The creamiest ice cream I've ever had. Top notch! This little gem deserves your business.

The best ice cream with a flavor for everyone and fastest service anywhere. Wish it was sold in the stores. My favorite is the pumpkin in the fall. read more

Nice ice cream place with vintage environment. The owner said this place was built on 1952. The waiting line was long and for a good reason, thier ice cream is so delicious! We ordered 2 large ice cream cones with 2 balls each for total of 13 dollar. We tried french silk flavor which is a rich chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips. I also tried the salted caramel! Very good! I am coming back for sure! read more

The service and food was great but there were some flaws. I give this place a 3 because the food and service was good, but there was a spider in my food. I'm not the type of person to overact but a bug is a bug. read more

Prefect small town ice cream shop. Lots of flavor options and you can buy everything there in large format to take home with you.

Should you drive out of your way for this perfect ice cream stop? Absolutely! Family owned, kind, friendly, and efficient. Delicious ice cream, many flavors to choose from, and a perfect way to celebrate summer! Highly recommend this ice cream road trip! read more

Plainwell Ice Cream blessed me with the best ice cream I have ever had. The town is quite pleasant and inside the shop is quite special. I enjoyed my waffle cone and the creamiest most flavorful hand crafted cookies and cream ice cream with unique delight! I wish to spend time there again soon! read more

Love the ice cream, my family and I make it an annual tradition to go to opening day. Service is always good haven't had a single problem.

Can be busy but service is fast and always friendly. So many choices at times it is hard to choose. Pumpkin ice cream in the fall is the best and island city fudge is always a hit. Flavors do change but often for the good. read more

Where this place usually shines is in the variety of flavors they offer. There are typically some unique options on the menu for scooping like their 7 Layer Bar. The last few times we visited however, none of them were available. (The usual suspects are nice but nothing out of the ordinary and not worth the extra cost in my opinion.) I also dislike that you can't try any before ordering. How hard is it to provide those tiny plastic spoons like most places do for a small bite to make sure you like something before committing to it? The teenage help is generally polite despite the occasional eye rolls to one another when they think no is looking. (This occurred after asking if I could try a sample.) The place is clean and cozy but there is no indoor seating except for two small benches and most sit only while waiting for their order. All in all, they make good ice cream and being local, we like to support them. read more

Plainwell Ice Cream is the best. Currently closed for the season but during Spring Summer and Fall they offer a very broad selection of flavors plus seasonal limited time flavors. We load up before winter to protect against sudden withdrawal. read more

A plainwell classic! The service was super fast and efficient, and we had a fairly large party with complicated orders so lots of respect. Love that they have so many fun seasonal flavors. I ordered a split scoop of the pumpkin and salted caramel with caramel sauce and pecans! DELISH!! read more

Great ice cream, friendly staff. Owner was even opening the door for customers Sunday night. Been here a few times. It's a favorite!

Cute family owned ice cream shop. We chose it because it was rated one of the best in southwest Michigan. I had chocolate almond and it was very good. As said before not much of a place to sit but worth a stop if you are in the area. read more

Great ice cream. I especially love the pumpkin flavor available each fall. I picked up a 1/2 gallon recently and it was even better than a few years ago. In the past, I found some pumpkin vine pieces. This time it was quite smooth. Service was fast and friendly. I have not tried any of their other types of food. read more

Overall 10/10!! I have a dairy allergy and didn't expect there to be options for me, but there were! I explained my allergy and they took it very seriously and were so helpful and sweet. Update to the last time we went. We came back and I brought my dad. The staff was very opposite of the last time we came. We felt their attitudes and a sense of being rushed. They weren't even busy so I'm trying to figure out why they would rush out customers with no one else in line? Anyway, in a world where samples are obsolete now you should learn to be more patient when people are asking about the ice cream when you put ZERO descriptions in your store..but you weren't. I had hoped this would be our meeting place but guess we will give our business to dean's from now on. read more

Ridiculous. No samples. Went once walked out and never came back with family and friends. They lost 15 customers. Never heard of such a thing - this place should be avoided. But no competition - they don't care - oh well... read more

Delish ice cream! If you have to wait it's worth it - although the line goes pretty fast - so does the ice cream you order! :)

