I think it's unfair to rate places like Evviva the same way one might rate a typical "foodie"…read morerestaurant, so this review should be viewed relative to other chain, family-style restaurants. Evviva is spacious, service is fast, and food comes in generous portions. Three of us shared a roasted harvest salad, orecchiette, and a large hot honey pizza. A bit salty, oily, and overdressed, but the dishes were easily enough to fill all three of us and the food came out fast despite how surprisingly busy the place was on a random Tuesday night. Nice place for a family dinner or to meet with a big group of friends. We'll be back when the occasion calls for it because you know what you're going to get at this restaurant.

As for food, we had someone who is gluten free so they offer a separate menu, which I greatly appreciate. It's a full menu too, not just a few salads and such. They offer sandwiches on gluten free focaccia, meatballs, pasta, and such. We ordered the gluten free cheesy bread which was fine. Nothing remarkable. We also ordered the gluten free wings as appetizer. These were good. We ordered the bacon and Gorgonzola salad which was the best dish of the table. The chicken parmigiana (their specialty) was nothing special. Tasted like boxed pasta with jarred sauce. Chicken was average sized, pounded thin. Our GF diner ordered the meatballs diavalo (gluten free). Pasta was gummy. Meatballs were decent. Rating the food on its own, it's a solid 3.0. However with service and atmosphere, I gave a slightly higher rating

The service is always phenomenal, and it's great to see the same servers and bartenders every time we visit, it really says a lot about the restaurant and the team. Chef Peppino, Arbor and Brad, the bartender, are welcoming and so personable. The salads are always fresh and made with house-made dressings. The masala ravioli is absolutely wonderful and flavorful. There is no other restaurant that compares to that dish! The chocolate soufflé is definitely worth the wait. They also make their own limoncello, which is amazing! Delicious food, incredible hospitality, and a truly great dining experience!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was extremely disappointing and disheartening…read more We made a reservation a full day in advance and arrived on time. When we checked in, the hostess told us the only table available was a high-top by the bar. That would have been inconvenient for anyone, but my grandmother has advanced lung cancer and is very weak, so sitting at a high-top wasn't a reasonable option for her. We explained the situation and asked if there was anything they could do, but the response was essentially, "It's a rush, there's nothing we can do." We then asked to speak with a manager, and no manager ever came to speak with us. Instead a rude server basically telling us that it is what it is. I understand restaurants get busy, but if you accept reservations, you should have an appropriate table available when guests arrive. At the very least, I expected some empathy and a manager willing to discuss the situation. Instead, we felt dismissed. It wasn't just the seating issue. it was the lack of customer service and compassion that made this experience so disappointing. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this restaurant based on how we were treated to ANYONE.

Some restaurants serve great food…read more A few become part of your family's story. Eight years ago, we left Boston for Los Angeles. Of everything my daughter missed, there was one dish she talked about more than any other: the Penne Gorgonzola at Carmelina's. Not friends. Not the Red Sox. Not even Boston itself. The penne. We recently returned to work the Feast of Saint Joseph, and before we unpacked, before we did anything else, our first meal had to be at Carmelina's. The look on my daughter's face after that first bite was worth the trip. She ordered her long-awaited Penne Gorgonzola. I stuck with my longtime favorite, the Brasato. Then the friend we brought along ordered the Bolognese Fettuccine, and despite repeatedly calling it "bolo-ga-knees" and bleeding my ears, accidentally introduced me to my new favorite dish on the menu. The addition of whipped ricotta completely changes the bolognese, adding a richness I never knew it needed. We finished with limoncello, a very happy daughter, and the best kind of dinner bill... ...one paid by someone else. Is there a better ending? Eight years later, Carmelina's is still my favorite restaurant in Boston and comfortably sits among my top five restaurants anywhere in the country.

There was no valet service, and the parking lot was already full, but we found a street parking spot very close to the restaurant. We were seated immediately at a window table overlooking the pond, one of Alicante's nicest features. We've dined here many times over the years, although our last visit was disappointing due to sluggish service. Fortunately, this evening proved to be a return to form. Ice water, wine, and warm bread arrived almost immediately as our attentive three-person service team got us settled. While the evening specials were tempting, we opted for two longtime favorites from the regular menu: Piccata di Pollo - $27 Shrimp Scampi - $29 Total with wine and tax: $84.53 Our entrées arrived promptly, hot, and beautifully prepared. The chicken piccata was exceptionally tender, complemented by a bright, flavorful lemon-butter sauce. The shrimp scampi featured perfectly cooked shrimp in a classic butter and garlic sauce that was well-balanced and not over-seasoned. As always, the portions were generous--enough that some of the chicken accompanied us home. After one less-than-memorable visit, it was nice to see Alicante back at the top of its game. Excellent food, attentive service, and a beautiful setting make this a restaurant we look forward to visiting again. Tip: Even though Alicante is on Route 16, you can park along the road. Be careful exiting the driver side, it's a very busy road.
