We stopped there on our way to Toronto. Very cute, little place in the suburbs of London. It has a little upscale vibe which we weren't expecting and looking for as we were in a rush to eat dinner and get going. Despite that, we decided to stay hoping it will not take long to get food, eat and go. The server was very nice, he provided us details on current specials and have us time to decide. I believe they change menu seasonally as some of the items I did see online were not on the menu. I went with the wild mushroom Flatbread and husband got their burger with fries. Food came out pretty quickly and it was delicious. The Flatbread had a nice and strong mushroom'y flavor, fries were fresh and nicely seasoned and the burger was amazing. The sauce that they gave worn the fries was delicious. You could really taste that the food is higher quality. We also got two cheesecakes to go (espresso and vanilla with berries) but these were a disappointment. Not sure if because they were in the car for 3h (I still put them in the fridge for 30 minutes before we ate them) or they are just not the best. Not sure. They were also very tiny pieces for the price. The entire dinner was on a pricey side but we enjoyed our and I would recommend this place for a date night or if you want to get something more high end. read more

We were passing through London on our way to Niagara Falls, looking for a dog-friendly place with good vegan food. Based on reviews, we decided to stop at this wonderful restaurant in this charming (and hopping) neighborhood. The food was excellent! We especially enjoyed the beef bourguignon and the brie en croûte (although the brie could have been just a bit more melted). My oat latte was superb. But the thing that made our visit particularly special was the service. I called ahead to see if they had a patio so we could dine with our dog. I was told that although they have a sidewalk patio, it was closed because of inclement weather, but if we were willing to chance the weather, they would set up a table outside so we would be able to dine with our pup. We showed up and they pulled a table outside, and the server was a good sport about serving us in very windy weather. At least the rain stayed away! read more

Jamie W. and I took a road trip from Detroit to Toronto, which takes about 3-1/2 hours if there isn't a long wait at the border. Thankfully there wasn't, and midway through our drive we stopped in London, a mid-sized city that was frankly on the nondescript side. I rifled through the Yelp app to find a 'vegetarian friendly' place for lunch and found this popular vegan spot. We were a bit worried that a purely vegan menu wouldn't be too satisfying, but we were wrong. In fact, we should have stopped here on the way back to Detroit, but you know me. New places mean another Yelp review to write. I can't help it. It's a disease. Jamie went for the $12 bowl of PMK Chili, and it was thick and delicious considering it was a purely vegan concoction full of beans and chopped root vegetables and topped with their versions of sour cream and cheese sauce and accompanied by green onion and blue corn tortilla chips (photo: http://bit.ly/2jZqzcU). I ordered the $17 Rice Bowl which artfully mixed crimini mushrooms, red peppers, sweet potato, chopped onions, and shredded carrots in a light sweet and sour sauce. It was placed on a small bed of brown rice and topped with crispy tofu pieces and fresh bean sprouts (photo: http://bit.ly/2jZo6iF). The sum of the elements was quite tasty. We shared an $8 bowl of the Soup of the Day, Tomato Bisque that added beans for a creamy consistency (photo: http://bit.ly/2k0le55). Really well executed here and better than getting a box of doughnuts at Tim Horton's. FOOD - 4 stars...vegan fare done right AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...casual eatery bustling with healthy eaters SERVICE - 3.5 stars...friendly and not that harried TOTAL - 4 stars...welcome to London, Ontario! Plant Matter Kitchen - a slice of pizza in a box - Vegan Near Me - London, Ontario

I've been to this spot several times and it has been one of my favourite places to go for vegan food! I've tried several items of the menu but unfortunately only took pics of 2 but i will try to explain the others. Ice coffee: I got an ice coffee when i was dining in and there were a variety of plant based milk to choose from! The waiter offered the hazelnut almond creamer for me to try and I took his advice. Wow. It was so good, i have been trying to find the creamer ever since, so if anyone knows, let me know haha Poutine: The poutine was made with potato wedges instead of fries which I loved. The wedges were thick, drizzled with a "gravy" and white sauce and vegan cheese curds. They were absolutely delightful. I even asked the waiter where it was from and it's from a locally sourced vegan manufacturer called the green goddess i believe. Amazing. The tofu bowl The tofu was made to perfection. Tofu is always something that is hard to make in my opinion as it could taste bland and gross or it could be the best thing you've ever had. They nailed it with the marinate and it was so good. The bowl was also very filling and I love the sauce that goes with it. I've also had the vegan Mac and cheese as well as the mushroom flatbread before and they were also to die for, especially the Mac and cheese! Overall, it's my favourite vegan restaurant to go to and I would definitely recommend it! 10/10 read more

