When you've been away from home more than two weeks with a 9-year old, you get to a point where you want something non-controversial, inexpensive and comforting. For us, that meant pizza.
Pizza Geeks is tiny, as in seating for 15 to 16 in their storefront. If you want to make sure you have a seat, call ahead and let them know you're coming. We lucked out, and our party of three sat at the street-facing bar - all other spots were taken.
My son ordered the Luigi (minus the basil) and added pepperoni. I also did the Luigi, but kept the basil and added pepperoni and mushrooms. The toppings were generous and flavorful - no complaints there. The sauce was delicious - terrific tomato flavor, and gently spiced. But then there's the crust: On the outside and the edges, it's terrific, but in the middle, it was soggy. Not sure what happened in the middle, but it was wet, wet, wet. Definitely had to use knife and fork for the first half of each slice in order to get to where it wasn't floppy and drippy.
The husband had the G.O.A.T. and deemed it good, but it was missing something (he couldn't put his finger on it, but he said it didn't seem complete). His crust wasn't as soggy in the middle, but he, too, had issues with we crust in the middle.
Bottom line: The flavors are (mostly) there, but needs work on maintaining consistent crust texture throughout the entire pie. read more
