I normally revolt against touristy restaurants, touristy bars & touristy tourists tastes.. However, PJ's oyster bar is an anomaly. It's touristy for sure, laid back beachy style right across from the beach, with dollar bills all over the place with a big sign at the entrance that reads: No Shoes, no shirt, no pants, no service! Ha! Well let me tell you something fellow Pirate Kin, I put my pants on twice to come here for these Chicago style Broiled Oysters pearls of the sea! Arrrr! :).... This place is super fun & the service is incredible! The young cute pirate waiter saw me coming the second time, ran to open the door for me, greeted me with a big warm friendly smile big as sunshine! "Back for more oysters already!" He says flashing that handsome wide pirate grin.. Sat me right down in his section & put me Chicago style Broiled Oyster order in right away, this time, full dozen baby! Arrrr! :)... Both times I visited, super clean Chicago style Broiled Oysters, no shells. Shucked & broiled to perfection OuiOui :)... They are so simple, just butter & Parma cheese. I always say the simple things in life are always the best & these Chicago Style Broiled Oysters are the BEST! You def want the full dozen! Arrrr! A must order OuiOui :)... First time dining at PJ's Oyster Bar and it was great!! We were with a large party and were able to fit right in with the restaurant being busy which was nice. The restaurant is very lively with cool decorations from floor to ceiling!! They have great music playing which adds to the great experience!! We finally tried PJ's Oyster Bar in Indian Rocks Beach after living nearby for years. Honestly, the lower star ratings had kept us away... and now I wish we had come sooner. This place has that classic laid-back beach seafood vibe with fun, colorful decor and really great outdoor seating. It feels relaxed and local, exactly what you want after a day near the water. The food was great! The seafood gumbo is outstanding. Rich, tomato-forward with just the right amount of spice and packed with seafood, vegetables, and rice. It's comforting and flavorful without feeling heavy. We also had fresh oysters that were clean, briny, and exactly what you hope for when you're this close to the ocean. My favorite was the blackened seafood combo. Perfectly seasoned shrimp and scallops with a beautiful crust from the blackening spices. Great flavor, juicy inside, and served with crispy house chips and slaw that kept the plate balanced and fresh. And a shout out to our server Nikki, who was fantastic. She was on point the entire time, super friendly, and brought such great energy to the table. Service like that makes the whole experience even better. If you've driven past and hesitated because of the reviews like we did, give it a try. It's one of those unpretentious local seafood spots that quietly delivers really solid food. Food was a 3/10, service and ambiance 7/10. Cute place but bad food. We had a party of 8 and no one liked their food except the 10 year old who got a cheeseburger. I would not recommend the shrimp or fish tacos, grouper nuggets, grouper sandwich, mahi sandwich, or gator bites since that's what we got and none of it was up to the standards of restaurants in the area. Wish I'd taken a pic of the $6 side salad which was just a bed of the white part of iceberg lettuce with only a mealy tomato and cucumber. Skip this place unless you're just drinking. read more

We stumbled upon this place while trying to find dinner (on vacation, large party, no reservation). They have a large parking lot which is such a perk because so many restaurants are on the street or have valet parking (which we found so weird). They accommodated 8 of us for dinner swiftly. My husband got clams and oysters and got the shrimp tacos, which were surprisingly not upcharged just because of the shrimp option. Food was very good! And they gave us to go cups! Would recommend for anyone looking for a chill vibe. read more

Early bird dinner at PJ's. It's been over 20 years since we've been here and we finally made it back. Living in Nashville, Tennessee does it to you. We can only remember the old restaurant across the street back then the food was excellent service was excellent and always great ambience. Today just confirmed ownership and management over this restaurant everything and I mean everything was as I remembered it the hush puppies with honey excellent. We had the Buffalo shrimp. I would say that in my opinion- patio is very nice but food is just ok. Not bad not great just OK. The oysters while tasting fresh were not shucked properly making them hard to eat. Pj's Oyster Bar in Gulfport was damaged by the hurricane and I hear tell it won't reopen. So I made the trek to this location in Indian Rocks Beach. 1dozen raw Oysters, 1 dozen Chicago style baked Oysters, and 1 vodka martini for $60 (including tip). Not bad except that the Chicago baked oysters were not very good. They actually tasted like they had been in Lake Michigan! I lived in Chicago for 57 years and never heard of Chicago Oysters while I was there, only east coast or west coast oysters. Next time I'll stick with the raw oysters. My dinner companions tried baked scallops and scallops in a garlic butter wine sauce. Both dishes of Scallops were tasty, well prepared, and presented. read more

The decor is fun for the eyes but the smell of sewage takes away from the experience. Service was fast and friendly. Fried beer batter sandwich was a large portion but lacked any flavor, not even the fish itself. Super bland. I am a huge sucker for oysters and I was so excited to try pjs oysters! I will say I was a tad disappointed when I got my baked oysters. The taste was great, super flavorful, but the size was tiny. I've ordered baked oysters for a while now, and I'm comparing them to others pjs was very average. Now the service was great and we had a super attentive server. We were sat immediately on a Saturday, early evening, which was a plus as well. I've been to pjs a few times and I have never had any issues with the services, but the food is usually sub par for what I am looking for. When it comes to the ambiance and the atmosphere of the restaurant I love it! It is retro and gives dive bar vibes! I still stand by one of their best meals is their grouper sandwich! read more

The only up side to this place was the server. He was on the ball and pleasant. The food was absolutely awful! Worst clam chowder I have ever had. Totally flavorless. The catfish was mushy and also flavorless. My kids enjoyed the gator bites. The restaurant was having a water shortage and they charged us for bottled water. We were seated outside near a fan which to us was much better than being inside with the strong fishy smell. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu, made great recommendations, and was very attentive. The food was delicious.
