plants while we were visiting Richmond. Beautiful atmosphere, great use of space filled with plants everywhere which I loved so much! The quality of air must be so pure in there lol. There were also two stations where you could create your own terrarium! I thought that was so cool and was tempted to try it out. Lots of pretty pots as well for plants as well as propagation tube setups. Service is also super attentive and positive here which was much appreciated. I'd return if I work up enough courage and confidence to take care of a plant correctly.

I am not a plant person, but I went with someone who is very much a plant person and she really was impressed by their collection of plants. Besides, having really interesting plants, they have a really good group activity for a date activity or a birthday party activity of making your own atrium. They have fun things that you can put in these glass containers with plants and different decorations. Very neat store.

For a surprise date night my husband booked us a terrarium orname group class at PlantHouse. It was a fun and easy activity to swing into the holiday weekend and spend some time in Scott's Addition!

My fiance bought us a terrarium making class for our anniversary and it was such a fun activity! It was harder than either of us expected (lol). Our class included 4 succulents or cacti. I suggest choosing smaller size plants because it is a tight fit in the terrarium. Also go slow, take your time, and don't be afraid to switch up plant placement before moving forward with decorations. Overall the class was so fun and I loved all the goods they had for purchase including deliciously smelling candles. I highly recommend Plant House!

A great idea, a beautiful location but the workshop really missed the mark. Maybe it was an off night but the workshop sounded great from the description. We were very disappointed by the actual workshop. When we arrived and checked in we were given a choice of two sets of plants - non-toxic to pets and mildly toxic (probably a much better way to handle that). We had to ask about the plants and the staff person seemed a little irritated that we wanted specifics. Not sure if it was because she didn't know the answers or if she was just annoyed. The workshop started at 6:45 and we walked out the door at 7:05. 20 minutes for a one hour workshop. We were not given care information or any guidance on our plants. At the end several people were asking how to store our "plant ball" and we were told "however you want." Not super helpful when we are there to learn. They offer drinks and snack for sale but none were offered. A great idea, just poor execution Management could easily turn this around and I sure hope they do.

Philodendron Brazil - $12 included in cost of kokedama class ticket

We came to PlantHouse in October for a date night at their kokedama class. It was a great time, and I'd be happy to take another class again here. Our class was about an hour long. They provided drinks, instruction, materials, and the plant at the cost of the class ticket. I believe our tickets were $25 each and this was pretty low considering everything they give you. My plant alone was labeled at $12. The instruction was fairly straightforward and they walk around to supervise and provide help/answer questions when needed. I was a little disappointed that this kokedama used dried Spanish moss instead of sheet moss, but for the price of the ticket and the overall fun of the class, I don't think it's a drawback. They have a healthy, diverse selection of houseplants available and one of the larger selections of air plants I've seen in the area. But I think the real appeal here for me is the M-A-S-S-I-V-E selection of pots. I mean, every wall is covered in pots. I would come back here just to buy pots because they really have probably the cutest selection in the area and they are really reasonable in cost compared to other shops nearby. Beyond the class, I did buy a plant and a pot to take it home in after we were finished up. Some of their plants are a little more expensive than other nurseries in the area but others are lower. I purchased a large pencil cactus for at about half the price of a nursery closer to my home. They were selling a small Monstera Peru for twice the cost of the larger one I recently purchased from another nursery.

I had no idea I would be adopting some plant babies today. My friend and I waited for about 30 minutes to get inside. They are doing all the can for covid, I really appreciate that. Once you are in you have to put hand sanitizer on. Plants were everywhere!!! I wanted so many! We were offered a water while outside and again on the inside. That was a nice touch. After being inside I'm glad they limited the number of people inside. I feel it could get really congested inside and over whelming. I was able to walk around looking at plants until I chose some. The staff was very knowledgeable!! They were so helpful! I picked out two cactus plants and they planted them for me. I love that they do that. I can not wait to go back!

I absolutely LOVE the new PlantHouse location. The parking is much easier (yes, even with it being street parking). Perfect location in the booming Scott's Addition area. The selection of plants ranges from high light to low lights, plenty of books, plant pots, and terrariums to choose from as well as fertilizers and potting soil. I've attend a terrarium workshop at the old location and thoroughly enjoyed it. I recently went to this location for Houseplants 101 and found it very informative! The staff are friendly! I would recommend stopping in! I also like that you can text the store number to get advice on your plants. Happy planting!

Really wants you to just stick around and work, talk, etc. and I feel like we need more of that in the city. I'm obsessed with plants and swore to my boyfriend that we would go in, check it out, then leave without a plant. I couldn't pass up the Monstera they had. Though I must be honest, it's overpriced. ($36) The Monstera's leaves were shined (all the plants in the shop has shined leaves), which can be an issue if they use harmful chemicals on the leaves. I hope that they use organic products when doing so. I wanted to point out that I already lost two leaves since getting her. And that's with proper lighting (south facing window, bright indirect light). Watering whenever the first inch or two of soil is dry (about 10ish days in between). I have transported her twice since then, so it could be due to stress and changing to the environment. (Which I understand completely!) Also one leaf has twisted upside down? A couple of days after the purchase, I've noticed this, so I'm not sure if she was like that in the shop or not. I try to adjust the stem, but I don't want to apply too much stress to an already adjusting plant. I give the atmosphere of the shop a 5 (there's a live plant wall! Like that's dope!) The owner of the shop is a solid 5. I'm concerned about the treatment of the leaves, so I give the plants a 3.5. I feel like instead of catering to an aesthetic, just simply dust them off and let their own beauty shine! Lastly the selection is limited for now. I hope as the shop matures and grow, they'll get a larger variety of plants! I encourage any plant loving person to come here and give them business! I want more local nurseries for plants. I think this is a good start and I'll be back for new plants. (Once I have more room...)

I also found a Crispy wave Japanese fern & a Christmas cactus for the house, and the helpful woman at the shop even found my rosemary (only a few left) ! How serendipitous! We buys almost all of our plants from Sandy's as in my opinion perennials are really the only way to go to get the most out of your money so needless to say we've been buying here for years! Anyway, after I questioned her statement about fairness, she said "I don't really know what price the big box stores are selling their plants - better answer... anyway, there was no explanation as to why it would be better to shop for plants at their business vs Lowe's. Another disappointment, I asked if they provide military discounts - NO, they don't care to help military veterans - so I'll take my business elsewhere. Sad thing is, I used to work at Sandy's plants over 20 years ago before I joined the Army, so I really wanted to shop there, but this lady (new manager?) who answered the phone, even after telling her I was a former employee of the business, genuinely uninspired me to take the trip there.
