I was a member at this Planet Fitness location for over two years. During that time, I parked my electric bike in the mall corridor just outside the gym entrance -- visible, out of the way, and never an issue. Eventually, mall security approached me with concerns. After a constructive conversation, I was told I could relocate the bike inside the gym, and I received explicit permission from gym staff to do so. However, on my next visit, I was publicly harassed by two patrons -- one shouted insults at me, and the other threatened to physically remove my bike. This all happened in front of staff, who did nothing to step in or address the behavior. Instead, they told me to remove my bike from the premises. I chose to cancel my membership -- not out of anger, but because I no longer felt welcome or safe in that environment. I also reached out to mall management, but received no response. Great, inexpensive and convenient alternative to pricier options that once monopolized options in this small town. Nice options for and availability of equipment, spacious location and much, MUCH cleaner facilities than the prohibitively expensive place I went to for years before. Diverse set of clientele ranging from college students to older folks - there's something for everybody here. read more

I am not member, but the unlucky person who picked a cool phone number only to find out that it used to be the Planet Fitness number for Ames, but the manager left and dumped the number. The current manager is no help says the info that goes to the bank is in an algorithm and she doesn't know how to change it, so my number goes out as the contact number when they withdraw your membership fees. I get calls every month of people trying to cancel. read more

This planet fitness should have a higher rating! I love this place. Everything is very clean; they follow COVID guidelines and have every other machine closed off to stay 6ft apart. They routinely clean and also have cleaning stations for people to clean their equipment after using it. The bathrooms are really nice- they have changing stalls and showers in addition to regular bathroom stalls. Plenty of lockers that you can always find a spot to use and an option to bring your own lock for them. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer any and all questions you have. The black card pass is totally worth it so you can go to other locations and use the tanning beds and hydro massage chairs. Having it in a mall was weird to me at first, but once you're in there working out you don't notice it at all. I'll be recommending this place to newbies or the consistent gym go-ers! read more

I have a complaint. I have already contacted the gym manager- was lied too and treated very rudely- I was directed to the customer service page on the web site- it never opens. I cant seem to find contact information for the owner, and when i call the number, they are only open Mon thru Thursday during the hours I have to work. they make it so hard to contact them with a legitimate complaint- makes a person wonder why? read more

Open 24 hours a day. Locker rooms are always very clean. The water massage tables are good. The stand up hybrid machine feels good. Need more staff. read more

Super workout center. I have been a member fir a long time and have never had an issue with the facilities or staff. The place is clean and friendly. There are always enough machines available and they sanitize non stop. I highly recommend Planet Fitness in Ames. Dave Duit read more

Don't waste your money. The staff is always talking to each other instead of helping you out. The gym is located in a weird spot in the mall. They are just not a gym you want to waste your money at. Oh and they'll refused to give you your money back when they were closed. read more

That "judgement free zone" thing is a huge lie. This is the most judgmental place you're likely to ever encounter. If you're looking for a place to actually work out, this isn't it. If all you want to do is walk on a treadmill for a few minutes then get the heck out, it will probably be adequate. If you actually want to exert yourself and exercise, and be comfortable doing it, then join a real gym and forget this place. read more

AMES, IOWA PLANET FITNESS. I'M FROM NEVADA, IOWA. Planet Fitness in Ames is amazing. I work out three times per week and have never been disappointed by the staff, service or environment. The equipment is always clean and disinfected. Locker rooms are spotless and the showers are cleaned down regularly. For a basic membership of $10 per month, it is a steal. If you upgrade to the black card spa for a few dollars more, the hydro massage pays for itself and it is amazing. I had a few work out sessions with the trainers and they are very knowledgable and help you reach your goals. I highly recommend PF. A class act with great service in mind. read more

Staff on Sunday mornings cleans the equipment thoroughly during their shift. Very helpful.

I thought it was a great gym but I have called tons of times trying to cancel my membership. The first time they convinced me to just freeze it. I didn't realize I'd have to call every month to keep it frozen. And I got charged. I called obviously and was told I can't talk to anyone hire up because they would just deny that I asked for a cancellation even though that's what I wanted in the first place. I thought we ended up getting it figured out and I took a loss on the money. Now months later I notice a charge from them. I get the same explanation that I can't talk to corporate in any way or explain my situation to them in any way. I try to not be upset cause I understand customer service is not the most fun job but at this point it just feels like they are stealing my money even though I couldn't have come in during the time they explained that I should've come in. Not only that I was completely under the assumption that my member ship was actually cancelled by now. It's a great gym but if you ever want to get out of it it's not even worth signing up for in the first place. It's awesome finding out I have $90 down the drain because of all of this. read more
