Eventually, mall security approached me with concerns. After a constructive conversation, I was told I could relocate the bike inside the gym, and I received explicit permission from gym staff to do so. However, on my next visit, I was publicly harassed by two patrons -- one shouted insults at me, and the other threatened to physically remove my bike. This all happened in front of staff, who did nothing to step in or address the behavior. Instead, they told me to remove my bike from the premises. I chose to cancel my membership -- not out of anger, but because I no longer felt welcome or safe in that environment. I also reached out to mall management, but received no response. Disappointed in how a situation involving clear communication and staff permission was mishandled, and how quickly it shifted into an uncomfortable and hostile experience.

Extremely busy every time I go (sometimes 2, sometimes 6-7), when I started I went to the south main location and that was a mess, 6 squat racks isn't enough and if there's one open people race to it, same with free weights. Started going to the north location and its almost the same way, super busy plus less equipment than south. So on to the contract. For one why does a gym have a contract? I've never been to a gym with a contract, YMCA, anytime, strength shop ect. Why are you giving highschool/ college students contracts? So after not understanding the contract and still signing up (because I thought it would be a nice open gym and I'd stay), let me tell ya it's super hard to get out of it. Even after moving 25 miles away they still won't let me go! YOU HAVE TO MOVE 50 MILES AWAY, you could move all the way to Webster city and still have to come to Ames fitness. Completely stupid! It's so inconvenient for me now having moved away further from Ames and still being locked into this place. So thanks Brett Halverson for denying my request. I will try and let everyone I know not to come to Ames fitness. This gym is my worst nightmare. Do yourself a favor, go to strength shop, planet fitness or just something else.. One of my least favorite Anytime Fitness-es I've ever stepped foot in. Dingy…read more Staff are awesome though! Don't think this particular facility adequately or fairly represents Anytime Fitness. Their water from their faucets taste like you're sucking on an old copper penny you found underneath your couch cushions. Same thing when you wash your hands in the bathroom-- expect your hands to smell like metal afterwards. I wouldn't want to shower there. Some of the weight/resistance machines are so old they need to be replaced, thrown out, or better maintained. The tanning beds there are gross & dirty. You're being fooled if you pay to tan on these beds, not because of the health risks, but the quality and cleanliness of the beds. Seriously. Tan somewhere else. If you live around the area and decide to go to this Anytime, I would highly recommend you drive the extra miles to go to a different Anytime.
