I went in to order a Greek salad since it's on the menu--turns out they don't have it. Then I tried ordering a gyro--nope, don't have that either. So I asked for a pizza. The server said all they have is pizza and pointed out one that says it comes with thyme. When I asked about it, she said she didn't know what it was. I told her, "It's on your menu," and she just said, "Oh no, don't have it." I even asked for the zaatar cheese pizza and she didn't know what that was either, then told me they don't have it.its in a strip mall not the best looking place but sometimes that's the best places well not here, ohhh and she had to call someone to give her my credit card number so I could pay. When I got out to the car I looked at my pizza and it had no sausage on it like it said it would on the menu I went in and asked she said sorry we don't have any. This is a hidden gem! It was recommended to me by a friend to try the pizza with a twist (Halal Pizza)...I was super impressed and the owner is just so amazing. Buckle up because this one is a wild ride. When I first realize exactly where I was going, I wasn't overly excited because it's not in an overly nice shopping center. I felt that pizza one night in Tempe Arizona. It wasn't hard though, because this pizza place was literally across the street from my hotel I could see it every night I was there during my stay in December 2022. And so, Pizza & Grill it was, after a long internal debate on what to have for dinner. There was a limited options here without having to take an Uber to get anywhere within a two block radius of my hotel here in this stretch of N. Scottsdale Rd. so, I decided to hit up the liquor store a few doors away and decided on the pizza here at the pizza and grill restaurant. The thing about this place is, that they do not really have A dining room to dine in. Best bet is to order ahead and take it to your hotel room or home, whichever is applicable to you. It just happened that I was directly across the street from the business and pizza seemed to be on the menu for me on a quiet Thursday evening before New Years 2022. The experience here was rather nice and unique. I didn't know what to expect but the guys behind the counter let me know their pizzas are awesome and they're delicious. I wanted a medium one but all of their sizes was large. They persuaded me to buy the large and split the pizza 2+ ways so I can experience the pizza more than just stuffing myself in one sitting. Not a bad idea, I thought. Quite an interesting proposition though, but I enjoyed the pizza in two sittings. No sense to gorge in one sitting. I used to back in the high school days but not anymore. With that said, the prices are we're typical of what you'd find anywhere in chain pizza restaurants, with a typical large running around $20 or so. Clearly, this place isn't a chain, so I was glad to help and support local. The overall experience here at Pizza and Grill restaurant was quite nice, positive, and quirky. It was interesting to see the owners / guys at the restaurant trying to convince me to get the loaded pizza of choice and helping me decide what's good and what's awesome on their menu. In the end, I walked out with a fresh large everything on it pizza and headed straight across the street back to my hotel with a bottle of vodka from the nearby liquor store. The pizza itself was good while watching TV in the hotel room. The restaurant itself was fairly small, but it has a lot of homespun vibe that makes me yearn to come back to Tempe when things get better with the world. For now, my take out pizza was as good as it can be. The guys behind the counter were nice people and helped me decide on what to get. Friendly service and quick, as pizza goes. Fresh and took only 20 minutes, so I just walked to the nearby liquor store for refreshments and to kill time waiting for my pizza. It was nice that after 8pm on a weekday evening, there's no line. If you love pizza and want your fix, consider coming to Pizza and Grill if you're in the Tempe area. Even if you are in the metro Phoenix area, come on down to Tempe and grab a pie and be happy with your self. Definitely recommended but would like to check out their gyros on my next trip here, if my travels permit me to do so. Pizza and Grill is located at 1255 N Scottsdale Road in the heart of Tempe, Arizona. It's right across the street from 2 hotel properties: Post 1429 and the Hampton Inn and Suites. They accept major credit cards, which is always awesome, as well as cash. In the age of Covid-19, best to wear your face mask when entering the store and placing your order. I believe they make you wait outside for your order to avoid congregating inside. Since they are located in a small shopping villa, they have plenty of parking options here, but come early to secure the best possible spot. If you use public transportation to get here, consider the routes you need to get here early enough to indulge on your favorite pizza or gyro. For me, the experience was good, fresh, And definitely helped me save a bit more money by splitting the pizza into two sittings, so I didn't need to find lunch options the next day. You can't find a better pizza parlor than Pizza and Grill on the heart of Tempe, Arizona. Get here and come often. This pizza here is ok. I got a large veggie pizza and it should probably be called the spicy pizza because it had jalapeños, banana peppers, and red peppers on it. Way too many olives, a small sprinkling of mushrooms around the edges, some red onion, and a bunch of cherry tomatoes. There were also shredded carrots which I thought was a weird topping for a pizza. I phoned in my order and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I show up 10 minutes later and the guy making the pizza said another 6-7 minutes because there were so many toppings. I was kind of worried because veggies cooked too long burn or dry out and sure enough, almost all of the veggies were burned or shriveled up into crispy flakes. If you're wondering what toppings they use for the pizzas, just go in and ask. They don't have an official website or anything and all of the online menus I looked at (even on Yelp) have different ingredient lists and prices. I wouldn't