The only thing that prevents it from getting 5 stars from me is the fact that some of their products can be much more expensive than other competitors like Walmart and Food Basics.

I love looking for in-store specials and marked down items, so I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much and they don't even have a clearance section, or at least I didn't see one. They also didn't have too many exotic products or things not available at other locations or not easily found at other grocery stores, except for some tortilla chips made from spent beer grains. It's a totally acceptable grocery store, but did not give off any "special vibes" for me, haha. This grocery store is located in a plaza. It's next to the Dollarama. Lots of free parking.

This particular location hold a place in my heart as it was my first official job: I would wake up at 3:30am on the weekends to head to work and bake bread! I would still enjoy some of my weekend with friends from high school, and I saved for University. The managers were really great about working the schedule to try and fit everyones needs. We were mostly students working in the bakery and each had our own extra curricular actives and requirements - somehow it all fit together quite nicely. A great place to shop, a nice place to work. The Long Version: The No Frills brand has a special place in my heart because growing up my mom regularly took me to No Frills and Valdi all the time (on Eglinton near Dufferin, in Toronto. The Valdi is long gone, but the No Frills is still there. Likely different ownership, but I'm not sure). Back then No Frills stores were a bit dark and dingy and really felt like a discount store, and their prices were quite lower than regular grocery stores, but these days most No Frills are big and bright, and their prices are just slightly less than regular grocery stores. They are still rather utilitarian looking so they are still true to their name of being without frills, but the discounts aren't really there as much as they were in the past. This specific location on Grant Carmen recently opened in 2024. It used to be a Your Independent Grocer. The location is a bit tucked away. There's lots of free parking but the layout is such that there are no parking spots close to the entrance, not even accessible parking. So something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues. This location is a bit hidden. It's technically in the same plaza as the Winners, Dollarama, Melanie Lyne and Value Village, but it's hidden around the back. Ottawa did not have a No Frills until 2024. Prior to 2024, the only No Frills around were in Orleans and Stittsville, and Arnprior, but then a few Your Independent Grocer locations converted to No Frills. Costco tends to sell bigger items, like larger jugs of Mr Clean cleanser than you can get elsewhere, and st a better price, and clothes at a better price - even name brands. I got a pair of jeans at $15!! They are even offering a couple of different designs of bathing suits, as people tend to go away to warm places at this time of year. All in all, this is a good Costco, and I will be back.
