I rarely visit these these places but I think it is worth letting everyone know be extremely leery of going to the location off of I35 and Runberg. Cashier 27 heavy set long dark hair "lady" was beyond rude and with a ton of attitude. I appreciate the location is in the hood but the attitude and lack of simple customer service is beyond her scope of understanding. Review your security She proceeded to escalate her attitude and how she was right and knows the owners and they are ok with her attitude. If you have to visit a planet k for any reason do yourself a big favor a drive a little further and avoid this location! Management really needs to provide better training to their employees. This would be 5-stars if it wasn't for the workers. This location appears incapable of retaining any quality ATX material as workers, but the two they have retained are as useless and cynical as they have always been. That said, this location is huge and has an insane amount of... everything. It's a head shop, and it's an awesome one. Energy drinks, pipes, hookah's, cigars, incense, sex toys, random Hindu weaves hanging from the ceiling... oh, yes, the list goes on. Their range of cigarette brands from around the world keep us coming back. It burned down in 2004, and came back in the bigger and badder store that stands to this day. I have been to other planet K before (round rock off of 35) but this location in my opinion is the best because of how friendly and very informative this one guy is and very welcoming. I like places where there is at least one person that goes out of their way to inform and educate. We were inquiring about the cbd products to see if they would be effective enough for our parents, which have some serious conditions, to take and be relieved from all the pain and anxiety. This review is for not a single Planet K store but the entire chain. They sell you things to use and then they can't sell you the replacement parts to continue using the things they sold you in the first place! They lie to you on the phone and tell you that they will get you the replacement parts and that their warehouse has them and two weeks goes by and you call back and they say their warehouse doesn't have them and doesn't know when they'll be getting them and that their other employee lied to me. These dudes are smoking way too much of their own crap to run a decent or efficient business! Most of them are usually jerks when you walk in the store, no matter what store, and they treat you as such. I am so done with this lame head shop - don't waste your money - go elsewhere! This is a tale of 2 stores. Both stores on the north bound side of 183 and the south bound side share the same yelp account. One store deserve 1000 stars, the other deserve a kick in the balls. I bought an item from the north bound store out of convenience as I was headed north after work. I bought an item and was told I had 30 days to return. After getting home and opening it, it felt cheap. I instantly had buyers remorse, but then I remember the chick at the North bound store said I had 30 days to bring it back. So I left to return it and upgrade. I stopped at the south bound store, the manager Arthur always has been able to nail down what I'm looking for. I've never had any problems at the other store, but Arthur seemed to suggest items that are more my style. Arthur suggested a new item but told me to return it to the north bound store across the street. Well I drive my happy ass over there. Of course the chick who sold me the item is gone. Some scrunchy face Andrew kid opens up the item I had purchased less than 2 hours prior. He walks it in back and magically comes back out and finds a hair line crack in the glass. And then says sorry they can't exchange it. Basically blaming me for the crack that I hadn't seen. He offered 15% off any item in the store but kept insisting there's nothing he could do. Really dirt bag? Had I come in after better inspecting it I would have been returning it for the crack, and not because some stoner car salesmen swindled me into a piece of junk. So I was pissed. I decided to blow that popsicle stand and give the bird to Mr. dumpster face Andrew and hit the U-Turn and give Arthur my money rather than scrunchy face or the grumet troll "manager" who didn't even come out from the back to tell me itself. I returned back to the south bound store, Arthur assumed they other store didn't have the item, I then told him what happened and he then returned the item and exchanged it, after inspecting the item and finding it was a f*cking hair and not a crack. So zero stars go to North Bound store and customer service, and all the stars go to Arthur at the South Bound store. If you find yourself reading this and you're not at the South Bound store, walk your happy ass out of that north bound store, get the hell out of that maze of a parking lot, hit that U-turn, and go see Arthur at the south bound store. They are the same damn stores, it's just a choice of good customer service vs. a troll filled store with high turnover and cowardly management that hides in back...on your way out knock over their bowl of little filters so they have to clean something up and do something for once. I never review anything, but trying to swindle me into buying 2 items was bullshit. And if your employee's don't know the policy maybe try teaching them the policies instead of have a collective idiot guessing game. Just go see Arthur, save yourself the hassle. Bought a hookah and when I got it home realized one of the hoses had some glue-looking substance on the end. It would not stay in as you smoked it, kept falling out and was unusable. So my guess is they grabbed the wrong hose and put it in this box. I took it back to the store to show them and see if they could replace it, and instead of being helpful at all they say to each other "looks like a dog chewed on it" and other variances of this kind of accusal without ever looking at me. I liked this store because it was full of neat stuff, at least more than what the planet k on 35 by the target had. I asked the lady what herbal blend would be best to get because I've tried a few and none of them had any effects on me. Basically the lady was very short and quick with her answers and pointed out the 'mad dog weed' blend. I've been smoking it in hopes that eventually it will have some effect, but I have yet to have any type of high from it. I agree with Kantiki. Bad customer service. The employees here should really embrace their opportunity to "keep Austin weird". Instead, they come across as a bit stuck up and jaded. It feels like they're tired of answering the same questions. Granted, it can be annoying and repetitive - but thus is the reality of retail. I guess when you apply at a headshop, you assume you won't have to work. That all being said: Planet K is a mecca of all things taboo. It's a great place to kill a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon... As with any local headshop, the merchandise is ridiculously marked up. Your best bet is to browse for pleasure and actually make your purchases on the internet (if you dare). The atmosphere, music, selection and decor get an A+. I hate to badmouth an entire staff upon just three visits, but I gotta do what I gotta do. The low morale is probably due to high turnaround and a limited pool of employees willing to work for the wages/benefits (or lack thereof?). I went into this shop to buy all natural insence on a weekday around 6pm. I got side tracked, remembering waaaay back in high school having seen someones "hidden" pipe. I had never been into a smoke shop before (i normally bought insence or hookah supplies elsewhere- until I moved to Austin because smoke shops weren't available in my area). NEway-- out of nostalgic curiosity I was asking about this certain style [metal pipe hidden inside of a highlighter's body]-- but they didn't carry it. They also looked at me like I was cRaZy for asking. So then I asked if there were other concealed designs, again I was just curious, and the staff acted all suspicious of me and said their products are only recommended for tobacco... ummm okay- all i asked for was a concealed style, nothing else. I'm pretty sure I didn't look like a crackhead or anything, considering I had just left the office. They wouldn't show me any other pipes, and didn't act like they wanted to sell me anything. I recently relocated from Seattle to Austin and I went to Planet K expecting a TX style smoke-shop....in other words, I was ready to be disappointed. I was wrong. This place is great and felt just like the smoke shops in the Pacific Northwest. Right on target! Tatianna helped me, she was GREAT. I'm super cool and broke my friend's ceramic hookah bowl so I had to buy her a new one. Traveled to Heroes first and they do not carry them. I hesitated to come here because of the bad reviews and pretty much thought it'd be a skeevy porn shop.... Yeah, no, this is like the best smoke shop in Austin (at least from the ones I've been to). I felt like I was back at home: High Times magazine, Bob Marley posters, rolling papers, pieces.... and they carried hookah bowls and accessories. Just had a legitimately horrible experience with this location. Asked for help from a gentleman behind the counter and didn't use the exact "phrasing" he needed. So instead of explaining and educating me with the correct information he looked me right in the eye with this "you're so stupid" look, said "I can't help you" and physically turned his back to me to assist another customer. While I understand some of the products sold here are of a sensitive nature, that is no excuse to embarrass your customers for not knowing. You are the experts, and it's part of your job to provide your customers with the assistance necessary for a successful shopping experience. I work in customer service myself and I know it can be frustrating when a customer can't accurately articulate what they need. However, if I didn't need your help, I'd be behind the counter getting paid to assist customers like myself. And I'd treat them with respect when doing so, for that matter. Totally mortifying, and I will probably never visit this location again due to this. Perhaps consider hiring more empathic people. read more

Bottom line, buy this crap online. Planet K off of research has a lot of modernizing to do...or if you don't mind the head shop mark up, go to the gas pipe, they will at least be honest. One of the number one most important things in business is trust. When an employee blatantly lies about what he obviously had nothing to know about, find someone who does, and don't tell me to go to another store when I can see your options, I just wanted details. I did not know my wife had also been there a day or so earlier to buy me the very same product for me for Christmas, It blew me away that she went to the same store purchased the very same product and then told me that their policy was to not give refunds but I could exchange it for something else but there was nothing I really wanted or needed. they REFUSED TO GIVE ME A CASH REFUND EVEN THOUGH I PAID CASH FOR IT. It's always a great day when ever I go to Planet K ! The exotic aroma teases your sense of smell upon entering, and the eye candy along with a vast selection of papers, pipes, mags, toys, candles ( umm, the candles are all on sale! just because they have lost all their fragrances) hydroponic equipment, incense, and tons more really keeps my starving wallet happy too. The staff really know their products, and were awesome putting me in the direction I need to go. I asked questions (lots) staff is really cool...has never been rude and I feel pretty confident they're know what theyre talking about. Kinda got tense though when I asked about herbs for "relaxation" or smoke of any kind. I wa sn't thinking, and I know how TABC operated on their visits to my restaurant, so I totally get it. The first guy who waited on me was the cool and suggested something I was shopping for, turned out to be the best bargain buy of the week !! Hard to go wrong with such a collection! The next guy (I think Jacob) had the time and perseverance to answer all of my questions on growing, dirt, fertilizer; and he had an all around positive energy. Planet K rocks! And it's a head shop, not the country club. So when I walk in, I won't ve go for the coinage on the floor, and if I want a bunch of pansy ass phony CSR to wait on me, I'll just go to Houston. I love coming here. I go in with my bf & we never have a problem with the employees. They are really cool & friendly to us. They have a really cool selection of stuff. They carry Juicy Herb/Juicy Jay's papers & herbal smoke, which is great stuff. I personally suggest Marshmallow Root & Proze Smoke with the Black Magic papers. They don't carry a few of my favorite incenses but that's cool. You can walk through that store 5 different times & find something new. I know I have. Two thumbs way up for this place. Give it a couple of tries & you'll see what I mean. read more
