Speaking of their website,…read moreit's a great tool to research ahead of time which yoga session (they offer 6 different genres) to choose on their home page with a full description of each category. If you are new to this location, make sure you take the time to fill out a registration form so you are all check-ed in. Clean mats, and weights for Iron Yoga, are provided so no big deal if you forget to bring your own. Hot yoga is this place's forté, as a majority of the classes offered include the cranked-up heat. The space is intimate and has a capacity limit of approximately 35-40 people, which leads back to my point of reserving online before dropping by. [Bonus: Cat employees enjoy a discount with a flash of the badge!] I went a few weeks ago for Iron Yoga and as I reflect on my experience, I can say with confidence that it was worthwhile and effective. Mallory delivered clear leadership and provided guidance on posture with excellent direction. The heat added to this session gave an extra oomph that regular weight-training lacked, but be sure to hydrate ahead of time and afterwards. My limbs were very sore the next day, leaving me feeling gratified. I highly recommend Yoga Projekt. Trust.

After moving to Illinois from California, I was extremely excited to have found a pole fitness…read morestudio in my area so that I can continue my journey. However, after taking 5 classes (3 of them which I had "injured" myself in which has almost never happened for the 1.5 years I've been training), I was extremely disappointed instead. Each class I had left feeling like there was no progress and in fact, I felt like I was back pedaling everything that I have trained and learned over the last year. I actually started to dread the weekly class membership I signed up for but since it was already paid and scheduled, I continued to go. The pole instructor Kyli was not very instructive in my opinion. She would demonstrate a move on the pole, stand back, sometimes even continuously checking the time on her phone, giving the impression that she was uninterested in really being there, awhile me and other students kind of just struggled to repeat what she had just demonstrated. When I would ask for further assistance...it was just demonstrated again. There is no coach to student engagement, no individual constructive criticism, or correct form. There wasn't even words of encouragement or affirmation when somebody would ace a move. After a few classes, I actually started clapping and giving affirmation myself to the other students of the class since nobody else, including the "coach, was doing it. However, when it was about talking about herself, it seemed like Kyli would be completely present. Which that alone was confusing. She would demonstrate part 1 of a move, tell a story for 5 mins about herself or how it relates, then continue on with showing part 2 of the move. Leaving me confused and distracted. In fact, often times I felt like I could have had more progress by simply pulling up a YouTube tutorial. I mean...nobody is receiving any feedback and we're just watching demonstrations so what exactly am I showing up for? Mind you, this class is only 60 mins long. It would be great if 15-20 mins of that class wasn't being spent on talking on things that aren't really going to interfere with what the students are here for. Even when looking at the social media pages and I'm seeing students being showcased, I'm seeing the moves in completely bad form...which if this was being corrected and there was actually engagement and wanting to see the students progress and perform at their best, it would showcase exactly just that. My "injuries" that have happened can absolutely be "my fault", however if there was more of a relationship and criticism being built, the chances of me executing a move correctly and safely...could of been higher. Hell, when I did have to repeatedly ask for correction of form (which was mostly always met with visible annoyance), look and behold, I would Ace it! No enthusiasm given with it though of course. To the owner and the instructors who are reading this feedback Please, start coaching. Not demonstrating and standing back, but COACHING. I understand a lot of us students are there for an outlet and to build community but it would be great if progress was being built as well.

Tara was great at adapting the workouts to my fitness level and injuries, especially some unique challenges that arose postpartum. I felt like she kept it challenging and new, but also didn't push too far resulting in injuries (like I had happen at traditional gyms). I'm moving out of state, otherwise I would be keeping up my regular 1-2x/week visits for health, sanity and lots of laughs! Also check out her unique couple classes, when offered. Husband and I really enjoyed couples yoga around Valentine's day!

The correct corporate information for this place (from Illinois Secretary of State website) is:…read moreERWIN'S GYM, BALLROOM & BANQUET CENTER, INC., 2302 W JOHN ST CHAMPAIGN IL 61821-6835. I was interested in student plan $40 initiation fee, $35/mo. I visited 4/17 and dealt with the woman at the counter. I repeatedly told her that I wanted the $40/$35 student plan. She handed me a contract for a 12 month plan, which I did not want. After going in circles with her for a bit of time, she took my credit card and fiddled with her computer. Then she handed me paperwork showing completely incorrect charges. I asked her to reverse them and fix the problem. Eventually, she gave up and got her manager, Tony, involved. Tony worked on the computer for a bit and at one point, I had several pending $64 charges on my card. Then he seemed to have the problem under control and he charged my card $40 and $18.72. Since $18.72 is more than 1/2 of $35, that charge didn't make any sense for half a month. I called Tony on 4/17 and told him that I had several authorizations on my card still. I asked if we could just forget it all and cancel the membership and refund everything, including the $40 and $18.72. He said no problem, and I emailed him a copy of the credit card bill showing the current state of it. On 4/18, two charges moved from authorization to posted - $40 and $18.72. I emailed a copy of the statement to Tony and requested that he refund the charges, as we had both agreed. It's now nearly two weeks later and I still have charges on my card. I have filed complaints with BBB and Illinois Attorney General. If they don't come to their senses soon, I'll file a lawsuit in small claims court. Having all these authorizations on my card made it impossible for me to shop for groceries for three days. I wish businesses were much more careful with charges that they post to customer cards. Accidental charges aren't just frustrating to see and resolve, they can have unanticipated consequences for cardholders. For more information on management personnel and their names, check the BBB listing for Refinery. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS GYM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE

Most negative part is the cancellation policy. My wife cancels a few days into the current month…read moreand she owes for that month (which is fine), but for the next month too? Not cool (this after cancelling all Zumba classes with little to no notice). When I handed in my form to cancel at the beginning of 2020, we were still charged for months afterwards. They eventually honored it, but only after having to get on them numerous times. Equipment selection is good, but definitely dated (Mandelbaum from Seinfeld would feel at home). The classes are not given in dedicated rooms, but instead are given upstairs in an area that is alternatively used for events like weddings. It's a little odd. They started getting cheap by not turning on the AC for the wife's zumba class (claiming the AC was broken). I hate franchised gyms like Planet Fitness, so this placed looked promising in comparison. Ultimately, it disappointed.
