They opened up as East End Pizza and Ice Cream in Wonder Lake and that is where we've had their food, which is wonderful!

So I decided to try it for lunch and am torn between 3-4 stars. I got the breaded veal diner/dinner type special, posted on the board behind the counter seating. $14. And it came with bean or cream of potato soup. The veal was not a whole piece of veal but a ground concoction that seemed like something from the grocery frozen food section. Not awful but not awesome. Then again this is a little diner so should I expect chef food? It is called Little Chef. Undecided. It was served hot and crisp which was good because the gravy and mashed taters were definitely overwhelming the texture and flavor of the meal. The gravy was ok but a little different taste than any gravy I've ever had. Definitely not homemade and was very strong flavored. I think if it had some beans or a small salad included with this would have been happier. I got hot tea which was a challenge as the water spilled all over from the tea pot and I was told to put my hand on the top to avoid that, but then your finger got a little bit of burn from the hot metal. The soup was good and I took it home. The service was fine, absolutely no issues there and since it wasn't too busy, as expected. I know everyone's prices everywhere have gone up, but I just can't justify what I paid for what I got. Again not sure what expectations should be in this economy or where to put the extra minus star for the state of restaurants and value, but this was just a bit under expectations.

It is cozy and inviting if you need to do a little work, lots of seating and a great spot to sit and enjoy food, snacks and coffee. We loved this spot so much we stopped each day for the 3 days we were in town. The first day, Mr. Bee ordered the Pecan Pie Latte a seasonal drink. Not a coffee drinker, it sounded delicious and I took a sip, then another and another. It tasted just like pecan pie and the coffee was actual quite good, it was smooth and not bitter. If I lived in town I think I could get used to drinking coffee it was that good. When I spotted a Pumpkin Chai, I jumped on it. I am a pumpkin junkie. I ordered this one iced. It was so good. The pumpkin blended seamlessly with the chai spices and it quickly became a favorite. Wish I could find them at home. The next morning we stopped in to grab drinks before heading out on a day trip. Mr. Bee went with a regular coffee which was again smooth and not bitter. Such a creature of habit when I find a favorite, I ordered the Pumpkin Chai, but this time hot. It was delicious. We grabbed a croissant to take with us, and it was crunchy and creamy on the inside. Happy Campers On our way out of town after checking out of our inn, we stopped once again. The staff was so nice and recognized us, got our drinks for us and told us to come back if in town again. Such a gem of a coffee, confection, pastry and food shop in town.

Absolutely lovely…read more Located on the Main Square of Woodstock, IL, this cafe serves breakfast and lunch in a warm, welcoming space. Our waitress tells us the business previously at this location got a make over when participating in a foodnetwork TV show. Sweet. The decor is earthy colors with wood on the walls, fun signs, comfortable booths and tables for groups. Highchairs are available for your tiny family members. A hostess will seat you with menus and flatware wrapped in a napkin. Salt, pepper, sugar, creamer, jelly, syrup, ketchup and hot sauces are on the table. One side of the menu is breakfast, the other lunch. We were asked right away if we would like coffee. The staff here are all very nice and welcoming. Different members of staff came around to all tables several times during our stay refilling coffees as needed. Our waitress checked in on us a couple of times and actually stopped at the table to be sure we had all we needed, not just running past. We both ordered breakfast and the portions are generous. I had the Irish Bene and they don't skimp on the smoked salmon! The eggs were poached well, a generous amount of spinach and the potato pancake is tasty and light. I very much enjoyed their coffee. Strong, hot and smooth. Not at all bitter. Yay. Two remodled, single-person restrooms are at the back of the restaurant where you'll also find hooks for your coat. A diaper station is in the ladies room. The restaurant has two window walls letting in the sun light. On-street parking is free. If we lived here this would be our breakfast place!

Love this diner, clean and pretty right next to the Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple. Thus, you can go…read moreto the temple and remind yourself that all suffering stems from desire and that we should have compassion for all life then walk half a block and work up a desire for sausage and biscuits thus negating the inner peace you just stepped into. It would be really fundamentally incorrect to describe their sausage and biscuits as Nirvana in the Buddhist sense, but the dish is very good and so is the coffee. Most tables have a good view of the town square featured in "Groundhog Day," and the diner is next door to a nice indie bookstore.
