However, most of the staff and the owner are very friendly, and I enjoyed having Cayden as my trainer. The 24-hour access is a nice feature along with the chocolate milk. I did notice a lot of the gym-goers do not wipe down their equipment, which I'm guessing is why the employees put signs everywhere about it. So you might want to wipe down your seat before settling in for a superset. In summary, I had a good experience here, and if I had a friend who was a power lifter, I would refer them to this gym.

Extremely busy every time I go (sometimes 2, sometimes 6-7), when I started I went to the south main location and that was a mess, 6 squat racks isn't enough and if there's one open people race to it, same with free weights. Started going to the north location and its almost the same way, super busy plus less equipment than south. So on to the contract. For one why does a gym have a contract? I've never been to a gym with a contract, YMCA, anytime, strength shop ect. Why are you giving highschool/ college students contracts? So after not understanding the contract and still signing up (because I thought it would be a nice open gym and I'd stay), let me tell ya it's super hard to get out of it. Even after moving 25 miles away they still won't let me go! YOU HAVE TO MOVE 50 MILES AWAY, you could move all the way to Webster city and still have to come to Ames fitness. Completely stupid! It's so inconvenient for me now having moved away further from Ames and still being locked into this place. So thanks Brett Halverson for denying my request. I will try and let everyone I know not to come to Ames fitness. This gym is my worst nightmare. Do yourself a favor, go to strength shop, planet fitness or just something else.. All have no commitment.

I didn't try the kickboxing classes, although I wish I would have because they sound like a phenomenal workout, but we did do CrossFit three times. One day was an open gym style in the evening but they still program a WOD you can do - or work on your own thing which is a great complement to traditional training because we all have weaknesses and this is a great time to focus on some of those things, but the programmed WOD is always a good option too. The CrossFit class we did join was great. I have an injury preventing me from doing several movements but the coach made a quick adjustment for me so I could still join and have a really good workout. The box is spacious with new high quality and clean equipment (which surprisingly you don't find everywhere) and the programming was excellent. If I lived in the Nevada area I would totally join this box. I travel a lot for work and have visited several CrossFit's across the country and this is one of the best ones I've been to, I highly recommend them.

Along with things coming full circle and helping the kids coming in for Camp Hertko Hollow. I'm pretty proud of her. As a parent I've worked with the staff here for over a decade watching my daughter grow up partly under their care... I've watched her build friendships that don't just last a summer... They get together at each other's homes during the school year too...and if that's not possible thanks to technology they still keep in touch one way or another. We live close enough she still comes home now and then after camp breaks on Saturday and returns before it resumes on Sunday. She came home last weekend for a day and brought two car loads of kids with her. I believe they participate in the IENA program... Kind of an exchange program with international and North American camp leaders. I only got to meet a few of them. Two of her friends were from Ireland and one was from the UK. That was different...and fun! All great kids! The facilities are modern and kept up to date with periodic remodels. It's sure not the tent camping I was used to with Scouts. Now don't get me wrong... It's not going to be all sunshine and rainbows. Things happen with kids... Kids get homesick and some minor accidents etc. come with the territory. The staff here always deals with it well and involves the parents when needed. As a parent it can be kind of hard to let go and start to give your child that freedom... But I trust the staff and I know she's always been in a good place here.

The cabins were cozy and warm, almost all indoor spaces had a fireplace, the bathrooms were clean, the showers had hot water and the staff were friendly and helpful. Although the cold eliminated some water activities, there was still a ton to do. They offered archery, zip lining, guided hikes, climbing walls, horse back riding, sling shotting, arts and crafts, and a hammock farm! The meals were tasty and the dining hall was comfortable. The grounds felt safe and offered views of a creek and the Boone railway. There were plenty of spaces to just relax in nature and while the campgrounds are huge, most of the facilities are easily within a 5 minute walk of each other. I would love to return for family camp, or to send the kids for one of their many summer camp options. If you are looking for a place to host a family reunion, wedding, or event, I recommend checking them out. They have a space for almost any kind of event and their prices are very reasonable.
