It's not like there are Russian puppet theatres in every city, so we had to go all the way to Detroit. I said yes, of course. This was back in 2009, some ten Detroit vacations ago. Honestly I'm really not that into puppets, even Russian ones, but I can attest that the show I saw was remarkable in its ability to captivate and soothe a house full of hyperactive children. This is a low-key spot, and they have sort of a puppet museum in the lobby. It really seems like the perfect place to bring kids. I had less luck paying attention from my seat, sandwiched between a four year old in front and his mother in back. "I GOT A EYE VIEW," the mother whispered through her teeth and at her child. "KEEP QUIET OR I'LL HIT YOU WITH MY STICK!" For the next 45 minutes, all I could think about was how I'd better behave.

We were shocked that real people were in the puppet show. We thought it would be ONLY puppets. We really liked the character Nino. He was so funny, like an "animal trapped in a boy body"! We haven't encountered any petty, gossiping, Dance Moms, like other studios we've been to. This place is great. They offer Theatre/Acting classes to young children, which is another reason we sought out this studio. All the teachers seem to know what they're doing, and how to handle children in all different age groups and activity levels. I would recommend this place to all!

It challenges you and helps you think quick on your feet. Must be able to handle extemporaneous changes in themes too. I also have a friend that participated in the Improv school / program and found it useful. Helped my friend come out of his shell more, not so much funnier in his delivery. You either have it or you don't. I found it amusing and very clear cut who among the troupe excelled at improv. Only a few tend to stand out each show. Kudos to all for their effort nonetheless, it's not easy to do in front of bunch of strangers.

To be fair, this place wasn't even on my radar until recently they were hosting a screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari complete with live musical accompaniment. If you have never seen a silent movie presented with live accompaniment, I highly recommend you keep your eyes open and jump at any chance you get. Well, this little theater was absolutely darling! From the concession stand, that included Michigan booze, Michigan candy, and some serious hot dogs compete with sauteed onions and peppers, to the gorgeous light fixtures, and even the charming bathrooms that could have been pulled right out of a bed and breakfast magazine. The staff was friendly. Street parking was easy to find. Admission was reasonable. Acoustics were good. Seating was comfortable. Downtown Pontiac seems to be a bit of a work in progress. The theater was what drew us there. I'll certainly be on the lookout for more events in the venue. Methinks the place probably isn't on your radar, but it should be. Check it out. Make the drive. The play was Steel Magnolia's. This story was rolled out and brought out all the emotions that we have-at different times during the play. My nephew was actually the one that told me about the play and when I found out he was interested in going I thought it would be a great opportunity for both of us! There were small breaks between Acts and an intermission halfway through the production. Cookies, water and other small items were available for purchase. Any food and beverage had to be ingested up where it was sold so as to preserve the beauty of the auditorium. I wondered how they were going to do "Steel Magnolia's" as I saw the movie years ago and knew the sad outcome. The way they modified the play encompassed the spirit of the situation without having a death bed scene. I found myself crying anyway. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the production and we have every intention of returning in the near future! "Bravo", "Encore".. Hartland City Players- thank you for such an enjoyable evening!!
