    An interesting idea, a cool location (in more ways than one) and some tasty food - a fun way to spend a Saturday night. The Section 33 pop up is here for one weekend only (but I don't think it's sold out so you might be able to head along today if you're lucky!). Eating in Govanhill Pool was a bit of a novelty but rug up - it is seriously chilly down there! My favourite dishes of the night were the burrata with Clyde Valley Tomatoes (these tomatoes will blow your mind, they are so flavoursome and delicious), the fish taco was tasty and the venison mole empanadas were also pretty good. I didn't love the beetroot dish, the beetroot overpowered everything else and the rice just seemed like normal white rice rather than puffed rice as described on the menu. I had the peanut butter choc chip cookies for dessert but wished I hadn't bothered as the Nutella cream cheese was a little bland and the cookie could have been a stronger peanut butter flavour for me. There was cocktails available in his and hers options - a gin and rum option. I have no idea which was meant to be which but the rum was the far better of the two and not bad value at £5. I was disappointed to see a 10% service charge added to the bill when I'd not seen any mention of this beforehand. Perhaps it's because we were a table of 7? Either way it meant it was about £70 between two for the meal out which puts it in the very pricey category and I'm just not sure the food lived up to the bill.

    The latest venue for the pop up was the Brittania Panopticon. It was a lovely, really interesting venue. However, it was dead cold in there and they warned attendees to bundle up for the night. Here's the problem with serving hot food in a cold venue - your food is lukewarm by the time it gets to your table. While I enjoyed the flavours, the temperature issue really affected the overall experience. The prices seemed a bit high for the size of the portion, but the food was clearly well made. We had one of the earliest bookings, as I made reservations really, really late. As such, the live entertainment started right as we were finishing our desserts. The guy was really talented and I wish we would have gotten to enjoy his performance a little longer. Alas, by the time he took the stage, we were just ready to go thaw out somewhere. I'll definitely give Section 33's future events a shot, but I really hope next time they pick a climate-controlled venue!

    I've been debating on how to best formulate this review. It's different. It's out there, it's, well, expensive. (£5 to book your seat, and then per person, with two tapas dishes and a drink each, £30. £30!!!!!) And cold (but I am chronically undercooled, so in that regard it wasn't too bad). Having had the Panopticon on my List of Glasgow places to see, I was thrilled when I found out that the pop up was being held here. The menu looked decent too - I was interested in many of the items. But then I realised that it said that they were more like tapas dishes - sharing is caring, you get my drift, and a frown spread over my face. We walked in, happy to be there, and it smelled like deep fried food - I was intrigued. We grabbed some blankets (woo for IKEA) that they kept next to the entrance, and were shown to our table. It's eclectic, it really does look like a pop up, chairs and tables mismatched and splintery. I immediately wrapped myself in the blanket (cold bum - not a nice feeling). We ordered drinks and were given water and kinda picked some items from the menu. I went for the falafel (which all three of us ordered, because there is no way you can share the falafel), and the scallop, duck and pineapple thing. Now, how on Earth you're supposed to share ANY of the dishes is beyond me. They are tiny. TINY. The falafel was tasty, but the hummus is incredibly acidic (too much lemon, perhaps?). The duck tasted like your run-of-the-mill Chinese takeaway duck, and the pineapple is literally a chunk of pineapple. The concept of the dish being served in a coconut shell is nice, but it doesn't work because it kinda gives the food a dusty taste. The lighting is horrible too, either it's too bright because you're staring directly into the light or it's so dark that you're lifting the coconut shell into the air to try and get the food on the fork. The one redeeming thing, and why I give this place 2 stars is the "giant" (not so giant) salted caramel profiterole. It's caramelly salted goodness. But they do serve it with cress. Cress on a caramel. Cress on a profiterole. I don't know, there is really no need.

    Excellent popup restaurant in the south sides much loved Govanhill Baths. How could I resist the temptation to say I had dinner in a swimming pool! Very friendly reception from staff with a choice of cocktail or beer on entry. Escorted to our table by lovely chatty greeter staff. Very attentive waitresses who manage to get the balance perfect by gliding past and offering drinks and desserts when needed but not interrupting the meal. Lovely acoustic live music. Absolutely amazing menu, lots on offer to try but not too long and inducing choice blindness. All in all a perfect evening, wonderful staff and menu, and a date night to remember.

