An actual smorgasbord of tunage... I asked for a few obscure artists who are no longer recording with the requested quartets... not from around here and boutique to boot... but the person searched everywhere and then went online as well! Couldn't buy better service. Since those two could not be found it proved a gratis practice... very appreciated!!! Great shop! We arrived soon after opening and the proprietor was wearing a mask. Everyone entering is required to wear a mask and only six people are allowed in at any time which is a safe and sensible choice. The selection was great, both new and used records, and we ended up buying quite a random selection of records. They also have a lot of CDs and DVDs. read more

This place is a small but solid place to search for records, DVDs, and the long forgotten CDs. The prices are decent on most of the selection, especially the used ones. I managed to find a hard to purchase Pixies CD for a mere $13. They also have a pretty good selection of sci-fi shows on DVD for some reason. I dig it. The staff here are chill and willing to help. One staff member in particular was nice enough to dig through this huge bin of archival CDs to search for this one album they had listed in their inventory but not on their shelves. The effort he put in was definitely appreciated and further solidified my customer satisfaction with this place. Also, if they don't have an item on hand they're more then happy to order it for you so make sure to ask before assuming they don't carry it. Happy hunting. read more

I always visit independent record stores when i travel, and I remember Plan 9 from visits to Charlottesville back in the early 2000s. back then they had two locations, an excellent selection of new and used music, and a very eclectic mix of other music related items...t-shirts, posters, etc. (A lot like a Newbury Comics store) While back in C'Ville for a few days in July, I managed to track down the last Plan 9 location in a tiny unit on the seedy side of the Seminole Square shopping plaza. (The Albemarle Sq address listed in their Yelp profile is incorrect. that location is closed) Once I got over the shock of the smaller space and selection, I started digging through the used records. Very impressive selection of music from a wide variety of genres. Ended up finding some excellent Texas singer-songwriter stuff that's impossible to find for reasonable money in Austin, and some very good condition 70s and 80s rock stuff. CD selection was great too...lots of hard to find regional stuff (Dirtball anyone?) and a respectable mix of the new stuff you'd actually consider buying. To sum up, Plan 9 is a smaller store these days, with less selection than in their glory years, but still a really solid independent record store. records! records! records! This place has such an awesome record collection. And I'm talking vinyl here. Forget thrifting to find a decent album when you can buy dark side of the moon for $1. No Joke. I actually bought that record so it's not there anymore BUT just the fact that I purchased it for a dollar rocks. These are not in prestine condition, but the records still sounds good. He even has a record player with head phones to test out all of your pickins. (He=owner=very helpful and friendly) They have new records coming in weekly. I have not spent more than $9 on a record and that was talking heads and a chuck berry anthology. Are you catching my drift? Go in there. read more

Plan 9 had a large selection of records however, the records varyin condition. The organization of the store also leaves a lot to be desired. If you plan to shop here be prepared to dig! That said, you can get some good deals. read more
