Investors: buy this distressed business and fix it. Serve beer and make a decent spicy BBQ sauce. Simplify the menu. Keep the servers. It was the day before Thanksgiving and it was a sunny day, so a short road trip was in order and this was the destination. I hadn't been to dear old Excelsior Springs in quite some time, so I was game. Although the tiny former train station is just another nondescript red brick building on the outside, the spacious inside has wonderful old-timey vibes, right down to the waitress in perfect 1950s drag makeup. We arrived around 2pm. It wasn't empty, so that was something. The first sign of trouble was the long menu with a lot of non-barbecue items for such a small place, including fried catfish and a fried chicken sandwich. I discounted this because my mother had been excited about the fried mushrooms. The second sign was that my parents only ordered the long ribs, even though they like brisket. Note: order what the experienced order. The ribs were fine--not too dry and falling off the bone, with a mellow smoke flavor. But it's hard to mess up ribs. My burnt ends were overcooked except for a few pieces, and a couple pieces were actually carbonized rather than caramelized. A travesty in the region responsible for the delicacy! The brisket was as others have described: dry, thinly-sliced. Decent but not exceptional flavor. Certainly not the tender, moist, barbecue brisket I was hoping for. I regretted eating any of what I ordered--it gave me a terrible stomach ache into the next day, despite skipping dinner and drinking a lot of hot mint tea. Rancid oil used for frying? Or just tough meat? Whatever, I learned my lesson! As for the rest: Fried (sliced) mushrooms -- fine, not over-salted, served with a light ranch sauce in a squeeze bottle. Easily enough for four people. Beans were sweet with some bits of pork in them. Possibly out of can. Cole slaw was extremely sweet and finely chopped, almost like a while salsa. Potato salad was good but nothing special.

I was hoping with this new location maybe food would actually be ready for pickup during the time stated on the website. I waited probably an extra 10 min for my food but I came in during the time I was given. I ordered a large fry and It was the smallest amount of fries I've ever gotten from a large order from other locations. As for the wings, I ordered 10 bone in wings for me and 10 for my s/o. 9 of my 10 wings were drums i got 1 single flat in my order... flats are my preferred wing and not even getting close to a 50/50 mix of both is nuts to me for a wing place. Disappointed but not surprised.

The staff were nice enough, no complaints there, that's where the good times ended. It's small and divey with very little seating and when you get your food it's packaged up like you are taking it to go so it seems that they don't want you to stay and eat in which is made even more apparent by the fact that they don't even have bins for you to dispose trash. To add to this already disappointing visit they treat their wings like most KC BBQ, which is to say they rely on the sauce way too much to make the meal and even the thick coating of what I assume was margarine and parmesan cheese for one sauce and Dave's insanity sauce mixed with vinegar for the atomic wings sauce, even that couldn't cover up what tasted like rancid oil and I wasn't sure if it was the sauce or how they cooked the wings. Basically if you want wings for now if you are up in the Liberty area ... you are still stuck with Buffalo Wild Wings as the best choice. TLDR, don't eat here.

Health & safety concern: This specific location puts the…read morehot wings directly on top of the black styrofoam box instead of the parchment Wingstop paper that they are supposed to place it on. This causes CANCER. They have been reported to WingStop Corporate and DoorDash. The next step will be the department of health, and if by then they do not stop this negligence, there will be legal action. In the past I have seen the employees mixing the wings with sauce/flavor in the black styrofoam boxes instead of using the stainless steel tossing bowls that they are supposed to use. I asked why they are doing that and the response was: "We don't usually do that, we're just trying to do it quick because we got a lot of orders right now." Customer service issues: The workers (including the manager) refuse to identify themselves over the phone by giving their names. I had no way to explain to Corporate who I spoke to, because the workers and even the manager would not identify themselves. I could not properly reference to corporate who I spoke to. The call was recorded and will be shared with Corporate instead. Order issues: Other than potentially causing their customers CANCER by putting hot wings directly on top of the black styrofoam box and trying to save a piece of parchment paper... They don't know how to count/read - I have frequently been given the wrong quantity of wings. They do not toss the wings with sauce properly (wings are not proper covered in sauce/chosen flavor). The fries are browned (they are overcooking the fries so the deep fry oil is going into the fries, extremely oily) they do this EVEN IF you do not select the "well done - Extra cook time" option, it's automatically done if other customers have ordered that, you get the same fries, from the same batch regardless. The owner of this Wingstop franchise does not seem to care about consumer health, customer service, or even following the franchise policy. Getting too comfortable? Do not give your money/business to this location. They're giving you CANCER without you even knowing.

We decided to go try it based on several reviews, and we were not what I would call anywhere near impressed. We had the tenderloin and fries and the catfish and fries, the highlight was most definitely the tenderloin, but I would not call it spectacular. The breading, size, tenderness, flavor, were all good, but not what I would call exceptional. The evening we were there the fries had no texture, and minimal flavor. The catfish nuggets were sadly among the worst I've ever had. Judging by the multiple reviews, I have seen that say that this is not the norm, I do plan to go back and try it again! I do truly hope that it lives up to the expectation that I have from the reviews I read.