Good little all-vegan spot in central-ish London but with free street parking out front. I stopped for a late lunch looking for a health bowl. So I tried their Fig & Farro Bowl ($17 plus tax), which comes with a base of farrow and kale, apple slices, pickled beets, navy beans, sweet potato, candied cashews, and pumpkin sides, served with a sweet fig dressing on the side. It was pretty solid, with very fresh ingredients, maybe a bit on the sweet side, but with a nice variety. Friendly service and a very comfortable, upper-scale-but-casual feel to it. I wish they ditched the organic food scam though. Overall, recommended. read more

Hip-feeling, organic and vegan lunch cafe just South of downtown London. A great place to stop for a healthy bite to eat. The food is good and they take their greens and veggies seriously! Came on a Friday around 1pm and it wasn't crowded at all. My friend got the raw bowl which was just a boat load of spinach with shredded beets, carrots, and other organic goodies on top. Definitely one of the healthiest things I've seen recently at a restaurant. I got a vegan burger that the server described as similar to a bacon cheeseburger. I wouldn't say it mimics a burger, but it was very good! The patty seemed like some kind of nut/soy mix, the tempeh strips were savory, and it came with some greens and a dressing that had a balsamic flavor. Yum! Only small issue is that it was soggy and fell apart easily once I started eating. read more

My favourite item on the menu is hands down the Buffalo Caesar Wrap. For awhile it was removed from the dinner menu, but when it made it's way back I was beyond pleased. My egg intolerance made it really difficult to enjoy foods I once loved, one being caesar dressing, but this item really hits the spot for me. I generally order from here over UberEats and everything is always packaged really well and arrives with good-sized portions. I can always count on my food being fresh, quality and tasty whenever ordering. Pre-pandemic I would go in on special occasions and the staff were always really friendly. Hoping to visit again soon! read more

We stopped by for dinner on a saturday night. We were serenaded by live music. Their menu is wonderful for those who follow gluten free or nut free diets. We had the curried potato "poutine". As a poutine impurist, i loved this combination of potatoes, seasoning, mushroom sauce, and nut based cheese sauce topped with pea sprouts. However, i do recognize that by calling this poutine it is doing real poutine a diservice. My partner got the chili(soup of the day) and gluten free pizza. I equated it to salad on a tortilla but it was also delicious! I was expecting more than cheese sauces for these vegan alternatives. Although we were decieved by the names of the dishes, they were delicious none-the-less! It's a great addition to the community here. read more

I hate to be that person but I really didn't feel anything was all that special here... Maybe cause it's Thanksgiving Day and every other place was closed? They were rammed... And service was very slow but if you don't care about that or the fact that they charged me $6 for a kids juice box ( yes I'm not kidding I even asked my server cause my tea was $3.50 and an Americano costs $4 ... How can a juice box, not fresh juice mind you that didn't come with the kids meal like it does every other place.... Cost $6!?).. Then by all means consider this a decent vegan cafe. Ok let's get past that and talk about the better news - the food!! I got the Philly cheese steak made with seitan with and a side of their daily soup, which happened to be tofu noodle today. Hubs got their beyond meat all dressed up with the caeser salad. Both entrees were great, I low key regretted not getting a side of the potato wedges just cuz they looked so yummy on all the other plates. My daughter got the kids beyond meat Burger with a side of chips which I thought would be potato chips but turns out there blue corn so you learn something new... The food was definitely fresh and the flavours married well together you can tell they put a lot of thought into ensuring that the food does not lack flavour. Also I was so excited to see a kid's beyond meat on the menu because usually there isn't one at other places... In fact that's one of the bigger reasons we picked this as one of our stops on our way home to Toronto because it's tough to find places with kids menus that offer a decent vegetarian protein option. Would I be back I guess would be the right question to ask but to be brutally honest I will not be going out of my way considering today's service and price tag. While he food did arrive in Decent amount of time..we waited quite a bit to just have dishes cleared or get extra napkins frankly it's not the service fault she was over busy. However I would say if you are a local or frequently in the area and you don't need to be there over a long weekend like I was I definitely recommend their food. read more

