Ok, here we go... In Eau Claire Wisconsin on business and Yelping to find an acceptable place for a…read morebusiness dinner with good friends. What pops up?? Mona Lisa! Asked some locals as well and the consensus was confirmed. We arrived early and spent an hour at the bar conversing with the staff. All friendly, all funny, all helpful. Popped over to the attached vintage antique/clothing store and found a cool shirt! The 6 of us sat down just after 6pm and started our culinary feast. Multiple appetizers, all fabulous including the Brussels, the Artichoke Hearts, the Pork Belly, the Focaccia Bread. I had the Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Chicken and quizzed my companions on their dishes to an enthusiastic thumbs up. There was the Gnocchi, the Carbonara, the Parmigiana.... All a solid YUMM! How was the service??? Top Notch? 5 Star?? Yes! Thank you Grace for honoring us with your fantastic service, attentiveness, humor, and smile! The atmosphere was also beautiful, soft, homey, nostalgic. If you are ever in Eau Claire, don't miss out on this amazing restaurant! Cheers

Cool place, but I have share my disappointment…read more First of all BEWARE of the automatic 18% Tip! The amount didn't bother me, in fact I always tip more than that! it's that no one told me it was there! I'm sure it's on the menu, but the writing is so small on their menus that I really couldn't read the meal description, much less the add tips message that might have been on there somewhere! But either way, I do think the staff should share this information when you get the bill. I've read other Yelpers that didn't see this and unknowingly added an extra 20%. Second, it's very loud in this restaurant, at least at the bar where I ate. A number of large tables are located in the bar area and with the wood floor and high ceilings it amplifying the normal discussions. it was really hard to hear or understand the bartender. (It might be better in the actual dining room). Didn't feel like drinking tonight, so I had an iced tea. Have to say this is one of the few places that I know of that charges for tea refills! (Once again not shared) Nobody (staff) that worked here had a smile in their face. Everybody seemed to be walking around with blank expressions. Sitting at the bar I got to see most everyone that worked there and no one looked like they wanted to be there. My bartender did check in with me to see if I enjoyed the first few bites of my app and then my meal and then again when she gave me the bill. Lastly, the food was not great. The Frites (fries) appetizer was way overdone. The fries were very crunchy and maybe would have been tasty if they were not so crispy. And at $13 they were way over priced. Definitely not worth it. My Merlot Beef was also sub par. The picture on the website shows a nicely presented pasta dish, (in fact I had it picked out before I came). but what I was served was more of a beef stroganoff swimming in a brown gravy-like sauce. . The meat was also overdone, lacking flavor and chewy. This meal should have been served with a spoon, not a fork! Please bring back the chef that made the meal in the picture on your website... that looked a lot better!! I came here on a recommendation from a local, but this was a major let down! Maybe a bad night? Maybe I made bad meal choices, because on the website menu everything looked very good. I did see a lot of people eating flatbread pizzas. That might be your best bet.

The food is spot on. Steak and seafood. I've always have outstanding service. Half price bottles of wine on tuesdays. No longer have Pilsner Urquell on tap (boooooo). Everything else is good. Street parking can be a challenge. Downtown town Eau Claire is parking challenged, but not the restaurants fault.

Our server, Gracie, was phenomenal in all regards, and from now on I'll always make reservations and request a table in her section. We weren't insanely hungry so we skipped appetizers, soup, salad. My husband order the Chicken Tchoupitoulas and I selected the medallions of beef with bernaise sauce. My guy's chicken was addictive; I only got a little nibble but I'd be hard-pressed not to order it from now on. The Chicken Chop was flavor-forward, with succulent chicken and veggies. The medallions I selected were cooked medium rare as requested, juicy and tender, but lacked seasoning. The mashed potatoes that were on my plate needed more butter and/or gravy. I think the big issue with this place would be parking, as it's in a high-traffic area and doesn't have it's own lot. Even going for dinner as early as we did, street parking was scarce.

