We had a blast making ornaments and learning the process it takes to do that while being safely guided in making our own! I would highly recommend this to anyone!

    1. I can't recommend this place enough! 2. How do they only have three reviews here...? I guess it's a hidden gem to the extreme. I hadn't heard of them either until about a month ago when a friend emailed to ask if I'd like to join for a glass pumpkin class, for $30. I'm always up for new experiences, so of course I said yes. Apparently a group of ladies has been going annually for a few years now and slowly adding to their glass pumpkin collection. I imagine you'll be able to count me in those ranks next year as well, because the whole night was a blast. The night started with a demo by Chris and Dave. They walked us through the glass-making process with cool tidbits of information about the process mixed in. Then, one at a time, they walked us through the process of creating the pumpkins. We could select our own colors. Me being me, I chose aqua blue, white, and black to match the color scheme of my apartment. Obviously, not being an expert of any kind, all I did was roll the heated glass in the colors, put it in the oven and rotate it, and blow hard into a tube when told to do so. But what a fun intro to glass making! The pumpkins had to chill in a container overnight. They provide a listing of pickup hours. You must take your glass within 60 days. I grabbed mine two days after the class and was super happy with the result. I had it on display in my apartment until last night. My kitten has been extremely rambunctious lately and climbed the bookshelf I had it on. I then moved it to the fridge top, but then he knocked off some of my magnets not long after. I'm glad I decided to put it in the cabinet this morning, because minutes later he hopped up on top of the fridge for the very first time. Little dude has already shattered one of my glasses this week; so glad the pumpkin remained safe! ...I think I'll just bring it to work. The Glass Spot also offers ornament-making classes plus other demos throughout the year. I believe they close in the summer, which would make sense since it gets crazy hot in the studio. If you want to try your hand at crafting glass, definitely check these guys out!

I've taken a variety of classes with them throughout the years and always ask for a gift card to the studio during Christmastime. They offer single day courses and longer courses. Some of the single day or two-class courses I've taken have been Let's Build a Mug (hand building), Vase building (hand building one course with clay the other with flowers), Slab Boxes (hand building), Candle vessel making (hand building), and a hand building wall pocket class. I've done two Beginning Clay - Wheel Throwing classes at Hand / Thrown. I wanted to try a beginner class with a different teacher because I felt like I didn't understand it the first time. The best part about their several class courses is that they give you studio time to practice throughout the week. So not only do you learn in class, but you can use what you learned outside of class without having to buy a wheel and the materials for home (ignoring clay, you need to buy your own clay after you finish the one that comes with the class). In my time there, they offer you a choice between a plain white clay and a speckled earth tone one. They have a variety of glazes and teach you how to use them. Writing this review makes me feel day dreamy about all the time I've spent there. It's an incredible space with great natural lighting. Their classes can sell out fast, but if you sign up for their email list and sign up within the time the classes are released, you should be good to go. I highly recommend taking pottery classes at Hand / Thrown Ceramics Studio!