trust any pictures submitted by other people because each one had some kind of customization on it. My veggie pizza looked nothing like the others I've seen in pictures. I've been to pizza and grill a few times now. And there are always a few orders before and after us, but we were surprised that we've never had to wait more then 10 mins for our order to be served to us. The quality of the pizza and the ingredients are very good. And the best part is that the pizza is not greasy. Cooked perfectly every time with high quality ingredients. All wings and fried items get cooked in fresh new oil daily. The restaurant is very clean and has always gotten great ratings from the health department. There is a small area to dine in or you can take out. Over all, this has been our go to pizza spot. All the orders can be fully customized & all toppings are free! The owner is not tech savvy so there is no menu online but I'm posting pictures with the price and menu. The place is very clean And great health department ratings as well. I would suggest visit in person and try it, the area isn't the greatest after certain hours but that is not a reflection of the restaurant. I have been there with family many times. I come here every Wednesday evening for his pizza. His pizza is delicious. I truly don't think there's better pizza around. He uses all organic and high quality ingredients: the cheese is creamy, the tomato sauce is flavorful, the tomatoes are tender and flavorful, the pepperoni has a refreshing taste, and so on. I never leave reviews but I want to here because the man and his son are hard workers, they take good care of me and create a very nice environment when I dine in, and, of course, the pizza is outright delicious. This was not good. The pizza at Quick Trip was better!!! We ordered a medium cheese pizza for my son with special needs since he didn't like what we ordered for dinner. He's not very picky with pizza but I noticed he only ate about 1/2 the very small medium pizza. I wondered why he only ate half of every slice. He left all his crust. Then I tasted it. First, it got hard within an hour- almost as if it was microwaved then when I removed the cheese from a slice, the crust was completely flat. First off, it is VERY hard for me to write this harsh of a review. Out of 150+ Yelp Reviews, this is only my 2nd two star review, and I have never written a one star review. I saw all of the fantastic reviews from other Yelpers and that is what made our decision to eat here last week. Our meal was so below our expectations that I felt compelled to share our story. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were in an episode from the Twilight Zone. The place was completely EMPTY at 6:30 on a Friday night, which should have been our first sign to leave the restaurant and "watch a different episode" at another pizza place down the street. There were pictures all over the wall that SELF PROCLAIMED how great their pizza is... along with framed boxes from the products that they used. The "friendly" owner was not the same Hassan from the other reviews. He had been replaced by a pushy, overbearing man ala "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". He bragged so much about how great his pizza was that we wondered again, "Why is no one here at PRIME TIME on a Friday Night?" When we asked if he served pizza by the slice, he began ridiculing other places that sell by the slice, as "cheap". He began rattling off all of his meat dishes and seemed offended when we told him that we only wanted a plain cheese pizza. Finally we were able to get a word in and let him know that we were vegetarian. He then started pushing his veggie pizza. We reiterated that we only wanted a cheese pizza and he seemed quite put off by our "tasteless" request. When we came in, we just wanted a slice of pizza but were so oversold by the owner's ravings about the quality of his pizza that we ended up upgrading to an extra large pizza. This was an interesting special he does as a Friday special to buy a large pizza and get an "Extra Large" pizza for the same price. At $21.95, this was one of THE most expensive large CHEESE pizzas that I have ever ordered, so we had a feeling that this was going to be... SPECTACULAR. On a positive note, we loved the beautiful china plates that were arranged on the tables in this little restaurant. However, the Twilight Zone episode resumed when we were served plastic utensils in cellophane to accompany this fine looking table setting. Then we were graced with a paper plate of packets of red pepper and parmesan. The only salt and pepper to be found for this extra large pizza was the one packet that came with our cellophane wrapped utensils. Finally the masterpizza was completed and was served to us at our table. The cheese looked generously applied and we could not wait to finally TASTE the reviews we had read. And then... Rod Serling began to speak, "It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone." The pizza tasted worse than the frozen pizzas we used to make at the snack bar at our community pool, but we didn't care when we were kids... and those pizzas only cost a few bucks. The dough was very stale/frozen tasting and had zero crispiness to it. There was also very little sauce on the pizza and what was there did not seem to have much seasoning on it at all. The cheese was the best part, but it was not enough to make up for this disaster of a pizza. We politely used our plastic cutlery to saw away at our slice and finished what we had put on our plate. The fork and knife were so cheap that they were all warped and unusable after the first slice. This was good news as we were not going to be eating anymore of it that night. We boxed it up, paid our check and left our customary 20% tip. When we got home, I ended up making quite a few "Twilight Zone" induced trips to the restroom and then we promptly "cancelled the series" and threw the whole box in the trash. Maybe we came on an off night, but our experience was so unlike anything else that we read about, that we felt like we owed it to others to share our tale. Maybe try their other pizzas and dishes, but just stay the heck away from the old classic cheese pizza. read more