"Ma Na Ma Nah...do doo de doo doo--Menomonie!" (The Muppet Show)…read more Statler: "Is she singing? I thought she was choking!" Waldorf: "At her age, it's hard to tell the difference! DOHOHOHO!" If you just sang that ditty in your head like the Muppets, you're already in the right mood for a visit to the Menomonie Food Co-op Market. This market is as effortlessly fun and cool as Janice from Electric Mayhem, but with less trout pout and more lentil dip. "Fer sure!" Here are the highlights that you really don't want to miss! THE BREAD SITUATION: The artisanal rosemary sourdough loaf from One Love Bread is the stuff boy bands are made of. This bread is basically what happens if you roll Harry Styles in flour and water. It really deserves its own Manchester disco-dancing fan club, but for now I'll just sing its praises. DAIRY AND DAIRY ALTERNATIVES: I was totally NSYNC with this section. I'm not even sure what plants half of them came from, but they looked intriguing. Had I brought a cooler, my fridge would have undergone quite the calcium glow up! SODA ALTERNATIVES: This was the real Big Time Rush! We studied the sodas for a solid ten minutes like raccoons who'd discovered a vending machine. There are flavors and brands here I've never seen in the wild...some with names I can't pronounce (but absolutely bought)! The store was very clean and organized, and if the employees had been any friendlier, they'd have been covered in yellow feathers. In summary: great bread, fantastic selection, kind humans, and a soda aisle that deserves its own documentary. 5/5, will return. Probably for more bread. Definitely for more weird soda. Statler: "That was a long review!" Waldorf: "I wanted it to end five minutes ago! DOHOHOHO!" Ma Na Ma Nah.

Service 5/5: we did not make a reservation, but staff did everything to accommodate us and get us seated. I really appreciate how kind they were and once we were seated, our server was attentive, making sure our drinks were always filled and that we were enjoying our meal. Ambiance 5/5: stunning environment. I highly recommend you take a peek and look at the bar because it's a bunch of little pennies and it is the coolest sight to see (I believe I heard them call it the penny bar too). I really enjoy that you could see into the kitchen while the chefs worked and how fluid they all seemed to be in their craft. Food 3/5: I was really disappointed by the food. I ordered the roasted lamb as a big fan of lamb and it was overcooked and very salty. Also, the mint gelée coupled with the root beer glacé de viande was overwhelmingly sweet. The dish was lacking a balance of acid and spice. My fiancé ordered the tater tot hot dish and I am thankful that he ordered that because we ended up sharing that the rest of the meal. Even he could not eat the Lamb and he is must less picky about flavor profiles. The hotdish was a cheesy parmesan dream with sweet corn, peas, mushrooms and I liked the textural mixture of pork and veal. Overall, I'm not sure if I would come back for a meal here. I have seen that their pizzas are really popular because they are woodfired and I wish we would've checked that first, but I wanted a cozy elevated dinner and I'm still really bummed that we did not get that.

It happened to be a very busy weekend, and the Informalist was one of the few places that did not have a long line to get seated. Got in right away and seated for some brunch. The restaurant is spacious and well designed. It's a bit upscale, but perfectly capable of making people feel relaxed and welcome. We got greeted right away by the server and settled in with menus and waters. Our order wasn't complicated: some of the Custard Battered French Toast, a short stack of pancakes, and two eggs. I also ordered a London Fog Tea Latte (a little lavender, a little vanilla, and extra foam). It didn't take long for the food to come, but the London Fog took a while longer. The French Toast was amazingly good, and the pancakes and eggs were also very good. I was half done with my meal by the time my London Fog arrived, and the server was very apologetic (saying that the coffee shop was very busy). I might have been satisfied with that, but the London Fog was just okay. While there was some extra foam, the drink itself was flat, as if they just heated up the milk and mixed it with the tea. (They need to do a better job with polishing the steamed milk so that it creates a creamy texture, especially if they ar charging $8) Overall, a good experience, and a few tweaks would have made it excellent. Would stop again if I was in the mood for the French Toast.