Staff are lovely and very helpful. Great restaurant atmosphere. I had the cauliflower bowl,--really disappointing. Lacked flavour, the fermented apples seemed out of place in the bowl. The crispy tofu that was added was delicious. Also dressing had seemed to be oil taste only, lacking any sesame taste whatsoever. Bowl seemed to have a fishy taste. I will give this restaurant another try, because as I said staff and atmosphere were lovely. Went back tried the cucumber bowl, omg so good. 5 stars Also had a green smoothie, tasted very yummy. Wish they would do fresh juices again. read more

4.5 STARS Decided to try this place out as it is highly rated online and anything vegan is my jam. My friend and I stopped by for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside - lots of white and green - and there are a good amount of tables for seating. We decided to sit on the patio as it was a beautiful sunny, warm day. Just a note, alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the patio, so you'll have to sit inside. Our waitress said the lunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu, but I still found it to have a good variety of options. We ordered the Mediterranean Flatbread to share. My friend ordered the Cobb Salad, and I ordered the PMK bowl with rice noodles and creamy cucumber dill dressing. We finished off with a little dessert: Triple Chocolate Cake. We were really hungry and ended up ordering a little too much food, but I had the leftovers for dinner, and I really liked the flavours cold! FOOD: The food was really great! Our flatbread was tasty, but a little burnt, otherwise I would have given my review 5 stars. My friend loved her salad and my PMK bowl was a large serving, really filling, and packed with ingredients (the pickled cucumbers were BOMB!). However, I didn't think the creamy cucumber dill dressing complemented the ingredients well - I think the ginger miso would have worked better! The highlight for me was the chocolate cake. HOLY MOLY IS WAS DELICIOUS!! An omnivore would not be able to tell it was vegan! OVERALL: Highly recommend and would definitely be back! read more

My husband and I came here today on a Valentine's Day date. We made a reservation and I'm glad we did because the restaurant was very busy! There was water on the table and everything was very clean. Since it was V-Day, they were offering a special prix fixe menu but we were still able to order off the regular menu. We had spinach dip for an appetizer, I had the Mac & "cheese" for my entree and my husband had the enchilada. All the food was hot and delicious! Shawn also tried two different beers (one was a vegan beer) and said they were good. I eat a lot of vegan food because I'm lactose intolerant and have a lot of food allergies, and it was so nice to be able to eat anything I wanted on the menu. The servers were very friendly and we never felt rushed even though it was very busy. I will definitely be back! read more

Very impressed by Plant Matter. Great variety of choices---Italian, Middle Easter, Asian, traditiional Canadian, etc. Good atmosphere. Definitely a vegan restaurant that you could take a non-vegan to. Service was good. I should add that the food is "real" food, not fake-processed items that are vegan but not so healthy. I stopped by Plant Matter Kitchen for lunch, when I found myself in London unexpectedly. A quick search on Yelp turned up a few interesting options. Fresh and locally-sourced ingredients tipped the scale in favor of PMK. The ambience is welcoming, with white and green paint, distressed wood, and wire-rope decor. The entrance area makes the place look cramped, but there's plentiful seating to the right of the counter. The open kitchen makes the chef and cooks accessible, and they were engaging their patrons, both with plentiful smiles and eye-contact, as well as friendly banter. Kelsey, our server, was friendly and attentive. She promptly got us our menus, informed us of the day's specials, and confirmed that despite conventional ingredient names, everything was plant-based. We got started with a soup of the day, which was a black bean and curried vegetables soup. It was flavorful, served at the right temperature for me, and a good texture: not overly blended, nor completely unprocessed. I also got an order of the Belly bowl, with soba noodles. It was also very flavorful. The pickled vegetables were not at all overpowering. The fresh vegetables, and Booch dressing were in the right proportions to balance out the pickles. I ended with a Power Smoothie to-go. It, too, was great- not too thick, not too thin; right amount of sweet, and perfect temperature. Kelsey checked up on us two or three times, which was great. Highly recommended for vegans and non-vegans alike! read more

