One of my least favorite Anytime Fitness-es I've ever stepped foot in. Dingy. Staff are awesome though! Don't think this particular facility adequately or fairly represents Anytime Fitness. Their water from their faucets taste like you're sucking on an old copper penny you found underneath your couch cushions. Same thing when you wash your hands in the bathroom-- expect your hands to smell like metal afterwards. I wouldn't want to shower there. Some of the weight/resistance machines are so old they need to be replaced, thrown out, or better maintained. The tanning beds there are gross & dirty. You're being fooled if you pay to tan on these beds, not because of the health risks, but the quality and cleanliness of the beds. Seriously. Tan somewhere else. If you live around the area and decide to go to this Anytime, I would highly recommend you drive the extra miles to go to a different Anytime. read more

This anytime fitness is fairly small, about half a dozen treadmills, four ellipticals, and various weights. The upstairs is mostly wasted space with a couple ab machines, same lame aerobics DVDs, and the tanning bed. It's nice that there is a shower downstairs, which doesn't seem to get used ever. I prefer to get the sweat off me ASAP, especially in the winter when it is obviously not advisable to step putside when completely drenched. It's great that it is open 24 hours, but going at night is a little dicey. The parking lot is dimly lit, and there is usually nobody anywhere else around. Though Ames is generally a safe place, I would never allow my wife to go alone. I did ride my bike here a few times, but it's not recommended. There is no real bike path to speak of, so you have to share with cars; not great after sun down. I have never seen it packed. The most people I have seen inside were maybe six, and most machines are available no matter what time of day you show up. Pricing is pretty decent, and it gets you in to ANY anytime fitness in the US (and apparently a couple outside of the US) for the price of admission. Admission is cheaper here, at about $30 per month than at other Anytime fitnesses we looked at, so that is also a plus. Would I recommend this? It depends on what you are looking for. We needed a place with some treadmills and ellipticals to use to get out of acclimate weather. Being able to go to a nearby anytime fitness when we travel was also a bonus. If you are a student, or are looking for a REAL grade A gym, the ISU newly rebuilt in 2011 gym is the place to go. read more

I had a wonderful experience with the staff at the West Ames location. I went in to sign up for a membership only to find out a couple of days later that I had a membership to a different gym that was incorporated into my monthly rent through my property company. I emailed the manager/owner?, Stephanie, about the situation and she was incredibly kind and understanding of the situation. I was able to cancel my membership with no problem at all. Several of the reviews state it's too small, but I quite like the fact that it's on the smaller side. It is less intimidating for someone who may just be starting out. I felt very comfortable and welcomed at this location. If you're looking for a friendly and family style gym, I would 100% recommend this location! read more

This facility is poorly managed. The Wi-Fi never works, the equipment is always broken, they never pick up the equipment, the water is well water taste terrible, they charge for bottled water, the fitness center is small and crammed, in the winter time they put out a shovel and make members shovel the sidewalk and set out ice melt. "I have a great idea on how to get clients in the door! Let's put the gym in a sheet metal building, so there's no cell service, then not offer Wi-Fi! Everyone can bring their CD players and iPods!" -the owner of this gym probably. I don't do negative reviews, but this anytime is so bad, I had to let travelers, like myself, know to stay away. I'm sure locals already know, being as there was only 2 of us in the gym at 7 am. Unfortunately I've had to stay in Ames multiple times and Ames has like 3-4 anytime within 5 miles, and probably owned by the same person because they're all terrible in their own ways. This one takes the cake though. No cell service, no Wi-Fi, machines and free weights all mushed together with not a lot of options for machines, only one shower (with no sink or toilet Or mirror, so if you have to get ready in the am, be prepared to have to use two different bathrooms. Also people are definitely peeing in the shower with no toilet there.) And machines are so out of date they don't even function properly. I'm not a nit picky person, but holy f*** is this gym bad. I hope corporate anytime will step in and do something about the licence here. Or just consolidate all 3 gyms into one really nice gym. It's not worth ruining the anytime reputation. read more