    I know that a good few of the reviews on here are talking about the price of the food at section 33. I'm going to start with that and get it out the way. Yes, the dishes are not cheap. But this year, you were paying for the experience of dining in the Panopticon which I feel is kinda priceless. How many people can actually say they've eaten dinner in a gorgeous, original Victorian music hall? Also, yes it was cold. It's a listed building. There will have been so many regulations about what heaters can actually be used. I just made sure I layered up and used my scarf as a blanket, although ikea blankets were provided. The venue itself is stunning, the silent movies and live musicians were a nice touch and really added to our evening. Some of those silent movies are hilarious! Genuinely funnier than half the comedies out these days. Fairy lights and an incredible singer song writer also added to our experience. Anyway, enough about that and onto the main reason for this event.... The food! I had 3 mains: Vietnamese rice paper rolls - packed with flavour but I only managed one of the two rolls served as they were surprisingly filling; smoked and cured shaved beef - wow, the flavours from this were incredible; and my favourite chilli and soy caramel chicken wings - a good sized portion of wings (I had about 6 in mine) coated with the most heavenly glaze ever... Almost ordered a second portion! For dessert I had the salted caramel profiterole.... Actually, I had 2 because they were SO GOOD that we needed to order a second round. In interests of fairness, I also tried both the cocktails on offer and,once you get over your cocktail being served in a paper Coke cup, they were both incredible. Mmmm! It's been a week now and I'm wishing this hadn't been a pop up, I'd kill for more chicken wings or another profiterole...

    Top notch night - great venue, great food and had a chat with the organiser who was a very passionate chap indeed. The red deer main was the stand out dish. If you can get a table, go!

It's only open on a Saturday but it was pretty busy while we were there, so it's obviously popular. I didn't buy anything on this visit but I had a nosey and was impressed with the range - there was a couple of designer pieces as well as good accessories like shoes, hats and bags. It's a lovely shop which is well worth a visit if you're in the area (or even make a special trip) - and it's handy for Redmond's next door and Nakodar over the road if you're with someone who's not into charity shopping!

This beautiful second hand and vintage shop offers fantastic clothes, accessories and trinkets at prices that'll please even the most thrifty of second-hand shoppers. And you'll receive the most friendly of welcomes from lovely owner, Ruth. There's lots to see and it's all very organised and displayed so beautifully. The quality is superb, with many items new with tags on for a fraction of the original price. I like that there are departments that call for a good old rummage, with a box of trousers and shelves of knitwear. What is second-hand shopping without a search for treasure? - The Corner Shop is one big trove, and makes for an exciting browse. I left with some lovely green handmade knitted gloves and a gorgeous ring and bracelet. The total was a jaw-dropping five pounds! - An undoubtable bargain. Oh, and I left with a smile too, because today I discovered the Corner Shop and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

They had an excellent choice for a small menu and catered well as Peña has no kitchen, so it's all in the prep. This was The Breakfast Club so had the choice of fresh pancakes or southern grits. I had never had grits before but the pancakes sounded amazing. I opted for the wholemeal pancakes, blow-torched with brown sugar bananas and coconut mascarpone. Oh man it was just heaven. I decided on a wee cheeky mocha from Peña to add to my sweet breakfast. Why not?! It was a lovely experience and I would definitely look out for another Chompsky event soon.

They had a small table set up on the street and on offer was American themed sweet, baked goodies. They had S'mores; 2 different types ~ peanut butter & jam or salted caramel and banana. Also on offer were Blondies (coconut & orange) and Pumpkin Cheesecake Brownies. Yum. All sounded lovely and all priced at £3. We went for one each of the P&J and salted caramel & banana s'more(s) and also I couldn't resist the brownie as I do love a good brownie and cheesecake so combining the 2 is just genius! The s'mores were finished off in front of your eyes with the addition of mini marshmallows and a blow torch. Having never eaten one of these before I was most intrigued...my boyfriend said his P&J one was brilliant and I did like my caramel & banana one but I can't say a s'more is something I would crave (s')more of (haha!). The brownie was really good ~ not quite enough of the pumpkin cheesecake in the slice I had but what I had of it was truly delicious. Maybe could've done with being a tad more moist, but that's just my preference. I am a fan of blondies (being a natural blondie myself, ho ho!) but I prefer the more brownie textured ones as opposed to the cake-like ones. So I didn't buy one of these although the combination of cocnut & orange does sound good. Nice people & lovely eats ~ just what we needed on a Sunday afternoon.