'The vegans are taking over!' - quote from a friend. It's true, and they're making delicious food too! A friend of mine asked if I had been here yet, and of course I hadn't and I had been wanting to try it, so I said lets go! We went on a Wednesday night around 7:30pm and it was busy, but we were able to get a seat right by the open concept kitchen. We were seated by the open concept kitchen and windows, the lighting was dim, but the company was great! We were handed our menus and there was water already at the table. We browsed through the menu and decided on an appetizer of creamy garlic and spinach dip, and for our main course I got the linguini with wild mushroom and a balsamic reduction (that excited me the most!) and she got the calzone. Our app came out first, it was hot, creamy and you wouldn't even know there wasn't made with any cheese or dairy just by looking at it. It was super tasty. The linguini with the mushroom was delicious and her calzone came as two small sized ones, the tomato sauce was delicious and it was paired with a caesar salad which she gobbled up first. The experience was wonderful, the servers were wonderful, and the food was delicious. It was all in all a great experience. We were talking to our server afterwards about how pleased we were, and I told him that I hope to come back soon when I visit, as I am moving away. London has recently exploded with plant based restaurants and I think it's absolutely amazing how were moving forward into this. Like my friend said, 'the vegans are taking over!' You won't miss the meat. PMK packs their dishes with flavor. I ordered the curried black bean and vegetable soup. If anyone knows where I can get the recipe, I wouldn't hate it. Cute vegan restaurant in one of my favourite neighbourhoods, but the food was mediocre. The brunch items were not bad but not spectacular. Simple recipes and not the best ratio of protein and veg to carbs. The potato bowl was good, but it tastes like something I can easily whip up at home. I wish it came with some sort of protein. Also, it sat on a wet bed of roasted veggies. My favourite part was the tempeh, actually--most likely because it was greasy and slathered in sauce. read more

Had their thin crust pizza and was sorely disappointed that it did not resemble pizza at all. The crust was pita bread thin, there was no resemblance in flavour to pizza. It tasted ... healthy. I suppose that's usually a good thing, and a vegan place shouldn't be my first choice when craving pizza. Lesson learned. The spinach dip was really good. I was surprised by how "cheesy" it was given that it was vegan. I'd be down to try more of their menu. The restaurant has a nice vibe--there was live music playing when we had dinner; it was filled w a younger crowd; and the decor was pretty modern. read more

I don't ever order salad and I hate butternut squash. When I saw the spring salad in the menu, I had to order it. I did it with the avocado dressing. My friend ordered the butternut squash stew. The salad was fresh and vibrant with a ton of different components. It isn't one that I'd easily make at home. The stew was a revelation of flavour. I'm still dreaming of it. Once I finished my salad I had to have a bowl of the stew. My friends both got a bowl each. My friends boyfriend hates mushrooms but the stew changed his mind too. The wait staff is bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. I felt confident in their ability to lead me in the right direction. Staff are awesome, food is great, and the prices are reasonable. read more

I don't want to be too rough because this is a new business and I went in on their very first day serving lunch. People rave about the coffee and smoothies, but this review is only for the lunch food. They had a nice assortment of baked goods but I was there for lunch. There was no menu, just a tray with four boxed items which, along with miso soup, were their offerings for the day. They were vegetable maki rolls, hummus and veggies, a cobb salad with black beans and shredded veggies, and Caesar salad which appears to be just romaine lettuce and croutons. When I saw them advertising "lunch" on Facebook and on a board out front, I thought maybe there would be sandwiches or something. I was not impressed with the selection - other than the maki rolls, everything looked like something I could make at home in under 3 minutes. Everything was mostly raw and nothing looked like it was a full meal. For a place with the word "kitchen" in the name, I expected more cooking to be involved. The rice in the maki rolls and the chickpeas in the hummus were probably the only cooked things, other than the soup. Hubs wanted to just walk out but I wanted to be kind and got the maki rolls to go. They had very little flavor on their own and there was no soy sauce included with this pre-boxed snack. There was a garlic/ginger blob in the middle that could be used to add some flavor, but the whole thing was rather bland. The rice didn't even taste seasoned. Hopefully things pick up. I'd love to see this place do well. read more

