We don't get Chicago-style deep dish often, but when we crave it, Pizza Papalis is the only place we go. We recently had their Chicago-style pepperoni and sausage, and it was phenomenal! The crust was perfectly flaky and buttery, and the sausage was incredibly flavorful--easily some of the best I've had. It's definitely a heavy, indulgent pie, but 100% worth it. If you are looking for authentic, hearty deep dish, this is the spot!

I've never had Detroit style before and I'm not mad at it ! I wish they seasoned the marinara but other than that 5 stars from me !!

Fantastic dining experience. I asked a lot of questions over the phone and they were very helpful. I really appreciate when people take the time for things like that. The food was exceptional. I personally like their Detroit style more as Chicago style is simply not up to par. Sad to see the Greek town location be closed still and likely not coming back but this is a close second happy to go again

Leftover but the cheese pull was impressive!

While visiting Detroit for the weekend we had to get pizza. They had a gluten free crust that my wife really enjoyed. (That is hard to find) I got a Chicago style deep dish. We door dashed the food and it showed up steaming hot still! I wish I had taken a pic fresh bc it was a masterpiece! The pic posted is actually leftovers we froze so we could bring them back home. It ended up being about 6 meals for me. The pizza weighed like ten pounds. It was $23 and well worth it!

Hands down the best in the city. I will drive out the way to pick up this order! Lol I looooove their pizza- OMG. and it's so fulfilling. We belong here cheese lovers! They are not skimpy with toppings and it's not your typical frozen pizza toppings you get elsewhere. Also, I don't know what they put in their wing sauce but honey bbq is fire!

Detriot style mama Mia meatball pizza CHEFS KISS Their phillys are pretty good but that detriot style is Note worthy. We ate there 2 days in a row and I made sure I flew home with some left overs. They must make their ranch in house as that wasn't no hidden valley and the ranch cups are HUGE. Never disappoints and the place is always steady flow of to go orders.

I haven't had pizza pappalis since moving from Detroit many years ago. Sadly the original Greektown location is temporarily closed but many of the satellite locations are still open. Missed those gut busting deep dish slices! Deep dish sausage and spinach: sometimes called "the Popeye". Came out really good! Love how they still do a layer of sausage and not just sausage pellets! Crust was what I remembered. Less dense and slightly flaky compared to Chicago style deep dish. I wish they would ship to Seattle but it's so heavy it would cost a ton. Cheesy garlic bread. Generous layer of mozzarella cheese and marinara for dipping! So good! Better if eaten on site but heats up nicely in a toaster. Chicago natives tend to hate this Detroit take on deep dish but this is what I grew up with so still love it. Service gets a lot of negative reviews here but I had no issues during this take out visit. Maybe ordering take out via Grubhub as I did is the way to go?

The misses and I headed up to Detroit for the day to visit a friend. Asked around what place we should go to for a pie. Multiple people said PizzaPopolis so we decided to give it a try. We've both had Detroit style before from Calientes and we love their 8 Mile Pie. We also wanted to try a Chicago Deep Dish. We ordered the Ultimate Pepperoni Detroit and a plain Chicago. It came out to just over 50 with the tip. We were told it would be about 20 minutes. I waited about 25 and headed back in to pick them up. I stood at the counter for at least 5 more minutes before the manager acknowledged me. He apologized and said they made the Detroit wrong and it would be another 8 minutes. He said he'll throw in the miss made Detroit for free. I headed back in after waiting another 10 minutes. I'm extremely disappointed in both of the pizzas. There was nothing ultimate about the pepperoni pie. It was a 6 cut pie and should have had "double pepperoni" according to the menu. Not sure how double equates to 3 or 4 slices per piece??? That's kinda skimpy for a 25 dollar pie!!! The sauce did have decent flavor, but the pie was dry AF. There was nowhere near a good amount of sauce on this pie. The biggest letdown was the Chicago!!! The crust mimicked bread. It wasn't crunchy or chewy. It was cakey and dry. The crust was also WAY TOO THICK!!! With the amount of bread and cheese it needed more sauce. It wasn't anywhere close to being balanced. If you decide to actually get a pie from here make sure you ask for extra sauce and avoid the Chicago all together. I honestly would have rather eaten Little Caesar's........