MASSIVE safety concerns. Here's the thing - they have my absolute favorite Cookies & Cream in the entire world. My husband loves their Mackinaw Island Fudge. It's cute and quaint and delicious. HOWEVER. This past weekend I ordered a scoop of Mud Pie (mmmm, so good) and a scoop of Cookies & Cream. She ended up mistakenly giving me Cookie Dough instead of Cookies & Cream. When I figured that out and notified her, she asked if I'd eaten any of it. I said no, I had just taken the spoon out and was licking it off, puzzled, because I was expecting Cookies & Cream. I thought she was just going to set it aside and an employee would get a treat later. But no. She took it back... walked over to the case... and scooped it out of my bowl and back into the tub. We. were. horrified. My sister can't have chocolate or caffeine, what if she'd ordered Cookie Dough, and it had some of the Mud Pie remnants on it? My son can't have egg, what if this is a regular occurrence, and we ordered him a flavor we knew didn't have eggs, yet it had been contaminated with another flavor that someone didn't want that they'd put back? Not to mention, I'd already breathed on it and had it in my hands, I don't think that's supposed to be put back in the case for another customer? Needless to say, I'm not sure we'll be back, and I'm quite saddened about that, because it's really good ice cream. Maybe we'll just have to get it from Spirit of Kalamazoo downtown from now on. read more

The reputation of this ice cream shoppe is entirely well deserved. I think it recently won first place for ice cream in 2017's WWMT's "Best of West Michigan" and that was a surprise to absolutely nobody. I have never had anything less than excellent there and the service is never less than attentive and thorough. Okay, I wish there was more outside seating because I hate eating in cars. And I wish ice cream was not so expensive. But most importantly, I wish the shoppe would move closer to where we live. My default item now is a large chocolate malt. A chocolate malt that actually tastes of malt. Fantastic. read more

If you live in SW Michigan, the coming of spring is heralded by certain events, like Oberon Day at the start of baseball season at Bell's brewery. Spring also brings the reopening of Plainwell Ice Cream in Plainwell, the best scoops in our region (but sadly closed in winter). With more than 30 flavors in ice cream, yogurt, and nonfat options, you'll find something sweet you want to take home on every visit. We go for butter pecan, pistachio, Island City fudge, and chocolate almond on a lot of trips, but the flavors change nearly daily. Regulars, please note: the installation of a new large freezer means even less space in the parking lot compared with 2018. Get there early! (Or pick up some by visiting Lou Niskers or other vendors in Kalamazoo) read more

This place is great, the most creamy and delicious ice cream with lots of yummy flavors. Expect a line as this ice cream is loved by all!

My all time favorite ice cream is Plainwell Ice Cream and is right in my home town!! There are so many things I love about PIC. My favorite ice cream flavors are French Silk, Cotton Candy, Butter Pecan, Pecan Praline, French Mint, Peanut Butter Fudge and Salted Caramel. I typically always order 1 or two scoops on a sugar or waffle cone. Once in a while I order it in a bowl. I also love their chocolate shakes. What I love most about their ice cream is that it's so creamy! They also have hot dogs. I love going for lunch and getting a hot dog and a scoop of ice cream. I love their ice cream so much that I always get their ice cream for our birthday parties!! When they're closed in the winter months I can still get my fix because our local grocery store sells 1/2 gallons of it. We love going to get ice cream after trick or treating each year as well. Not only is it fun because the employees are dressed up and you see so many families dressed up as well, but they offer a free scoop of ice cream to anyone who comes in dressed in a Halloween costume! This place is a family classic. It's tiny, clean, everyone is friendly, they let you taste anything before trying it and it's just my all time favorite ice cream shop. If you're in the Plainwell area, do yourself a favor and go get their ice cream! read more

Always great ice cream. Have been going here for years. The owner has always been extremely nice and helpful.

The people that work there is so nice the ice cream is good and the environment is good and is decently clean.

Stopped by after someone told us that this was the best ice cream in the area. Asked Sarah at the counter what their best-selling ice cream was. She said it was Island city fudge. Got it. Just creamy enough but not too creamy. Other two members of our party got butter toffee ice cream. Again very creamy not too creamy. Great value three cones large size waffle cones for under $12. The dangerous thing is is that we read they hand pack pints to take home. We wondered if one of their hand packed pints would last all the way to New York. It probably wouldn't make it out of town. read more
