I know this Yelp post is for Erie Construction in PA and I am in West Springfield, Massachusetts,…read morewhere the CT Erie Construction office covers, but I'm presuming with this being a huge nationwide company their sales practices are pretty standard. Erie had door to door neighborhood canvassers. Agreed to do a roofing estimate. Scheduled for following day. Reps were low pressure, thorough and informative. Fiberglass shingle roofing system for a 1965 cape. Take off the old roof down to the wood. They use IKO Dynasty HD fiberglass shingles supposedly made to Erie's specs and covered under Erie's own guarantee. Unfortunately their estimate was sky-high. They did two counter-offers, for three offers total. They were still the highest by several thousand dollars I've received out of many comparable estimates by other local contractors. Matter of economics. I can't pay what they quoted and I was quite blunt about that. They did not win my project. April 26, 2018 Erie called me asking to set up an in person appointment with the regional manager so he can meet with me and give me a better price. I said the reps that met with me earlier this week had the opportunity to give me a better price but they couldn't, so why spend more of my time meeting with a manager? I feel like I'm getting yanked around by a big home improvement company that can't make up its mind what to do with me. Plus the reps should have given the home-office my project's specs and if the regional manager wants to counter offer, they can e-mail me a new quote. I don't see any reason to have to meet again with no guarantee being able to settle on a price I can afford. Their quote started at $17,520 and we parted ways at $15,279. At $15,279, they are the most expensive I've received from local contractors....a low of around $8,000 and now the high of $15,279. Of course I got the typical sales pitch that if I go with another company I may encounter all sorts of problems and an inferior product. I was told they don't do e-mail quotes, only in person and they like in person so they can discuss financing and answer project questions. I said I know my project quite well and have no questions and if he wants to stop by and take a look on his own, go for it, but I see no reason for another in-person visit just to get a lower price, they can leave it in my mailbox or e-mail me. I was told it doesn't happen like that. Okay, strike 2 for Erie. We're not meeting and my hunt for a roofing contractor continues.

As a new customer a few years back, we were treated like gold. Fast forward to April 2025 when a large tree fell on our house after a storm and it was nothing but an ongoing fight to get this company to help. First, my point of contact quit shortly after the incident and it took me almost two weeks to figure out who to talk to. The people in the office are useless, as I was told at one point that "it's not so and so's job". Since there was water coming into my bedroom through the ceiling fan, I was able to get a human to tarp my roof. After that, it took me 3 MONTHS of nagging, calling, begging, pleading, etc. for them to follow through. Mind you, there was a hole in my roof and BLACK MOLD growing in my ceiling. The communication was horrible and inconsistent and excuses never ending (I had to do inventory, oh we can't do that, I have to see, etc.). The consumer is screwed with this company, as your warranty will be void if you let anyone else touch it. Their priority is new projects and making that money. Don't count on them to treat an actual emergent situation as a priority because there's no money in that. RUN, RUN, RUN!!!!!!