The staff were really nice and welcoming, the food otherwise was not my favourite. The restaurant was very crowded as well as very loud. I wanted to try everything so I also got the vegan burger in a tortilla wrap. Also delicious. Tomato soup tasted incredible as well. The meal was needless to say so filling, I wasn't distraught when they forgot to include the spinach dip in my takeout order. Manager got back to me and said he'll add it tomorrow so it's all good. I am not a vegetarian. I am not a vegan. However, I do like to eat Vegetarian/Vegan as the chef's are challenged in making good food without the benefits of fat. And this kitchen crew outdid itself. This place is just as impressive nearly a year after my original review--and based on an extremely busy Friday night experience. The servers were also adept at identifying choices based on food intolerance issues. The service here is outstanding. Even though we sat at the high table near the cash (also used as a brochure table), we received impeccable service throughout the evening. This is by far the WORST experience I have ever had with a food establishment. I came in this morning and asked for a breakfast bowl (basically a smoothie bowl) to-go. On top of taking more than 20 minutes for my order to be completed, it was given to me in a PAPER take out container. Why would you offer a to-go option that is COMPLETELY unsuited for a LIQUID smoothie?? The smoothie ended up making a huge mess in my car and within 5 minutes it looked like diarrhea. Having lived in Wortley for a few years now, I finally got around to trying this place a few months ago. I was vegan at one time, so I am used to plant based alternatives. Let me be clear. If this was based on taste alone, this review would have five stars. We ordered the lentil Sheppard's pie, and the no cheese Mac n cheese. We did not miss the meat AT ALL. Where this review falls is the price point for me. For those two dishes, with tax and tip, it was over $40. While I wish this restaurant the best and think they are super innovative, I will not be returning as long as these prices remain. Review edited to respond to Glenn: Glenn, thank you for your response. I really do appreciate it. This review is merely my opinion. Perhaps we will return for lunch sometime since the time we visited was for a takeout dinner. As I said, the concept of the restaurant is great, but the price point for those two entrées was way too much for me. As you are in Wortley, I do understand that the rents aren't cheap, and I wish this restaurant the best. read more

Went to this place on a Wednesday evening, and it was packed during the summer so university was out. Service was quite slow (10 min to be seated, even though there was a couple of empty tables, and waiter took another 10 min to come by and introduce themselves), but were friendly. The place was quite noisy as it is small and many people were there. The food took about 20 minutes to come from the kitchen and was bland to taste. Potato stacks were overcooked, greasy with a soft cheese and tasteless. We ordered the linguine and Calzone for our entrees, which were both new items. Mushroom linguine portion size was decent but the flavour was also bland and mushy in texture. I couldn't taste the mushroom flavour. The Calzone, which too was bland came with a Caesar salad, with "tempeh" bacon bits. I know Caesar salads have bacon, however being a vegetarian restaurant, the taste of bacon (or meat) can be undesirable to vegetarians and vegans. The price was on the expensive side, considering there was no meat on the menu. Verdict - I wouldn't eat here again. If you want vegetarian or vegan food look elsewhere. read more

Just what I was looking for! Stopped by Wednesday evening around 6:30. Parking is free on the street. Place was clean and pleasantly decorated, tables well set up with fresh bottled water in place. The staff was quick, knowledgeable and attentive. Waited less than ten minutes for the Shepherd's Pie which was a generous portion, well seasoned, savory, plated well--I should have taken a picture ("Oops" she says as she scrapes the last of the mushroom gravy off the plate).