    I'm honestly not sure how to begin describing an event that was probably one of the strangest but…read moremost brilliant I've experienced. It started with a seven course set menu and ended with a man standing on a table playing a saxophone along to house beats in the middle of a bar. Sounds fun, doesn't it? This pop-up street food event was created by 'Mad Chef' - the resident chef at Bar Bloc on Bath Street. For the first time, he decided to create a New York inspired evening of street food, music and fun! The event was hosted by Mini Bar, a tiny, club-like venue that squeezed around thirty people in for this incredible event. The first two courses came as one, consisting of Smoked Corn Chowder and Mad Falafel - fried falafel balls fused with coconut and peanut butter. The chowder, which I didn't expect to like, was salty, smokey and filled with chunks of soft potato and pancetta. The falafel balls were a huge hit with everyone, containing whole peanuts - no processed peanut butter here! Served in street-food style cardboard trays, the food tasted and felt authentic, even the salad garnish was delicious! The next course we ended up waiting quite a while for, but the atmosphere of the place was fantastic and a big screen in the bar was linked to a camera in the kitchen which showed a massive set of decks in the middle of the kitchen, with Mad Chef bouncing around trying to get everything done. When the next course did come out, it was worth the wait, thought not for the faint-hearted! It was the 'Park Slope Patty' - a beef patty with salted caramel, habanero puree, caramelised onions, American cheese and the usual relish. I think it was pretty brave he decided to serve such a spicy burger as so many people just don't do chilli, and this was pretty hot! The great thing was, though the habanero puree was hot, the other elements of the burger helped tone it down and the sweetness of the salted caramel & onions complimented the spice perfectly. Next up, the Vendor Dog, which was one of my favourite courses but also by far the messiest! A little hot dog in a mini brioche bun with fried chilli onions and classic ketchup & mustard. So much flavour in such a little bun! The final savoury course was the Cuban Pork Taco - pulled pork on a tortilla with wedges of fresh orange, lime and a dollop of sour cream. The pork was succulent and delicious and the zesty freshness of the citrus fruit was inspired! The desserts were soon whizzing their way round the room, starting with mini strawberry meringues and home made honeycomb. The honeycomb was fantastic and the meringues were certainly not mini! They were quickly followed by the final course - 'Hubba Bubba' bubblegum ice cream with popping candy. It really did taste like hubba bubba and the little flecks of popping candy added crunch and a bit of fun! By this point it was 11.45pm and I was fit to burst, but the night was far from over! The Mad Chef himself came out to say hello and thank us - using as many profanities as humanely possible - and to let us know that soon, a live saxophone player would be standing on a table in the middle of the room, playing along to the dance beats still coming from the decks in the kitchen. Well, that's one way to end an evening! Just after midnight, with the sound of saxophones and swearing lingering in our ears, we piled out of Mini Bar and headed home. Mad Chef did a fantastic job creating an inspired and delicious menu, all the while mixing tunes and keeping his guests entertained. I can't wait for the next one!

Initially I was confused as to the reason why he decided to call this little pop up venture "Audio Beef" but it all became very apparent when I stepped foot into Mini Bar. If you were after a quiet candle lit meal and a relaxing chilled out soundtrack to enjoy your 7 course feast well, you may have been a tad disappointed. Instead, Mad Chef and his posse managed to create a club vibe within the tiny Mini Bar. Not content with serving up some 30/40 people with 7 courses of punked up New York style street food, Mr Chef decides to blare out LIVE 90s style Chicago house & disco tunes all night with actual decks set out in the KITCHEN. Accompanied also by a LIVE sax player who got jiggy on the table tops at the end of the night, which made for one the most exhilarating dinners I've ever had. Its fair to say the man's multitasking skillz are other worldly. The dj-ing was spot as the chefs cooked away. All this was relayed out to the punters over a live feed on a big tv screen in the main bar. Its fair to say Mad Chef and his posse were having a right good time dancing about, playing cool retro tunes and, somehow, incredibly, dishing out some top notch grub. So I think I've set the rather interesting scene by now. In order to get into the groove it was probably best to grab a few drinks and go with the flow. At first, I must admit, I was a little unsure, but, as everyone started to relax and get into the spirit of things, it turned out to be one hell of a fun night. Right, onto the food! The menu consisted of 7 small plates, almost tapas style so you could get a flavour for everything without, I guess, getting totally stuffed. The menu was kinda New York / Americana inspired but with some pretty major and inventive twists. Take for example the wonderful corn chowder, but infused with some smokey pancetta, or the falafel with peanut butter and coconut, or Hubba Bubba ice cream with popping candy. My favourite dish of the night however had to be the Park Slope Patty burger with salted caramel and habanero puree. The burger packed an almighty chilli kick but was somehow balanced with an amazing sweetness. Its fair to say everything tasted wonderful and, with the last desert not getting dished up until 23:30 I'm glad I wasn't completely stuffed and bloated by the end of the night. It really was the perfect amount of food all served up by the wonderfully charming and friendly staff of the Mini Bar. If you want to try something totally unique, in terms of food and surroundings then this is the night for you. Mad Chef tells us that street food is all about soul, partying, getting to meet and mingle with new people and the man has a darn good point! This was a fun packed night that will definitely live in my memory for a long long time. A resounding 5 stars to you Mad Chef and your most excellent 'Beef Audio' night!
