Coach Brian and all the coaches are extremely kind and caring as well as the other children in class. Even the older more experienced children take their time to help the newer ones. Since my daughter started training she has learned to be more confident in herself and she has made several friends with the other kids in class. She has chosen to stop gymnastics and soccer to stay focused on Ju Jitsu and she made this choice after the 1st month of being at Carlson Gracie Channahon. As a parent I feel so confident and comfortable with the coaches and other kids that I let my daughter go into class on her own at times which builds her confidence and has made her grow less shy around people. I am truly happy that we found a place where our daughter can not only learn how to defend herself but can become more confident in all aspects of life.

Brian claimed that one of my sons got it from a tournament over 20 days prior to my son showing any signs of impentigo... impentigo takes 4-10 days to manifest after exposure... my other son has never competed in a tournament. This gym is the only place they both could have gotten it. I asked again about their cleaning procedures and he still will not answer. The place is visably dirty with caked on dust where the display apparel. It looks like they are using packing tape instead of mat tape and that tape is filthy. All red flags. Oh! They also have a ridiculous superstition about not washing belts... no wonder skin infections thrive in this biohazard. Please do not support a business that doesn't take simple standard cleaning steps to protect you and will not duscl9se those steps to patrons. They are now being investigated by the health department. Aside from that, I seriously question the value of their instruction. I have seen 5 year old soccer practices run by volunteer parent coaches that appeard to be more organized than their belting ceremony...a ceeremony that should be routine... the staff did not seem to know what they were doing and the students seem to be out of control.

The instructors have really made a positive impact on our whole family. And they have clear, attainable goals for my son to achieve as he progresses through his belt ranks. I started my daughter with the school when she was 7 years old, uncoordinated and the farthest thing from physically inclined. Now, five years later, my daughter had poise, confidence, high self esteem, and had gained a lot of physical attributes including muscular arms and legs, balance, and coordination. Seeing my child succeeding and benefiting from her training gave me a strong desire to join her on her climb through the ranks. I signed up a year after she began, and saw the benefits immediately. Not only did I get a tremendous workout on a daily basis, but was constantly filled with pride in my own achievements throughout my training. Four years later I feel stronger, safer, more confident, more outspoken, more adaptable to change, more accepting of criticism, and more capable in all aspects of my life. Like my daughter I never thought of myself as physically inclined and was never into sports... karate is as much a sport to me as it is an art, a challenge and a lifestyle. I would not give up my training for anything. Thank you AOK for everything you've given myself and my family.

Both of my kids earned their Black Belts, and I'm still going because I like it so much! I lost weight, am in better shape than when I was in my 20's, and I can do things I didn't think I'd ever be able to do! I don't watch martial arts movies wishing I could do those things, I go practice them instead! Regarding the poor review, when people don't give their kids a chance for more than a month of lessons in ANYTHING, their kids won't learn much. Has anyone only given their kids 4 weeks of piano lessons and wondered why their kids didn't learn much? And, as an adult, never sign anything without reading it. It sounds like someone was looking for someone to blame rather than trying to teach their kids a lesson in hard work so they could actually earn something and start learning valuable life lessons. I wish they had given their kids a chance!
