Terror on Tillson Street is an annual Halloween event in the picturesque village of Romeo about an…read morehour north of Detroit. This event attracts thousands of visitors to the town to view the elaborate Halloween decorations by the residents of Romeo, but in particular, the homes on Tillson Street. Best of all, this is all free and the street is always open to the public, day or night. On the weekends before All Hallows' Eve, I recommend arriving shortly before sundown to beat the rush of people that descend onto Tillson Street at night. There is free municipal parking behind the shops on Main Street by the police station. Parking spots closest to Tillson Street typically go for $5. I found a spot in the municipal parking lot and strolled the various streets on my ten-minute walk to Tillson Street. There are other homes around town that go all out for Halloween besides Tillson Street, and I recommend checking them out too. I preferred arriving before sunset because it gave me extra time to see a few other streets and stroll Tillson Street before it became super packed. It also made my second walkthrough after sundown much faster. I hear that it's a madhouse on October 31st, but this is when kids can trick or treat on Tillson Street to collect candy. It all sounds fun but I don't think I'd want to deal with the crowds. The direction of the flow of foot traffic begins on Tillson and Main Streets where a popular Dairy Queen is located. After crossing the street at Tillson and Sisson, visitors will make their way back down Tilson toward Main Street. At the end of the walk, there will be cider and donuts available for a donation. However, if you turn the corner you may see a table set up by a local church giving away free donuts, cider, water, and hot chocolate. Not saying this will be available every year, but it's worth it to check before shelling out money for a drink and a snack. The decorations are amazing! Lots of special effects where you can see ghosts apparitions moving in the windows of the homes and even a few surprises like a skeleton popping out of a coffin. I loved the animated Halloween decorations including a dummy wearing an Ohio State Buckeyes shirt being electrocuted, skeletons dancing, and a witch holding a girl over a cauldron. The clown house was excellently creepy. All that is needed is for Pennywise to stick his head out of the sewer! Terror on Tillson Street really is a must-see Halloween attraction for anyone in the Detroit area in October. Even though the decorations are largely the same each year, I wouldn't mind making Tillson Street a Halloween tradition. The townspeople are friendly and the homes are so beautiful. Romeo really is a storybook Midwest town that is a beautiful place to visit in the autumn.

Children 10-12 are $5 and adults are $10. There are so many different animal enclosures. We saw cows, pigs, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, roosters, rabbits, and more. You can register for the auction of the livestock. They also have shows for different animals. We saw a bunch of horses with ribbons. We also went to a barn that had art items listed. The lady we spoke with said they have a toddlers and tots where kids can enter in may or june and get cute ribbons for their work. They also charge for adults to list but offer tickets with a listing. I thought this was pretty cool. There are tons of different merchants selling items and home goods. Tons of carnival rides and food stands as well. This place is massive with so much to see and do. Its definitely worth it.

This week they had Uncle Cracker performing on Monday, monster trucks on Tuesday, demolition Derby on Wednesday, figure 8 on Thursday, and I went to the rodeo on Friday. On Saturday they have tractor and truck pull and then on Sunday again they have a tractor and truck pull. Ticket prices are $10 for adults starting at age 13 and over and $5 for kids aged 10 to 12 years. Military and special needs get in the fair for free and seniors age 62 and over cost $9. Now those ticket prices include access to everything at the fairgrounds all the grandstand events, but you pay extra for the carnival rides, and they have different daily rates and arm bands that you can buy for the kids or adults if you still like to ride

As I sit back and think about my time at OPSD On Pointe school of dance, the only memories I have…read moreare negative. Well, I shouldn't say that. What I will say is my junior year of high school the dance studio I had been attending since I was younger closed, this was heartbreaking. However, I found hope in OPSD as it presumed to be a safe dance family. However, for me that is far from the truth, my junior year I came in excited that I was going to be joining this new dance family. My excitement quickly turned to disappointment. Fast forward a year, I am now a senior. There was this talk about a senior dance, where we would wear our caps and gowns and walk on stage and do a little performance. I was excited for this, it finally felt like they were accepting me into their "family"... I would ask when they were practicing, I would ask what I could do to help in anyway. I was left in the dark, nobody replied to me. Nobody answered my questions. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it wasn't happening anymore because why would somebody ignore me. However, recital came and there the seniors went on the stage to perform their senior dance, with me being the only senior left behind. This shattered my heart. Only my mom truly saw how hard this hit me; how unwelcome I felt. In this moment, she had asked the dance instructor why I had been left out of the senior dance as I was a senior. The dance instructor (and owner) looks at me and goes, Oh I thought (me) would be OK with it because "these seniors are my babies." I can confidently quote those five words because every once in a while I will think back on that memory, and these words will repeat in my head. She looks at me after saying these words and said well weren't you ? Let me ask you this; what would you say in that instance? To say the studio made me feel like dirt was an understatement. I have waited until now to post this because I felt like nobody would care, as the person who said those words to me clearly did not. But I am done not using my voice so this is my story.