Fluffy bread and a pleasant crust, this pizza parlor introduced me to some of the better pizzas during my stay. I got the Meat Lovers and the Big Mack to try. The Meat Lovers is what you expect, just a good amount of meat to pair with the large amount of dough and cheese. It's a bit oily and heavy, so the Big Mack was actually my favorite due to the lighter nature and the accurate taste compraison to an actual Big Mac. Beer was also great. I've been getting into beer lately and wanted to try some Michigan-brewed beer and the options as well as the taste did not disappoint. Service was good. I let them know that I wasn't from Michigan and it was my first week there and they gave me a good run-down of the menu. Their recommendations were solid and they leave us unattended for too long. I wish there was a bit more table space at the communal tables, but there's only so much you can do with the size of the restaurant.

For a starter, the cashew Caesar salad ($8) was ordered. It came with mixed greens, house-made cashew Caesar dressing, fried shallots, and vegan parmesan. This was very tasty. It was unique with the fried shallot addition. The dressing was just enough. It all appeared very fresh and crisp. The cheese had somewhat of an odd texture, but not a big deal. For a meal, the lobster roll pizza ($45) was ordered. This was so unique that it had to be tried. It came with 6 oz. wild caught lobster, herb crème fraiche, celery and onion brunoise, Cape Cod chips, and chives with drawn butter and lemon. This was very rich, so the addition of the lemon juice and crunchy chips really helped offset that. It was also heavy due to the components incorporated. The lobster appeared fresh and there was plenty of it. The butter was not even needed, but solid for a slight dip. The crème fraiche was solid and different. The crust was crispy and great too. Will I go back? I would, yeah.

We sat at one where another group was sitting at the other end. The service was great and they constantly came outside to check on us and refill our waters and take our old plates away. We read and watched…read morereviews from a bunch of places and decided to see what the excitement was about Michigan & Trumbull. We researched the menu and decided to order ahead so that we could maximize our travel time. We arrived, and there was a small parking lot which was great since we had my elderly mother with us. I think there may have been additional parking across the street. We noticed there were picnic tables outside where people were eating pizza and upon walking in to pick up our pizza, we saw some limited indoor seating. We went to sit in a booth and were abruptly told that seating is not for "carry out customers," but we were welcome to sit outside. Ok? Their website said nothing about there being any seating, and after traveling four hours, we would have enjoyed some drinks and maybe some side dishes in addition to our pizza if the employees weren't so rude. They didn't even ask if we'd like to order something additional. So, we went outside to eat. The pizza was good, but honestly, nothing special. We ALWAYS order a cheese pizza so we can truly compare it to other pizzas. We ordered extra mozzarella on our cheese, and I'm unsure of how much cheese they normally put on a cheese pizza, but the extra cheese was no more than the other pizzas we ordered. We also ordered a pepperoni which had to the good little pepperonis that curl up. Yum! In addition we ordered a specialty pizza called "The Long Drive Home." It had vodka sauce, sausage and banana peppers. This was a crowd favorite. The sausage has incredible flavor and combines really well with the peppers and vodka sauce. I personally love vodka sauce. This one wasn't creamy like you find on pasta, but was good. Finally we did a white pizza with all cheese, ricotta and black pepper. It was also good. The garlic aioli could have a little more flavor. Not sure if there wasn't enough to taste it or if it just needs more seasoning. So, overall, the pizza is nothing special and I would recommend going for the special toppings before worrying about the extra cheese. The ambiance of the restaurant is that of many city restaurants--small, loud, nothing fancy. The picnic tables were fine. Thankfully it was not too hot and we were able to enjoy our time.
